It was a weeknight evening. After finishing work in Ebino City, I decided to stop by the office for the first time in a while. I met with some acquaintances, had dinner, and then planned to head back home. It was getting late, so my options were limited. On my way to Hakata Station, I found a seafood-focused restaurant that I love, so I quickly searched on Tabelog to check out the menu. But... the prices were... quite high... almost double what they used to be. I understand that in these times, the cost of catching fish has also increased due to rising fuel prices. I want to support them, but on this day, I wanted a more affordable dinner. I had to give up on that place. Then I remembered there was a Matsuya nearby. I thought they might have some limited-time menu items, so I decided to go there. I walked there and arrived around 9:10 PM. There were only two customers in the restaurant, sitting at tables and counter seats. I was about to buy a meal ticket from the ticket machine in the restaurant when the staff was operating it. I waited in line, but was told to take a seat and order when the staff noticed me. I sat at the empty counter seat, and a staff member brought me the menu. Unfortunately, they only had regular menu items, and they could only accept cash. I wanted to pay with a cashless method, but I had to accept it. I ordered the Thick-Cut Pork Yakiniku Set from the regular menu and chose the extra-large rice option. Since it was self-service, I went to get some tea. I received the receipt and waited for my number to appear on the panel. After about 10 minutes, my number was displayed, so I went to pick up my order. The rice portion was quite generous. There were three sauces on the table: barbecue, sweet, and ponzu. I decided to try all of them. I drizzled barbecue sauce on the yakiniku and took a bite. The yakiniku was thick but tender, and the barbecue sauce was flavorful. The sweet sauce was a bit milder, while the ponzu had a slight acidity that was refreshing. I continued eating with the barbecue sauce. The miso soup had seaweed, tofu, and fried tofu in it. The salad mainly consisted of cabbage, with carrots, cucumbers, and corn. Normally, I would use sesame dressing, but at Matsuya, I used French dressing, which brought back memories from my high school days. The rice went well with the yakiniku, and I finished everything with ease. It would have been nice to have more menu options to choose from at the ticket machine... but it couldn't be helped due to the timing. This meal cost me 700 yen, which I think is quite reasonable. After finishing my meal, I left the restaurant immediately to head back home.
