I wonder what the curry at Matsuya tastes like. I've been wanting to try it, and surprisingly, the day I wanted to eat curry came sooner than expected. The store in front of Kokura Station is self-service with only counter seats. You order from a ticket machine, and your order is automatically sent to the kitchen. When your order is ready, they call your number and you pick it up, similar to a food court system. There is hand sanitizer and movable acrylic panels at the entrance. They serve miso soup with the curry, which is quite assertive. The curry sauce is thicker than I expected, with chunks of beef scattered throughout. The texture is not minced meat, but rather chunks of meat. The curry has a balance of sweetness, spiciness, and acidity, with each flavor vying for dominance. The spiciness is not as strong as I feared, so it should be easy to eat for most people. The rice is slightly yellow and dry, which makes me wonder if it's the same at all times and stores. I went there in the morning around 9 am. It's not too spicy for me, but I would have preferred a bit more acidity. Overall, it's a pretty authentic curry for a beef bowl chain! It's not my favorite type, but it's also not my least favorite. I also unexpectedly fell in love with Matsuya's raw vegetable salad. Due to the disruption in my eating habits during the COVID-19 lockdown, my weight, which had dropped significantly, has returned to normal. So, from now on, I won't be too concerned about calories and will eat what I want at that moment! The salad at this store is thin and crunchy, with large corn kernels. I had it with French dressing this time. The cleanliness of the store, including the condiments on the table, is excellent. The containers are designed to prevent spills, which is great.
