When this craving struck, I passed by the Big Boy restaurant in Dazaifu City, and saw a banner for their "Locally Sourced Salad Bar"! I just had to go in!! I was worried about their survival as they seemed to be struggling with attracting customers due to the pandemic. They seem to have made a bold decision to focus on quality vegetables. I admire their courage. I ordered the hand-kneaded ground beef hamburger from the lunch menu. It was 140g with onion sauce (1089 yen). While waiting for the food, I headed to the salad bar. They had a good variety, just like before. The curry rice had garlic rice as an option besides white rice. They also had beef consomme and corn soup. The hamburger arrived in about 5 minutes. It was juicy and tender, but lacked flavor without any sauce. The curry was okay with added spices. However, the salad was disappointing. The shredded cabbage was soggy, lettuce lacked freshness, and the pineapple was not sweet. The cut tomatoes were tasteless and mushy. I usually give chain restaurants and buffet places high ratings, but this time it's difficult. They advertised "locally sourced" but the quality seems to have dropped. I think they need to make some changes to survive. Maybe switch one soup to miso soup and offer chicken rice as a second option instead of the current menu. Customers might appreciate that more.

On the way back from Tosu Outlet, I had some ups and downs such as finding out that the store I was looking for had closed, or taking the wrong turn. But on the way back, I ended up here on the opposite side of the road. After much deliberation, I decided on the strategy of Handmade Burger and Triple Grill with Salad Bar for 980 yen plus 300 yen, and the Big Barrel Burger & Direct Fire Chicken with Salad Bar & Rice for 1130 yen plus 400 yen. I also ordered the Tomato and Spinach Oven-baked Omelette for 290 yen. The Salad Bar was quite busy! I think I prefer the Handmade Burger over the Big Barrel Burger. The Big Barrel Burger was meaty and delicious, but it felt like a high-quality sausage to me. The Salad Bar was like a battlefield! Thanks for the meal! As a side note, towards the end, when I got a bit carried away and tried to eat some cold pasta, I was sternly scolded. The waiter seemed confused and flustered by the anger. I felt somewhat sorry about it.

I don't usually feel like going to chain family restaurants, but I decided to give Big Boy a try after a long time, and I was satisfied! I had the hamburger and cream croquette lunch set, and my friend ordered the signature barrel hamburger. The barrel hamburger was definitely tastier, with a mini plate for reheating included. The salad with potato salad and edamame was satisfying. I wanted to go for seconds since it was all-you-can-eat, but I was too full! I got a half-and-half of garlic rice and regular rice, and the garlic rice was surprisingly delicious. The curry was also tasty compared to other all-you-can-eat options. I chose the cream croquette for a reason, and it didn't disappoint. Overall, I was satisfied and would definitely come back!

"I really want to eat salad until I say I'm sick of it," I thought, and the first thing that came to mind was the salad bar at 'COWBOY Kazoku' in Kasuga City. When I checked the opening hours on my smartphone, I found out that it's closing at the end of February! And I'm still not over the shock of the closure of 'Big Boy Futamata Store.' With a heavy heart, I headed to the Dazaifu City branch of 'Big Boy.' I ordered the Direct Fire Grilled Chicken & Crab Croquette lunch set (680 yen) with all-you-can-eat soup, curry, and rice, and of course, I added the salad bar (220 yen) as well. The dishes arrived in about 10 minutes, but the chicken was lacking in flavor. However, the crab croquette was quite delicious. It seems that 'Big Boy' stores are closing one after another nationwide due to the effects of the pandemic. It's rare to find a place where you can eat unlimited vegetables for under 1000 yen, so I hope this place can somehow hang in there."

I came to Big Boy Dazaifu store in Mukasano, Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. I visited the store around noon on a weekday and there were 8 customers already there. There were two young female staff members on the floor who seated me at a table and gave me the menu options: - Daily Value Lunch for 599 yen (excluding tax) - Daily Special Lunch for 799 yen (excluding tax) I decided to go for the Special Lunch, which on Mondays consisted of a hamburger, spring roll, and teriyaki chicken. I placed my order and then served myself rice with curry sauce and Fukujin pickles. I also decided to have some corn soup. While waiting for my meal, I tried the curry. It was slightly sweet and lacked spiciness, so I added some extra spice. The curry had very few vegetables in it, almost none at all. The corn soup was very thin and lacked flavor, so I didn't ask for seconds. When the food was served, I found the hamburger to be dry and lacking in flavor, and the spring roll seemed like a frozen one that was just fried. The teriyaki chicken, on the other hand, was tender and flavorful, and I appreciated the taste. The dish also came with potato fries, broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers. This restaurant is suitable for those who enjoy curry and can eat a lot without worrying about others watching. The total cost of my lunch, including tax, was 862 yen, a bit over my budget, but if I had used the salad bar, it would have been over 1000 yen, so I ignored it. The rice quality was good, at a level of 3.1. Four more customers arrived while I was there.

Big Boy is a family restaurant that has incorporated salad bars and soup bars from the beginning. When I first came to Fukuoka, my wife loved the hot stone cooking, so it became one of our choices when we wanted to eat hamburgers. When I visited this branch before, it seemed like the salad bar was not included with the hamburger menu. But now, when you order items like hamburgers, the salad bar comes with it. I ordered the salad bar for 733 yen, and my friend ordered the Ootawara hamburger with the salad bar for 1048 yen. The salad bar is great, and having dessert is a nice touch. Years ago, I decided that if I wanted to eat a hamburger, this was the place to go. But then, that branch closed down and I didn't have the chance to go. Finally, I was able to visit this branch. I was wondering what to order when I noticed they had a salad bar! I love the salad bar more than meat. So, I ordered just the salad bar, while my friend ordered the Ootawara hamburger with rice and soup bar. The salad bar was impressive, with egg salad and even fruit jelly for dessert. I tried my friend's hamburger and it was so juicy and delicious. Even though I don't usually eat much meat, I was fully satisfied here. I'll definitely be back again.

I used a discount coupon that came with a newspaper insert to have lunch. I went on a Saturday, and even on Saturdays, they had a very reasonable lunch menu. For about 600 yen, I had a hamburger with soup and rice or bread. The main dish on Saturdays was a combination of hamburger and fried chicken, and the hamburger tasted like it was homemade, allowing me to truly savor the flavor of the meat. Usually, the hamburgers you get at family restaurants feel like they were made in a factory and just reheated in the restaurant, but this one felt like it was made from scratch in the restaurant.
