I had breakfast at a park in Nakasu, Katsura (Togetsukyo Bridge) with ham rolls from Maruki Bakery, then headed to the nearest police box. I realized my driver's license was missing from my phone, so I called places I had been to with no luck. I ended up filing a lost item report at the police box, then visited Tenryu-ji Temple. Later, I found my license at home. I continued walking towards the bamboo forest and Okusaga. It was so hot that I got thirsty. I saw a shop with a sign for "Summer Tangerine Squash" from the famous store "Ryomatsu." It was reasonably priced (I think it was 350 yen), so I went in and ordered. I can't remember the details, but the citrus flavor was refreshing, combined with the carbonation, it was delightful. After using the restroom, I felt refreshed and headed to my destination.

We shared the Hotokebimo (bracken-starch dumpling) and grapefruit jelly, and enjoyed it (⭐️4). The service from the part-time staff was unexpectedly poor, but there was an apology and it seems like the staff are well-trained at the store (⭐️2). The prices are somewhat high, but we were seated without waiting (⭐️3). I would like to visit this restaurant again, next time to try the tea and traditional Japanese sweets set.

Around 12:30, I was feeling tired from walking and wanted to take a break, but there were about 5 people waiting in line at the cafe, so I decided to just buy some souvenirs instead. The staff took my order right away and I was able to make my purchase smoothly. They had individual grapefruit-flavored agar jelly for sale. The texture was smooth and delicious. If you're sharing with 4 people, one is enough, but if you want to have two servings, it's better to buy 2 pieces.

I visited the restaurant at 12 o'clock on Saturday, based on information from a reviewer that it was surprisingly not crowded despite being in Arashiyama. I wrote my name at the entrance and waited for about 5 minutes before being seated at a large table in front of a hanging scroll. I learned that the Winter Citrus Jelly is made from grapefruit, while the Summer Citrus Jelly is made from summer oranges. The Summer Citrus Jelly is available until early July, after which they switch to the Winter Citrus Jelly. The jelly was refreshing with a slightly bitter taste, perfect for adults. I would like to visit the main store in Kamishichiken next time, maybe during the Summer Citrus Jelly season.

It was so delicious! I had freshly made warabi mochi at this restaurant for the first time, and it was so fluffy, gooey, and jiggly that it just melted in my mouth. They make it after you order it, so it's slightly warm and that's also delicious, and it's still tasty even after they chill it with ice. It was so hot, so I also got some shaved ice. The summer orange flavor was refreshing and fluffy, and it was delicious.

On Wednesday at 9:15, I entered the Osamu Arashiyama store. When I entered, the cafe was still being prepared. I asked, "What time does the cafe open?" and was told, "It will open soon, please wait a moment." After a short while, I was shown to a seat of my choice. The summer orange sweet red bean soup was served shortly after. It's wonderful to be able to feel the summer atmosphere through sweets. I was able to take great photos from the window-side seat in the store. Later, a few groups of students on a school trip came in, so it was a brief moment of tranquility. Thank you for the meal.

During my trip to Arashiyama, I had an amazing experience at Oimatsu where I tried their grapefruit flavored shaved ice. It was like a refreshing symphony in my mouth. The fluffy ice melts in your mouth, spreading the flavor of grapefruit. The perfect balance of tartness and sweetness instantly cools you down from the summer heat. Oimatsu's shaved ice is an essential delicious treat in this area. Be sure to try it when you visit Arashiyama!

I went to Arashiyama after a long time. Even though it was a weekday, there were a lot of foreigners and school trip students. It was a hot day and I didn't want to line up for lunch, so I remembered this summer orange confectionery. The take-out summer orange squash was also tempting, but I wanted to stay away from the crowd so I opted to dine in! Unlike outside, the inside of the store had a calm atmosphere and I was able to relax. On a hot day, the slightly bitter summer orange snack was perfect.

