"The amount spent per person is the cost per night. 'Where should we have our New Year's party and what should we eat?' This was the topic of discussion among my drinking buddies who have been having a New Year's party every year. Should we go to a popular izakaya? Have crab? Yakiniku? Fugu? But we had fugu at the year-end party last year... We were all scratching our heads trying to decide. Then T suggested, 'How about going to Minoh during the holidays?' Great idea!! 'If we stay overnight, we can drink and relax without worrying about time!' 'Minoh is close by and there's a hot spring too, sounds good!' 'The buffet at Ooedo Onsen Monogatari is supposed to be amazing.' And so, this year's New Year's party was decided to be at the Minoh Kanko Hotel at Ooedo Onsen Monogatari. We gathered in front of BIGMAN at Hankyu Umeda Station, had lunch at Sanbangai, and took the Hankyu train to Minoh. It was my first time coming by train, and I was surprised at how close it was. Dinner (with all-you-can-drink) and breakfast buffet, a 2-day spa garden pass, and a 6-person room for the night before the holiday plan cost 18,320 yen per person (surprisingly expensive!). The spa garden is available from 10 am. Since hotel check-in starts at 3 pm, we calculated the bathing and relaxation time backward and entered at 12:30 pm. The Minoh Onsen Spa Garden has a thick carbonated hydrogen carbonate spring, boasting one of the best spring qualities in Kansai, also known as the 'spring of life.' The slimy feeling was nice. In addition to the hot springs, there are various facilities such as table tennis, theater shows, a festival corner, game center, and a bedrock bath. There are also capybaras and ponies outside the facility. Among them, feeding the ponies for 300 yen was adorable. And of course, we toasted with drinks in the open space. At the Minoh Kanko Hotel, we checked in at exactly 3 pm and toasted with canned beer and canned chu-hi. The evening was approaching. I was a little tipsy, but it was time to change into a yukata and head to the hotel's pride, the 'sky outdoor bath.' The Minoh Kanko Hotel's 8th-floor Hikari no Yu offers a magnificent view of the Kobe area turning red. It was a fantastic sky gradient. I was moved by the sight, despite my age. I later realized that this wonderful twilight men's bath had a narrower field of view and bath compared to the women's bath! Discrimination between men and women! (laughs) Nevertheless, it was a beautiful day today. It was great! We enjoyed the sky show for about 30 minutes. As the evening approached, we went back inside. Dinner was available from 5 pm or 7:30 pm, and we chose the 7:30 pm slot to enjoy this fantastic view. Again, the three men who went back to the room first toasted with cold beer. Delicious! The dinner buffet was in a very large hall. It was surprising! There were many varieties of Japanese, Western, Chinese, and dessert dishes. The guests were also plentiful. Luckily, we were guided to a window seat overlooking Osaka. (It was really lucky!) Each of us grabbed a tray and started the buffet. I gathered some items and returned to my seat to toast once again for the 2020 New Year's party. Cheers to this year too! The main dishes were... - Roast beef cut on the spot - Freshly grilled beef steak - Freshly fried shrimp tempura and more - Tuna and sweet shrimp sashimi brought continuously - Thinly sliced tilefish for shabu-shabu tilefish hot pot Those were the highlights, I guess? There were too many other dishes to mention. The crispy fried chicken wings were delicious. My impression was... 'It's a good buffet for a buffet!' However, the drink menu for all-you-can-drink was amazing! Especially"
