Next to Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, where the god of learning Sugawara no Michizane is enshrined, there is a restaurant called Hoshiai Charyo where you can enjoy a unique type of udon called "Suberan Udon." The noodles are thick and have a special texture that prevents them from slipping off the chopsticks. I tried the Osaka-style Takoyaki Udon, which was delicious with a gentle and flavorful broth. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a casual dining experience.

I visited a udon restaurant after lunch at 12:50. I had wanted to come here for a while. I had tried coming once before, but it was closed. Today, I happened to be nearby, even though I was already full... but I managed to have some udon anyway. I ordered the "Tenjin Kitsune Udon" which comes with tempura made of mushrooms and a large piece of fried tofu. The lady recommended it, and it was really good. The udon noodles were slippery and delicious. I enjoyed my meal in the garden while looking at the plum blossoms. It was quite nice. I also had a plum juice, which was also recommended and quite good.

I'm not a student, but I went to eat Suberan Udon for the first time. I ordered the Tenjin Kitsune Udon (550 yen) which comes with tempura of fried tofu and mushrooms. The noodles had a chewy texture! The broth was light and refreshing, made with bonito dashi, and I drank it all up. Eating udon while looking at the beautiful plum blossoms in full bloom was the best. Thank you for the meal.

Thank you for always viewing my content. If you enjoyed it, I would be happy if you could bookmark the restaurant by clicking the "Save Shop" button. Today is the Doll's Festival, and it's the second half of the exam season. Now it's time for the entrance exams for public high schools. The plum blossoms at Osaka Tenmangu Shrine are in full bloom, and with the prayers for success from my followers, I visited Hoshiawase Saryo for the first time. The address of Hoshiawase Saryo is 2-5-6 Tenjinbashi, Kita-ku, Osaka City, a 1-minute walk from JR Tozai Line "Osaka Tenmangu Shrine" station. I arrived at the shop around noon after crossing Tenjinbashi and the pond on the north side of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. Closed on Wednesdays, business hours are from 11:00 to 16:00. After disinfecting my hands with alcohol, I got permission to take a photo of the staff and placed my order for my husband's Tenjin Fox Udon in large size, my Octopus Takoyaki Udon, and two pieces of sticky rice cakes. The total came to 1,520 yen. After paying, I sat at the outdoor seating area since the weather was nice. The full bloom of the plum blossoms was smiling at me! After a short wait, the dishes arrived. The Octopus Takoyaki Udon is a typical dish from Kansai. Both dishes are slippery udon noodles. Slippery udon noodles have cuts in the noodles, making it easy to eat with chopsticks or a fork. The noodles are 18cm long, which is about 10cm shorter than regular udon noodles, making it easy to eat for people with disabilities, elderly people, children, and even foreigners who are not good with chopsticks. The cuts in the noodles help the broth stick to them, allowing you to enjoy the full flavor of the broth. The Tenjin Fox Udon had a tempura of wood ear mushrooms, and the kitsune (fried tofu) had a satisfying volume. While enjoying the full bloom of the plum blossoms, I finished the meal deliciously. Just as I finished the udon, the sticky rice cakes arrived. The owner divided them into one with smooth red bean paste and one with chunky red bean paste. They were warm, moderately sweet, and comforting! After satisfying my hunger, I thanked Hoshiawase Saryo and left. Husband, thank you for the meal! It was delicious! I will come again! On my way back, I visited Osaka Tenmangu Shrine to pray for everyone's success! Thank you for reading until the end. I hope this information on gourmet food can be of some help to you.

Known as the god of learning, Osaka Tenmangu Shrine is located on the north side of the shrine, deep in the Hoshiai pond, where you can find the famous dish for exam takers called "Slippery Udon." In the middle of the udon noodles, there is a ring that is hard to pick up with chopsticks without slipping. It will make you laugh! ✨

Located quietly next to Hoshiai Pond (Turtle Pond) just north of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine is Hoshiai Charyo. Crossing a bridge and walking through the garden from the road, you'll find yourself at the entrance of the shop. Despite being only about 10 meters away from the road, the atmosphere is incredibly calm. The weather was clear and sunny today, making the shade of the trees look beautiful. There were outdoor seats available, but when I mentioned sitting there, I was advised, "It's really hot today." So, I decided to dine inside. The interior had a nice traditional tea house feel to it. I ordered the recommended "Tenjin Fox Udon" and onigiri. The dish arrived after a short wait, and I paid in cash. The udon noodles were unique, being short and flat with a slit in the middle. The staff explained that this design was to make it easier for foreigners who struggle with slurping noodles, as the short length and slit help prevent slipping and make it easier to eat with a fork or chopsticks. This design also makes it easier for children and elderly people to enjoy. I later found out that this udon has even won the Universal Design Award. Additionally, since the restaurant is located near the academic Tenmangu Shrine, students come to eat this udon to ensure they don't slip up during exams. Delicious, enjoyable, and considerate udon. Thank you for the various stories. It was a delightful meal.

There are many banners for "Suberan Udon" inside Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. When I asked the parking attendant what it was, he explained that it's udon with a slit in it so it doesn't slip off your chopsticks. He said it's definitely worth trying. I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know if it's delicious, but the shop is right next to Tenma-dai Shrine. The dry udon noodles do have a slit, and if you stick your chopsticks in there, it becomes "Suberan Udon." Sounds interesting!

