I visited for dinner. I was on a business trip to Yakumo Town. It's been about 2 years and 5 months since I last visited. I haven't used the dining room in a while. This time, I ordered "Katsu Curry." When it comes to curry, I think of katsu. The katsu was big and crispy, freshly made and delicious. Even though it had been a while, I was really happy that the staff remembered me! I would like to come back to eat again. Thank you for the meal!

On January 12, 2023, I visited this restaurant for the first time. The parking lot in front and beside the store can accommodate around 10 cars. There also seems to be accommodation facilities at the back. The interior of the restaurant is surprisingly spacious, with four table seats and a raised seating area. Although I considered ordering the Niwaka Curry, I played it safe and went with the Tempura Donburi. The tempura included shrimp, white fish, eggplant, green pepper, shiitake mushrooms, and pumpkin - quite a variety. The tempura was crispy and the dipping sauce was delicious. The portion size was generous, and I left feeling satisfied.

It's mostly local customers. There are interesting curry dishes, but I came for the pork cutlet bowl. It was sweeter than before, but still delicious. The portion size was generous. I'm sorry, but I couldn't finish the rice. The regular customers were ordering soba noodles.

Father's ashes were scattered in Otobe-cho, and our family of 13 headed towards the temple, stopping in Yakumo for lunch. With such a large group, everyone had different preferences for what they wanted to eat. It was hard to decide where to go, but then my sister messaged me saying she was at a diner near the station. The place was called Marumi Diner and Inn, specializing in fresh soba noodles. They offered a variety of dishes like soba, udon, ramen, curry, and set meals. The diner had a great selection of food. My eldest son had a huge katsudon, struggling to finish the large portion of rice. My wife had a tempura rice bowl set, with a generous amount of tempura and rice. The portion was so big that it required a lot of effort to finish. My second son ordered curry rice, which had plenty of minced meat in a flavorful curry sauce. It was a delicious curry that even children would enjoy. I had the mori soba, which came in a large portion like at other restaurants. The soba noodles were surprisingly fragrant and had a hint of sweetness, thanks to being freshly ground. It was a tasty meal. Overall, the dishes at Marumi Diner and Inn were all quite filling, so it's best to share to avoid overeating. The address is 125 Honcho, Yakumo-cho, Hokkaido, and the phone number is 0137-62-2734. They are open from 11:00 to 20:30, with irregular holidays and closed during the New Year period.

When visiting Yakumo Town to see the woodcarving bear museum, I used this cafeteria. It was located right in front of JR Yakumo Station and had a typical appearance that could be found in any town. However, upon entering the shop, I was surprised to find that it had a depth that couldn't be imagined from the outside, with customers at every table. I ordered the pork cutlet bowl and cold soba set, which cost around 1200 yen. The pork cutlet was a bit tough, but the runny egg and crispy coating paired perfectly, making it very delicious. On the other hand, the soba was not hand-made, and the balance with the dipping sauce was not quite right. It didn't meet my expectations. However, the set menu had a generous portion size, so I would recommend it for those with a big appetite!

This is a cafeteria located just to the left as you exit JR Yakumo Station. They also run a guesthouse. The interior is surprisingly spacious. I ordered the Ni-kai curry special and the chicken cutlet set. By the way, "Ni-kai" refers to the time when Yakumo Town changed its district name from Yamakoshi District to Ni-kai District due to the merger of towns between the Japan Sea and the Pacific Ocean during the Heisei era. While waiting, more customers came in. There are various menu options that make you want to come back again. When the menu arrived, I was surprised by the generous portions. I have a feeling that I might end up eating my wife's chicken cutlet. The staff members eat heartily. The curry comes with regular curry sauce and white curry. The amount of sauce is surprisingly large. I need to eat quickly. My wife is dipping her chicken cutlet into her curry sauce. That's another way to enjoy it. I'll definitely come back to try their soba next time.

Marumi Shokudo, located about a 5-second walk from Yakumo Station, was revisited after several years. The restaurant is quite spacious, perhaps because they also run a guesthouse. I tried the local B-grade gourmet dish of Yakumo, the Ni-kai Curry. I was a bit disappointed to find out that it didn't include octopus tempura, and instead had scallop fry and scallop meat as the main ingredients. The curry was on the spicier side.

This time, I stayed at the hotel again. If I have the chance to come during the day, I would like to enjoy lunch at the dining room. This week, I stayed for 4 nights. The photos are only for 2 nights. If I stay here every week, I will run out of things to write about. Thank you for the meal.

I stayed here for a business trip again, this time for 3 nights. I'll post the photos together, but I can only find photos for 2 nights. The dinner at the inn was delicious and I recommend it! The portion was a bit too much, so it was hard to finish it all. I would like to stay here again. Thank you for the meal! 🍽️

I stayed here for a business trip again. This inn only has 5 rooms, so you need to make a reservation early or you won't be able to stay. The meals are generous and it's a popular inn. The main dishes are tempura and fried foods. This week, they even served sushi! Having sushi for dinner is a luxury! I would like to stay here again. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I went on a business trip to the Yakumo area and stayed overnight again. The food here is plentiful and good. The portions are large and I feel like I might gain weight (lol). There are many types of side dishes and the rice is also served in large portions. The rooms are also equipped with air conditioning. Even on hot days, you can spend comfortably! I have combined photos from 4 days because it would be difficult to do it for just one day (・_・; Lately, I have been staying here often, so next time I would like to come to the dining hall to eat. Thank you for the meal٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

