Laughing Daruma is a popular shrimp specialty izakaya located in Otemon and Daimyo. As a charismatic shrimp fryer, it was one of the restaurants I was curious about. First, I tried the shrimp sashimi platter with four types of shrimp: amaebi, akami ebi, botan ebi, and sweet shrimp. As expected from a shrimp specialty restaurant, each shrimp had a different flavor and was deliciously sweet and firm. All of them were served with heads on, which was a delight for miso lovers like me. I prefer miso over the meat, so I enjoyed the miso with beer. Next, I tried the shrimp cream croquette that caught my eye in the photos. It looked cute with a shrimp head on top. The croquette had a nice balance of white sauce and juicy shrimp, making it a great snack with alcohol. The croquettes were larger than my palm, and just two of them were filling enough for one person. As for the main dish, the charismatic shrimp fryer, "Ebi Furya~!" included a regular shrimp fry and an angel shrimp fry. However, they were just ordinary shrimp fries and did not compare to the ones from Tanaka Tanaka Group and Misakitei in Itoshima City. These places are the shrimp fry gods, surpassing even gods. While it may be unfair to compare them, the tartar sauce at Laughing Daruma was delicious. It had a tangy flavor like Hamakatsu's tartar sauce, making it easy to eat even after devouring two huge cream croquettes.

This time, I visited a restaurant that was reserved by an acquaintance. We had the "Daruma Enjoyment Course" for 5,280 yen including tax, which was pre-booked. The course includes a 2-hour all-you-can-drink option. The drink menu is also attached in the photos. Some highlights of the meal were: - Crispy shrimp fry with tartar sauce - Cajun shrimp with a crispy outer layer and juicy inside, seasoned with a spicy flavor One dish that we found unnecessary was the "Butter-grilled live snow crab." Overall, the course included shrimp sashimi, salad, boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, shrimp mayo, shrimp chili, Cajun shrimp, live snow crab, tempura, and dessert, offering a variety of shrimp dishes to enjoy. It is recommended for shrimp lovers, but the cost performance is moderate. Other notes: - There is no parking available, so those coming by car will have to use a nearby coin parking lot. - The restaurant offers both sunken kotatsu-style seating and table seating. - Be cautious about potential splashing when peeling shrimp, as it may soil your clothes.

A restaurant that doesn't include shrimp in its name even though it's a shrimp specialty. "Warau Daruma" (Laughing Daruma). It's unclear from the outside that shrimp is the main focus, with no mention of it in the name or logo. I remembered this place from an old coworker who mentioned wanting to eat shrimp. Located near Akasaka Station, walk towards Kogurocho on the left side and you'll see a Deli Yamazaki. Turn left there and walk until you see a FamilyMart. Go up the central staircase in the building with FamilyMart and it's on the right. I've noticed on previous visits that there are many women here. Although Japanese people love shrimp, it seems that women enjoy it more based on the ratio of customers. Their specialty is a bucket filled with shrimp. Despite writing about it, I didn't eat it this time. I'm not good at peeling shrimp shells neatly, and I didn't want to disappoint my former coworker by eating messily. So I ordered the 3 shrimp platter. The three different sizes of shrimp were delicious and firm. I used to order sweet shrimp as a drinking snack, but this dish had more volume when considering it as a meal. The salad with shrimp, avocado, and a female-friendly combination was also enjoyable. I had eaten fresh spring rolls before, and they also had a good combination with avocado. Lastly, I tried the shrimp cream croquette. It's shaped with a bechamel sauce around one shrimp and then deep-fried. It looked cool, but the shrimp inside was a bit fine, which was disappointing. However, considering it's aimed at women, I could understand. The shrimp bucket dish offers better value for money, so it's a good place for women to enjoy shrimp without worrying, or couples to make their girlfriends happy.

Located in the Daimyo 1-chome area of Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City. The exterior is a stylish new building across the street from the previous store, on the second floor. Inside, the large glass windows surround the space due to the corner location of the building. With table seating and sunken kotatsu table seating, the design with a wooden theme creates a calm atmosphere. It has been a few years since I last visited the previous store, and it brings back memories. I tried the classic series - the "Bucket Assortment" where boiled shrimp is served. Various types of shrimp can be enjoyed, including the "Angelic Shrimp" and the "Eternal Shrimp," which are Black Tiger and Blue Tiger shrimp. The difference in taste was not very noticeable, and the prices were the same. The sashimi was "Sweet Shrimp" - just ordinary sweet shrimp you can find at a supermarket. The salad was "Shrimp and Avocado with Prosciutto" - a nice match between shrimp and avocado. For a drink, I had "Squid with Yuzu Pepper Mentaiko" - it was probably a commercially available product, but it paired well with alcohol. For a palate cleanser, choices like "Shrimp Senbei" and "Vinegar Offal" were not bad. I wanted to try the shrimp fry, but opted for "Shrimp Mayo" instead - the combination of mayo and shrimp was enjoyable. Lastly, I had the "Live Snow Crab with Butter on a Hot Plate" - unfortunately, the snow crab was too small and disappointing. Four of us, who love shrimp, went to Daruma, a famous restaurant in Daimyo. We made a reservation for the course and arrived. From start to finish, it was all about shrimp! The shrimp was plump and delicious. As a shrimp lover, this course was too good to be true. Everything was delicious, and it was a happy time.

This time, the super jumbo shrimp fry was disappointing with more than half of it being breading. The shrimp chili also lacked flavor, so it didn't leave the same impression as last time. However, the bucket and other items were delicious. ♥️

All the dishes were delicious. The only downside was that there were a lot of customers, so the service was a bit slow with only 2 staff members. Other than that, the food was really tasty! ☺✨

Last month, the relocated and renovated "Warau Daruma" in Daimyo caught my eye with its bright and clean second-floor space. The restaurant specializes in shrimp and crab dishes, and being directly managed by a seafood wholesaler, the prices are quite reasonable. A must-try here is the "Live Dancing Shrimp" - peel the live shrimp, dip it in wasabi soy sauce, and enjoy the fresh and sweet taste. The "Special Shrimp Fry" with homemade tartar sauce is a popular choice, and the "Grilled Cheese Shrimp Mayo" is a delicious combination of shrimp and cheese. Other recommended dishes include the "Grilled Shrimp with Salt", the "Daruma's Potato Salad" packed with shrimp, and the "Corn Tempura" which is sweet and crispy. The "Butter Grilled Snow Crab on Hot Plate" and "Mackerel in Sweet Soy Sauce" are also worth trying. The "Shrimp Fried Rice" is a flavorful and addictive dish that shouldn't be missed.
