Returning to Tokyo is a busy day. Running around here and there to make sure I don't forget anything. Among all the places, I can't miss visiting Menami-chan. If I can't make it this time, I might just book a Shinkansen for the next holiday. It's just a little past 3 PM on a day when the store has just opened. I visited just the day before yesterday, so no surprise games today. Hello! Welcome! I got a PP today. When I sat at the counter on the right end, the owner set out the chopsticks I left behind last night. It feels like I've intruded into a relative's house. "What would you like to drink?" "Hoji tea..." The owner blinked her eyes. Huh? It seems like they forgot to bring the "mixer" for the hoji tea cocktail. They seemed relieved when they realized it was just the mixer. What's going on here? Since I had French cuisine for lunch, I wasn't very hungry. First, I had cherry trout marinated in kelp. The marination was relatively light, almost like sashimi. Full of the elegant aroma and flavor of cherry trout. This definitely calls for some sake. So I chose a local sake from Kyoto. Sipping away in broad daylight. It's irresistible. I don't want to leave. Reluctantly, I bid farewell after a delightful conversation with the owner and head chef. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

This time, I was guided to the second floor (realizing that I had visited the store before). Unlike the first floor, the atmosphere was calm, and I enjoyed delicious Japanese cuisine. I was too drunk to comment on each dish. Ordered grilled conger eel, kizushi, rolled omelette, lotus root manju, hamaten tempura, raw rockfish, and ikura (salmon roe) pickled. Thank you for the feast.

I used it for dinner. There are various side dishes available. There are plenty of options and it's hard to decide what to order. There are also many Kyoto-style dishes. The pike conger was delicious. I might come back if I'm unsure about choosing a restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I was planning to go to USJ, but suddenly wanted to go to Kyoto on the day of the visit, so I ended up at this place on the train to Kyoto that looked like it served delicious obanzai. Luckily, I was able to sit at a table on the second floor. For drinks, I started with a beer, a large bottle would be nice. The appetizer was dried radish, a bit salty. The obanzai assortment included boiled eggs, beef simmered in soy sauce, sweet potatoes simmered in white wine, yuba (tofu skin), and some kind of fish roe simmered in soy sauce. The fish roe went well with the sake I ordered. The smoked potato salad had a strong sourness and smoky flavor, which wasn't really to my liking. The fried eggplant in broth was well done with good flavor. The chilled winter melon and tomato with a thickened sauce was tasty, with a nice touch of myoga. The salt-grilled giji was delicious, with crispy skin and tender flesh. The price might be a bit high, but it's on the cheaper side, I suppose. The deep-fried pike conger eel was thick and juicy, a favorite of mine. I enjoyed it. The rolled omelette was a must-have when in Kyoto, although I found the broth a bit light and slightly oily. For drinks, I had a large bottle of Black Label beer and a cup of sake. As I ate, I started feeling a bit heavy (maybe overeating?), and the rolled omelette was a bit much to handle at the end, so I skipped dessert. The service on the second floor, where a young man was handling everything by himself, was very pleasant. Thank you. However, the lack of hospitality during the initial and final checkouts left a disappointing impression. As a result, I rated the service a 3. Overall, the food was delicious, but there may not have been anything particularly outstanding. Thank you for the meal.

Prices are constantly going up, so it's unavoidable, but I think the food was the best the first time I went. The portion size was small, so I didn't feel like I could get full, and there was no draft beer either. I left early. I wonder if I'll go back again.

I always feel a sense of security when I go there with anyone, and I am always satisfied even in a casual drinking situation. This time, I had a bottle of beer with - 5 side dishes - white mapo tofu - fried whale meat. I would love to come back again and again to enjoy the seasonal dishes.

I visited on a weekend night. [Atmosphere/Service] There is a counter, tatami seating, and a second-floor seating area, making it a relaxing and enjoyable place even for families with children. The atmosphere is friendly and not tense. The staff seemed like they might be a family running the place, based on some of the things they said. I'm not sure if that's true. [Drinks] They offer beer, sake, shochu, and even wine. The menu seemed somewhat limited, but there may be more options available if you ask. [Food] The obanzai set, hamo, and grilled fish seemed to be popular choices. They were all delicious and comforting, with flavors that you could enjoy every day without getting tired of them. The hamo was expertly deboned, which was impressive. The obanzai was decent, but maybe a bit too ordinary. [Overall] I think this restaurant strikes a good balance between izakaya, obanzai, and Japanese cuisine elements in Kyoto. It's a versatile place that would be great for a date or a family outing.

I visited a popular Kyoto restaurant after a long time and ended up enjoying a feast. It's a high-class establishment that offers delicious obanzai dishes. The flavors were excellent and the atmosphere was not that of a typical izakaya, but more of a refined dining experience. I ate and drank until I was full, and when I returned to my accommodation, I was completely knocked out. In Kyoto, you can not only feel the atmosphere but also taste the deliciousness. I'm getting hooked on Kyoto and being engulfed by its charm. The reliable quality that cannot be missed is the best. Each dish, with its subtle sweetness and flavorful dashi broth, was superb.