Wagashi shop famous for warabi mochi and sweet citrus jelly. As of May 2023, it has a rating of 3.56 and is a popular spot, yet surprisingly empty during the peak Golden Week period, making it a hidden gem. It's a relaxing place to visit and highly recommended! On a holiday at around 2 pm, there was only one other group of customers. Last year, during the height of the pandemic, it was too crowded to enter. This time, I thought it would be impossible to get in due to the overwhelming crowds in Arashiyama, but it was empty (*´ω`*). About 70% of the people in Arashiyama seemed to be foreign tourists, while at this shop, Oimatsu, it was mostly Japanese customers. Maybe foreign visitors find traditional Japanese sweets intimidating?

Summer Citrus Jelly ¥850
Warabi Mochi ¥1300
*Prices exclude tax
The difference between summer citrus and late citrus jelly might exist, but the prices have increased significantly... When I visited in 2021, it was ¥715. Despite that, they are still delicious (*´ω`*). Both have a refreshing and natural sweetness that I really enjoy. Whenever I come to Arashiyama, I can't help but remember these flavors and stop by... I usually only write up to 3 reviews for one place, but I wanted to make an exception this time to convey how much of a hidden gem this place is. I apologize if it seems suspicious, but I am not a shill (^_^;) If you're in a bind in the crowded Arashiyama area, this is the place to go! Thank you for the meal (*´ω`*)

I ordered a summer orange squash for takeout. The staff made it right in front of me, and just watching them make it made me feel cooler. The syrup had a strong fruit flavor and was very delicious. It was so refreshing that it made me forget about the humid heat for a moment. It cost 350 yen.

I visited around 1:30 pm and was seated right away without having to wait in line. I recommend choosing the timing of your visit as this place is quite popular. The Summer Orange Jelly was served on a cool plate, with a taste that was a mix of sweet like mandarin and bitter like grapefruit, refreshing and perfect for summer. The Warabi Mochi was incredibly delicious and had a unique texture that was soft and stretchy, which was perfect for my tired body. I had never tried such delicious Warabi Mochi before, only the ones sold in supermarkets, so I now understand why this place is so popular. I wish there was a bit more kinako (roasted soybean flour) though.

This is a highly rated sweets shop in Arashiyama for tourists. The store has a historical feel to it. I didn't have time to sit down and have tea inside, so I bought popular sweets as souvenirs. I chose a high-quality sweet made with firm red bean paste. It has a stronger sweetness compared to monaka, and goes well with slightly strong tea.

I visited this place looking for traditional Japanese sweets while strolling around Arashiyama. I tried the Kuri Zenzai (with roasted green tea) for 1100 yen and Matcha with a Uguisu Mochi (a type of sweet) for 1155 yen. The red beans in the sweet red bean soup weren't too sweet, so I was able to enjoy it without feeling too heavy afterwards. The salted kelp was a nice touch. The matcha was said to have a mild and easy-to-drink flavor.

I went to this restaurant based on the recommendation of the rickshaw driver. The food was incredibly delicious and I was moved by the experience. It was a new sensation for me. The noodles were light and slippery, and I finished them in no time. The garden view from inside the restaurant had a Kyoto-like atmosphere, which was nice. I would love to go back to eat there again next time I visit Arashiyama.

Stable Old Pine is a nice place in Kamishichiken where you can eat in. I had a set of matcha and sweets, which were both delicious. The sweets here never disappoint and the matcha is perfect. The shop faces the main street of Arashiyama but is away from the crowds. If you're in Arashiyama and craving Kyoto sweets, this place might be a good choice.

I found a traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Arashiyama, Kyoto that serves delicious matcha green tea. It was a cold and rainy day, so I decided to take out some amazake (sweet fermented rice drink) and went for a walk in the bamboo grove. The hot amazake was just the right amount of sweetness and warmed me up on the chilly day. It didn't have a strong alcohol taste, so it would be suitable for children as well.

When I come to Arashiyama, I always order the authentic warabi mochi at this nighttime restaurant. This was my first time visiting during the autumn foliage season, and we were able to get a seat right away in the evening. The seating was limited to 30 minutes, which was fine for us as we enjoyed our warabi mochi and then left promptly. However, others may have wanted more time. We also bought the limited edition chestnut puree to enjoy at home, and it was delicious. I will definitely come back to buy more from Roshoan during this season.