I run a cafeteria and a guesthouse. This was my first time staying at the guesthouse. I heard that the food was good, so I was looking forward to it. The guesthouse only has 5 rooms, so it seems like early reservations are necessary! I stayed for 2 nights, so I have included all the photos together. The dinner, bento lunch, and breakfast all had generous portions. I was happy with the variety of side dishes, but the portions were a bit too much. I would like to come back to stay again. Thank you for the delicious meal! ♫

A popular diner in Yakumo-cho, Hokkaido. It seems to have been loved by the locals for a long time, right in front of the station. It has a nice atmosphere. Inside the restaurant, there are many displays of the famous Hokkaido specialty, bear figurines. It's more like an art exhibition than just folk crafts or souvenirs. A wonderful collection. I'd like to take a closer look at it sometime. As for the food, there are so many options to choose from, but I decided to try the mysterious parent and child soba. Despite its mysterious name, well, you can guess what it is. After a short wait, it arrived, just as expected. It's soba with a parent and child rice bowl on top. The portion is quite large. I'm glad I didn't order extra large. The first sip of the broth was delicious. The soba noodles are slightly greenish and slightly thick. They have a good texture and chewiness, different from what I usually eat. The chicken pieces are bite-sized, and although there's a lot, they don't have much flavor. As I continued eating, I found the overall dish to be bland and monotonous, so I got tired of it. It seems that I don't have a good compatibility with the typical Hokkaido flavor. I should have ordered soba as soba and parent and child rice bowl as parent and child rice bowl. Lesson learned.

Tonight's dinner was at Marumi Shokudo in Yakumo-cho. I had the sashimi set meal which included salmon, tuna, octopus head, and five large sweet shrimp. The fried chicken came with curry powder on the side. Also, my partner had the Nika Special Curry.

Marumi Shokudo (Yakumo Town) [Hokkaido Rally 14/15: Futami Curry] Curry #511 out of 376, 2019.10.25 I arrived at Marumi Shokudo in Yakumo Town in Hokkaido. Before that, I visited Setana Town, which is about 50km away. I passed through the mountains in southern Hokkaido, moving from a town on the coast of the Sea of Japan to the coast of the Uchiura Bay on the Pacific side. By late October, the autumn leaves in the mountains were already turning a burnt brown color, but they were still incredibly beautiful. I often stopped the car along the way to enjoy the autumn scenery. I arrived at Marumi Shokudo in front of JR Yakumo Station. A soba restaurant named Yakumo proudly displayed a cute sign. Yakumo Town is said to be the only town facing both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan, hence the menu item named Futami (meaning two seas). There seem to be various local specialties in the area with the word "Futami" in their names. There is even a menu item called Futami Yaki Set on the menu at this restaurant. It's what they call White Curry, and it is quite white. Upon tasting it, you can tell that it uses a lot of coriander from the flavor and aroma. Most likely, about 60-70% of the spices used are coriander powder. It paired well with the plentiful scallop-infused fish broth, and I enjoyed the lingering aftertaste. Although there were many scallop fries served, when you eat the curry, you'll find plenty of scallops in the curry sauce as well, making it a truly scallop-filled curry. I enjoyed the abundance of scallops in Yakumo Town. Got the stamp! Happy ending! #MarumiShokudo #YakumoTown #FutamiCurry #CurryIslandHokkaido #GoggleMask

I visited Marumi Shokudo in front of JR Yakumo Station. It seems to be an established restaurant founded in the Showa era. They offer a wide variety of menu items such as soba, rice bowls, set meals, and more. This time, I tried the local specialty dish called Futami Curry. Yakumo Town is the only administrative district in Japan facing both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan, and this curry was created using scallops from Yakumo and octopus from Kumaishi. The white curry made with Yakumo milk surprisingly has a spicy kick from the chili peppers. I hope this dish becomes more popular.

Revisited the town of Yakumo where I lived for about 3 years. I didn't know about "Tabelog" back then, so I didn't review the familiar shops, but there were many. I have a personal connection to this town and visit once a year. This time, after a long time, I visited Marumi Shokudo, a typical eatery in front of the station. In addition to the eatery, they also often hold banquets at the inn or on the second floor. Currently, it is run by the second generation, with the son of the third generation and the wife of the second generation in the kitchen. Unfortunately, I couldn't meet the second generation owner. Due to the merger of Yakumo Town and Kumasu Town, which now have access to two seas, it has become "Nikai District." As part of the local B-grade gourmet, they adopted "Nikai Curry" from a town-wide solicitation. Let's try it once. "Nikai Curry Special" for 1,500 yen. Yakumo is the birthplace of dairy farming, related to the founding of Snow Brand. So, is it made with "milk"? It features Yakumo's special products: scallops, milk, and Yakumo pork. The curry has a mild spice flavor, nothing special. It's part of the town's revitalization efforts. "Morisoba" for 600 yen. Machine-made homemade noodles. It's the town's soba, and surprisingly not bad. The second-generation owner's carefully made spicy broth is also good. The first generation's soba had low ratings from the townspeople, but the second generation's is well-received. Marumi Shokudo is loved by the people of Yakumo. If you go to this eatery, you can also see Shibasaki's masterpiece "Wooden Bears." Keep up the good work in front of the station.
