For our 2022 wedding anniversary, my spouse and I decided to take a trip to Sapporo. It had been two years since we last visited Hokkaido, and this time we were greeted with heavy snowfall, combined with the impact of the new coronavirus, which made it seem like there were very few tourists around. We took a leisurely flight to Sapporo, so we arrived at our hotel in the twilight. After unpacking and taking a breather, we took a taxi to the ropeway station at Mt. Moiwa. When we informed the ticket counter that we had a restaurant reservation, we were given round-trip tickets for the cable car as well. It turned out that if you reserve a dinner course, you also receive these round-trip tickets as a bonus, which was quite a good deal considering it would normally cost 1,800 yen for a round trip. The view from Mt. Moiwa, which was already dark by the time we boarded the ropeway, was truly breathtaking. Since the weather tends to be bad in winter, if the beautiful night view were to be obscured, the enjoyment would be greatly diminished. Fortunately, the weather was clear that night, allowing us to admire a beautiful crescent moon. We transferred to the cable car and arrived at the mountaintop station, where the restaurant was located on the next floor up. When we mentioned our reservation, we were shown to a seat where we could both enjoy the night view of Sapporo from a long sofa, which could be reserved for an additional fee. As a middle-aged couple, we felt a bit embarrassed, but it was our special anniversary after all. We had pre-ordered the menu, and we asked for the drink pairing. The restaurant needed sufficient brightness for dining, but taking photos of the night view through the window would include ourselves in the picture. So, during the meal, the lights in the restaurant were dimmed, allowing us to better appreciate the beauty of the night view, and those who wanted to take photos could capture beautiful shots at that time. It was a clever arrangement. As for the food, overall, it was satisfying. The appetizers and fish dish were particularly outstanding. The chef seemed to focus on providing dishes that emphasized the terroir, labeling the cuisine as "Moiwa Cuisine." But how about that night view! Being selected as one of Japan's "New Three Major Night Views" alongside Nagasaki and Kitakyushu, the beauty was truly like "turning over a jewelry box." Enjoying this magnificent night view while having a lovely meal in the warm restaurant during this cold season... I think it's the ultimate place to spend time with your loved one.
