I usually review ramen, but occasionally I review Hokkaido's gourmet food. This time, I will introduce the popular former Kentucky Farm in Yakumo Town, "Harvester Yakumo".=================================I was driving from Sapporo to Hakodate for a business trip, taking the local route using National Route 230 for the first time in decades. After stopping at Agemomo at Nakayama Pass for a break (refer to previous log), I continued driving on the autumn sunny road. It was a comfortable drive while overlooking Lake Toya for the first time in a long time, and I got on the highway from Toyoura IC, heading towards the next destination. I arrived at Yakumo PA after 3 pm. The next destination, "Harvester Yakumo", is directly connected to this parking area overlooking Mt. Funaboshi. The restaurant is located in Hamamatsu, Yakumo Town. I parked at the PA and walked along the promenade towards the restaurant. It's interesting to head to the restaurant on the highway. As I walked leisurely, enjoying the peaceful rural scenery, I spotted a large brick building that resembles a foreign mansion. "Harvester Yakumo" is the birthplace of domestic herb chicken and was established in 1988 as an experimental farm for Kentucky Fried Chicken. It used to be called "Kentucky Farm" but became independent in 2002 and started its own restaurant operation. "Harvester Yakumo" was founded with the wish to provide their own carefully raised materials in Japan, inspired by Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, who carefully raised chickens and vegetables in the backyard farm of a restaurant in Kentucky. The building itself is like a foreign mansion, making you feel as if you've come to the countryside in Kentucky. Yakumo Town, which is similar to Kentucky in the United States, was developed by Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the former lord of Owari Domain, known as the Tokugawa town. On the other hand, the first domestic store of Kentucky Fried Chicken was in Nagoya, so there is a mysterious connection. The menu includes popular fried chicken, grilled chicken, ethnic chicken, pizza, curry, hamburger, omelet rice, spaghetti, and a variety of other dishes. Today, I ordered Fried Chicken for 295 yen, Margherita Pizza for 1,650 yen, Onion Rings for 220 yen, and a Drink Bar for 410 yen. The total was 2,575 yen. The weather was nice, so I enjoyed my meal on the terrace. The terrace provides a space where pets are allowed, which is also great for dog owners. Soon, the dishes were ready. So, let's dig in! First, the chicken. Delicious! The chicken made with herb chicken, known as "too delicious Kentucky," is juicy and overflowing with meat juice. The "herb chicken" used here is named because it is raised free-range on a vast site and fed with herbs cultivated on the farm. This healthy and fresh chicken makes the fried chicken even more delicious. Next, I tried the pizza. It's chewy and delicious too. They use locally harvested ingredients and bake them in a stone oven in the restaurant, aiming to be a pioneer of Japanese pizza. The onion rings were crispy as well. I finished my meal while feeling the refreshing breeze of Hokkaido. Fried chicken and pizza from Kentucky, the birthplace of Kentucky, are really delicious. I have visited Yakumo PA many times, but I was surprised to find such a wonderful restaurant hidden behind the PA. There are still many delicious restaurants in Hokkaido that I don't know about. The taste, ingredients, scenery, and air were all top-notch. It's a restaurant where you can fully enjoy Hokkaido. I'll definitely visit again next time on a private trip. Kentucky surpassed Kentucky, it was delicious. Thank you for the meal♪ (Visited on September 8, 2022) (Posted on April 26, 2023)