Located on the first floor overlooking the Kamogawa River on Sanjo Street in Kiyamachi-dori, there is a restaurant called "Goryori." Featured on a TV show about izakayas, we were seated at the counter without a reservation. We started with a hot sake from Kyoto called "Enju" for 750 yen. The appetizer for 250 yen (excluding tax) was elegant. It was difficult to choose from the array of "obanzai" dishes displayed beautifully on a white wooden board, so we opted for the "obanzai assortment" for 1300 yen, along with the Kyoto-style "Moroko Nanbanzuke" for 600 yen and the "Duck Tsukune Yaki" for 650 yen. The "obanzai assortment" arrived promptly, consisting of five beautifully presented dishes. The "Gyu no Shigureni" mentioned on the show was also included and was a great choice. The simmered dishes, simmered egg, and yuba were all delicious. As we were enjoying our meal, the Moroko dish arrived, which was delightful with its sweet and sour flavor. After about 15 minutes, the Duck Tsukune was ready, and we ordered a black sugar shochu from Amami for 700 yen with water, which paired nicely with the dish. As more reserved guests started to arrive, we decided to finish our meal after about 30 minutes.

I visited a conveniently located restaurant near Sanjo Kiyamachi, which opens at 3:00 PM. They have a white wooden counter and use charcoal for grilling, creating a calm atmosphere. The meat and fish dishes are well-seasoned and have a rich flavor. The cherry blossoms along the Takase River in front of the restaurant are starting to fall, so I recommend visiting soon.

The prices are relatively cheap, but the taste is top-notch. It feels like a Kyoto restaurant, so if you go to Kyoto, you must visit! It was a happy space to enjoy Japanese food while drinking sake. I think the price is too low for the taste. Since the menu is only in text, if you don't understand, there are photos on the internet!

I could only take a photo of the steamed kabura, but I also ordered other dishes such as spring horse mackerel sashimi, grilled conger eel, potato salad, ox tail, and rolled omelette. Every dish went perfectly with beer and hot sake, and they were delicious. It was a cold night, but the food quickly warmed me up. It was my first time visiting "Menami" in a while, and it was so delicious! By the way, Kyoto Tower was also beautiful.

I visited this restaurant, which has been in business for about 80 years, located along Kiyamachi Street, which runs north to south through the city like the Kamo River. I made a reservation in advance and arrived at 7:00 pm on a weekday. The exterior has a traditional Kyoto-style appearance, and the first floor of the restaurant has counter seats, tables in the back, and sunken table seats, creating a calm atmosphere. The third-generation female owner seemed to be managing the place with the help of a male student-looking part-time staff, indicating a possible shortage of staff. This restaurant only serves bottled beer, so we started with a toast with beer and ordered a variety of dishes: a selection of 5 obanzai dishes, assorted sashimi, shirako tempura, fresh yuba spring rolls, grilled mackerel with miso, duck and kujo green onion hot pot, okara, a salad of chrysanthemum greens and nameko mushrooms with sesame dressing, assorted pickles, and grilled rice balls as a finale. For drinks, we had sake after the beer, enjoying local sake brands such as "Kyoto no Haru," "Tokujirou," and "Nobutoshi" served warm. The highlights were the fresh yuba spring rolls and the seasonal specialty duck and kujo green onion hot pot. The spring rolls had a crispy texture from the fried yuba skin, complemented by the savory pork and crunchy bamboo shoots. The duck and kujo green onion hot pot had a sweet soy sauce-based broth that paired well with the tender duck and crispy fresh kujo green onions, providing a comforting warmth. The total bill for two people came to slightly over 20,000 yen, which seemed reasonable considering the location, atmosphere, quality of food, and the fact that the restaurant caters to tourists as well. I also appreciated the attention to detail in the tableware and sake vessels. When I asked the female owner about the restaurant's name, she explained that it was named after her grandmother, who was the founder and had the name "Nami." They added the honorific "me" to create the name "Menami." Without going into detail, I learned that this restaurant was founded by the mother of a certain Kondo, making it a well-known longstanding establishment in Kyoto. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience.

The dishes we had this time were: - Appetizer (¥250) - Assorted Kyoto-style side dishes (¥1900) - Sardine and seaweed roll (¥1100) - Saikyo-style grilled Spanish mackerel (¥1300) - Duck hot pot (¥2000) - Grilled chicken skewers (¥750) This restaurant is a pioneer in Kyoto-style side dishes and is highly trusted as a representative store.

