Located near Shijo Station in Myodenji-cho, this Western confectionery shop is loved by locals for its specialty "Apple Pie." The large "Apple Pie" is filled with plenty of stewed apples and has become a topic of conversation on Instagram. The shop opened in April 2004. It is about a 5-6 minute walk from Exit 2 of Shijo Station. Head east on Shijo Street, turn left at the Shijo-Nishitoin Intersection, along Nishitoin Street. It is on the first floor of a building next to the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shijo, with a sign featuring a photo of the Apple Pie. I visited in the afternoon. The shop is not very large but has a neat space. On top of the showcase are whole and sliced "Apple Pies," and there are also "Apple Pies" inside the showcase. They focus on the "Apple Pie," so there was stock available even on weekend afternoons. The sizes and prices of the "Apple Pie" are as follows: - Whole (15cm ¥2,500, 18cm ¥4,300) - Square (¥1,450) - Sliced (¥540) I purchased the following: ● Apple Pie (Sliced) (¥540) Approximately 6.5cm in height. Under the lattice patterned pie with apricot jam, there are multiple layers of large stewed apples, equivalent to about one whole apple when sliced. To match the large amount of apples, the bottom and sides of the pie are slightly thick. Just looking at it made me excited. The pie is baked firmly, so it's best to use a fork and knife when eating. Now, let's dig in! The stewed apples are sweet and sour, crunchy, with a subtle cinnamon aroma. There was so much filling that it felt like I was eating stewed apples rather than an Apple Pie. It was delicious, but the sweetness became a bit overwhelming, so I had to slow down halfway through. On the other hand, the side crust was firm but had a crispy and fragrant texture. As mentioned above, I alternated between the apples and the pie crust, but the correct way to eat it is to "break the side crust, and savor it along with the stewed apples." If I had realized that earlier, I might not have gotten tired of it. I later realized that it might have been nice to have it with ice cream. (It is recommended to refrigerate and consume on the same day.) If I were 20 years younger, I would have been completely satisfied with this hearty "Apple Pie." Highly recommended for those who love Apple Pies packed with stewed apples.