For people in Kagawa, if you want to bring a souvenir, it has to be udon, right? The reason doesn't really matter. I went to buy some udon again this time because I really like the udon here. I bought 20 bags of 100g dried Sanuki udon for 150 yen per bag (tax included). It's slightly cheaper because it's irregular udon. I like simple, ordinary udon that I can eat at home. This udon has won the 4th Kobe Universal Design Award and the 3rd Kids Design Award. I've had it at the shop before and it's delicious. I like its innovative design. I'll keep coming back for more! See you again!

Last time (at the beginning of this month), I tried and bought the slippery udon here, and it was so good that I decided to buy it as a souvenir. When I went to buy it, I found out that the price was really attractive at 150 yen (tax included) for slippery udon (100g). However, this time they only had one bundle left, unlike last time when there were plenty. I talked to the staff and found out that the 150 yen ones are made from udon with slightly chipped ends. So, I decided to buy the slippery udon with soup (230 yen, tax included) in bulk this time! I also bought one of the 150 yen ones for myself. I'll definitely come back again! Side note 1: At the last checkout, the staff called me "sensei" (teacher) for some reason. Side note 2: The motherly staff at the store gave me a slippery sticker for each pack of udon I purchased. Side note 3: I was given an extra sticker for myself (When did I become a teacher?) Side note 4: I immediately put the sticker in my wallet and carry it around with me. (My love for udon knows no bounds) Side note 5: My weekend wallet is from the 100-yen store, so I don't hesitate to use it for things like this.

The exam season is in full swing. After the January Center Test, the national university entrance exams are coming up soon. Junior high school students have finished their private high school entrance exams and are now preparing for public high school exams. Although my sons are not affected this year, I went to Osaka Tenmangu Shrine to buy "Slippery Udon" for a nearby 9th grader. This Slippery Udon has a slit in the middle of the wide noodles, making it easy to eat with chopsticks or a fork, even for children and the elderly. The udon, known for being "slippery," has become popular as a good luck charm for passing exams. During the exam season, many students come to eat udon for good luck or buy it to take home with their families. The shop, located on the north side of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, by the side of Kame no Ike pond, is called Hoshiawase Charyo (Udon Sokuju). The most cost-effective option is the Tenjin Kitsune Udon (500 yen tax included). The udon has a soft texture typical of Osaka udon, but it is chewy and delicious. The slightly sweet and light broth pairs perfectly with the soft udon. The kitsune and tenjin tempura toppings are generous, and all this for 500 yen is a great deal. After filling up, I bought several bags of souvenir udon (dried noodles, 3 servings for 480 yen) to take home. I gave them to my second son, who promptly distributed them to the nearby 9th graders. As a result, one of them recently informed us that they had been accepted to a private high school where the teacher had said it was impossible to get in. It seems like there really is some good luck involved after all!

At the end of the year, I decided to indulge in udon noodles, and the only restaurant that I had to remove from my list was this one. However, I visited it with N-san at the beginning of the new year. Inside the shrine, a woman who seemed to be a shrine maiden welcomed us. I saw the words "sweet sake" and thought they only served that, but they also had udon on the menu. I ordered the "Tenjin Kitsune Udon" for 500 yen (tax included), which was full of ingredients and had a lightly flavored broth that I enjoyed. The udon was impressive, with two noodles stuck together as one, intentionally split in the middle to create a unique shape. I had never seen anything like it before. To show my respect for this innovative shape, I bought some udon as a souvenir. The shop staff were very friendly, and the unique design of the udon had actually won some kind of Good Design Award. I will definitely come back again. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

It is located near Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, in the back of Hoshiai Pond. The udon has holes in it so that it won't slip off your chopsticks. The noodles are soft. The ingredients are simple and the prices are reasonable. It is a udon with a good fortune, so I have it occasionally. On this day, there was an event on July 7th so I got it to go. You can also eat outside. You can buy dried noodles as souvenirs. I was served cold tea while waiting on a hot summer day. The udon prepared by the mothers is heartwarming. They close early at 4 pm.

I went to "Hoshi Ai Saryo" near Osaka Tenmangu Shrine to try their famous "Suberan Udon". When you cross the "Hoshi Ai Bridge" over the "Hoshi Ai Pond" (Turtle Pond), you will arrive at "Hoshi Ai Saryo". The atmosphere is perfect for July with such an elegant name. Inside the restaurant, there was a hint of mosquito repellent incense in the air. I ordered the recommended "Tenjin Kitsune Udon" (450 yen) and a rice ball (100 yen). The rice ball looked like a wax food sample, but it was real. It was warmed up in the microwave before being served. The udon had a unique shape, called "Suberan Udon", which is a product of "Udon Sokuju Co., Ltd.". The broth was delicious on its own, and the toppings included tempura, tofu pouch, fried egg, and green onions. The udon noodles were short and easy to eat, with a patented design for easy picking up with chopsticks or a fork. I received a "Suberan®" sticker as a souvenir. There is still so much to discover in Osaka, as I realized on this visit.

On a holiday, I visited Osaka Tenmangu Shrine to see the early blooming plum blossoms. The preparations for the plum festival were underway in the shrine grounds. At the north side of the grounds, near Hoshiai Pond, I tried the famous Suberan Udon that I had heard about. In true Osaka fashion, I ordered the kitsune udon. Shortly after, I was served tea and the udon. The udon was unique with a slit in the middle, just like the Suberan style. The thick noodles had a satisfying texture and were surprisingly delicious. The broth was light and Kansai-style. At only 400 yen, it was a great value for its taste. This is a must-try specialty udon for everyone, not just students preparing for exams, but also comedians and all Osaka locals.