I went to a restaurant where you can enjoy both the atmosphere and the food. There weren't many options for fresh salads, but instead, I tried some Kyoto-style side dishes. My favorite was the dried shrimp simmered with Yamasaka eggplant. The eggplant soaked up the delicious broth, and the dried shrimp added a great flavor. The dishes had a gentle broth that allowed the vegetables' flavors to shine through, and the dried shrimp really stood out. I want to try to recreate it at home. The dishes with a focus on the broth, like the rolled omelet, grilled tofu, and burdock root stir-fry, were also delicious. The subtle seasoning allowed the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine. I'm sure the menu changes with the seasons, so I definitely want to go back again.

The dishes were all delicious above a certain level. The boiled eggs, rolled omelette, and burdock steamed bun were particularly tasty. The chicken liver was also delicious. The flavors might be the lightest I've had in Kyoto so far. It's a matter of personal preference. I don't dislike it, but it depends on my mood. The last tea was delicious. I thought the sashimi was a bit expensive and the cost performance was so-so. If I were to go again, I might consider not ordering sashimi and just sticking to side dishes and other dishes.

"I used to live in Kyoto in the past," she said, as she told me about a restaurant that didn't seem like one of those trendy or newly popular places, but rather a place that seemed like it had always been in Kyoto and would continue to be. The counter was lined with large plates, a traditional "obanzai" restaurant, but not the typical cramped counter style you might find in Osaka. The interior was spacious with a sense of history, a true longstanding establishment. The Kyoto-style obanzai was elegant. The richness and depth of flavor in the mountain vegetable salad was impressive. The spring roll with yuba was crispy and delicious, with a delicate yuba crust. The sound alone was appetizing. The grilled sea bream was a must-try, with its sweet and delicious meat. The lotus root with cream and miso was refined and paired well with wine. The bamboo shoot and pine nut salad was delicious, likely due to the high quality of bamboo shoots in Kyoto. The simmered mibuna and fried tofu was a gentle and Kyoto-like dish that went well with sake. I couldn't help but think that Kyoto obanzai was really good. This restaurant has been in the heart of Kyoto's Sanjo for over 80 years. I could feel the continued tradition of Kyoto's culinary culture that has been preserved through the years. This restaurant seems like it will always be in Kyoto." ~~~ 8800 yen for 2 people.

I had heard in advance from an acquaintance about a Kyoto-style izakaya with a great atmosphere and delicious food, so I made a reservation without hesitation. When we arrived a few minutes late for our reservation, we were seated in groups of four and six. Looking at the menu, there were enticing dishes that seemed to represent the light and flavorful Kyoto-style cuisine. I started ordering drinks first as instructed by the staff, but my companions were still undecided on their drinks. When I tried to ask a few questions about the food to pass the time, the woman taking our order snapped, "Food comes after drinks!" Her tone was harsh, and she seemed either stressed or naturally unfriendly. It was a shame because the highly recommended Kyoto-style izakaya with a great atmosphere was ruined in an instant. The restaurant is well-regarded around Sanjo area, but with just one staff member's attitude, the restaurant's reputation took a nosedive. Customer service can really make or break a place! The food itself was delicious with subtle flavors and a rich umami from the dashi broth, but I won't be returning to this place with such staff.

I recently visited Kyoto for my sister's wedding and had the pleasure of dining at a restaurant recommended by my sister's husband, who is a long-time resident of the area. The restaurant, called Menami, is located not far from Kyoto City Hall Station along Kiyamachi Street, where you can enjoy the beautiful weeping cherry blossoms. I made a reservation for a private room in advance, which was a cozy space with a sunken kotatsu table and enough room to relax. We ordered a variety of dishes, including a selection of Kyoto-style side dishes, lotus root manju, mountain vegetable tempura, raw yuba spring rolls, grilled lamb with sansho pepper, and grilled anago with frosting. The appetizer was a delicious hijiki dish with a strong dashi flavor, and the Kyoto-style side dish assortment included five different dishes that were all flavorful and gentle in taste. The mountain vegetable tempura was recommended by the staff and had a lovely spring-like taste with fuki buds and bamboo shoots. The lotus root manju was crispy on the outside with a sweet bean paste and mustard filling. The raw yuba spring rolls were a delightful and healthy choice, filled with bacon, shiitake mushrooms, chives, and bamboo shoots. The grilled lamb with sansho pepper was tender and flavorful, and the grilled anago with frosting was a unique and luxurious dish where only the skin was crispy and the eel was semi-raw, offering a texture similar to conger eel or blowfish. It paired perfectly with the sake, Kagerou, a junmai ginjo sake with a fragrant and light taste. Overall, every dish was delicious, and the best part of Kyoto-style side dishes is being able to try a variety of dishes in small portions. I highly recommend trying the grilled anago with frosting for a unique dining experience. Next up, I'm looking forward to trying some matcha sweets! Thank you for the wonderful meal.
