I went to "Sendo" near Nipponbashi Station in Osaka. It seems to be a shop that specializes in pork cutlets. They have a variety of menu items, from set meals to izakaya dishes. I had the dashimaki set meal (680 yen including tax). The dashimaki was fluffy and had a high level of flavor. I was pleasantly surprised as I didn't have high expectations. The miso soup had thick slices of pork that made me briefly think it was chicken. I think they pay attention to their pork cutlets, which is their specialty. Kimchi was also included and it was delicious, probably store-bought or for commercial use. I found a good restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a YouTuber who seems to be Offza Namba. I arrived just in time for their opening at 5 pm on the weekend. I sat at the counter furthest back, where the friendly owner took my order. They fried the food freshly after I ordered, so it took a bit of time, but it added to the excitement. I ordered a set meal with fried rice and cabbage instead of white rice. The tonkatsu seemed smaller than expected, but the miso soup was delicious as others had mentioned. The fried rice was so good that it could even be eaten as plain white rice. The kind personality of the owner really shined through. The restaurant is located in a quiet alley just off the bustling shopping street, away from the crowds. There were also some limited-time menu items that I would like to try next time. Overall, it was a delightful experience as I made my way back to the station, avoiding the busy streets.

Hidden in a quiet alley in Dotonbori, Osaka, was a tonkatsu or town Chinese restaurant? After finishing up my business in Namba, I was in the mood for tonkatsu, so I looked for a nearby place. There was a famous tonkatsu restaurant nearby known for its thick cuts, but the long line of young people and foreigners made me immediately cross it off. Right next to that place was a restaurant called "Sendo," with a name that Dragon Ball fans would love. Inside, it had a U-shaped counter like a gyudon chain restaurant. To satisfy my tonkatsu craving, I ordered the Hirekatsu set. I noticed in the menu that for an additional 100 yen, I could change the rice to fried rice... Great news for food lovers! I didn't hesitate to make the change. Shortly after, the fried rice was served first, and it was deliciously fluffy and tasty! Wait, what's this? I would come here just for the fried rice alone. As I was enjoying the fried rice, the Hirekatsu arrived. It looked just like the photo, and after one bite, I was impressed by how tender and delicious it was! All of this for 1,080 yen (1,180 yen with the rice change) was quite a steal. I will definitely come back when I'm in the Dotonbori area again.

For lunch, I wandered around Namba. Dotonbori was crowded with lots of people lining up at takoyaki shops and other stores. I passed by the famous Senkouji and Inanoichi, where there were long lines as well. It's honestly too hot to wait in line like this. So, I decided to visit Sendo, a restaurant I had checked on Tabelog. I arrived after 12 pm and it was not crowded. The restaurant only has a counter. I ordered the mixed set meal with pork cutlet and fried shrimp and shiitake mushrooms. I changed the white rice to fried rice and got the large portion. I thought about ordering the rolled omelette as well, but since the reviews showed a picture of the set meal with an omelette, I didn't order it. After a while, the food arrived. It came with kimchi and a small dish of rolled omelette. I was glad I didn't order the rolled omelette separately. The miso soup was pork soup. The pork cutlet was delicious. The fried rice was a bit mild in flavor but I could eat a lot of it. The fried shrimp and shiitake mushrooms were also tasty. I was full by the end of the meal. The price was 1,280 yen, so I assume the regular set meal was 1,080 yen, changing to fried rice was an extra 100 yen, and probably the large portion was another 100 yen. Considering the portion size and price, I think it's a good value. It was a restaurant that would delight fans of set meals. Thank you for the meal.

The restaurant is located about a 2-3 minute walk northwest from Exit 2 of Nipponbashi Station on the Osaka Metro. Upon entering the restaurant, we were seated at the counter. We ordered the Ebi Shiitake & Tonkatsu & Karaage set meal along with fried rice. First, we tried the fried rice which had pork, egg, and green onions, and was seasoned with a gentle salt flavor. Next, the set meal arrived with rice, miso soup, and kimchi. The set meal included pre-cut pork cutlet, Ebi Shiitake cutlet, karaage, shredded cabbage, and cherry tomatoes. The tonkatsu was crispy with a flavorful pork taste, best enjoyed with sauce. The Ebi Shiitake cutlet had a crispy outer layer with a delicious combination of shrimp and shiitake mushroom inside. The karaage was bite-sized and easy to eat. Everything was so delicious that we ended up getting seconds of rice. The miso soup contained pork, daikon radish, and green onions, serving as a nice side dish. We look forward to trying a different set meal next time. Thank you for the meal.

If you head south from Dotonbori, you'll find a charming narrow alley. Nearby, you'll see a popular restaurant run by a sumo wrestler with a long line, serving thick katsudon. But instead, I recommend "Sendo" for a more casual standing bar atmosphere at night. For lunch, they serve tonkatsu and Chinese dishes. The restaurant is narrow with a counter in the middle, allowing people to walk through. There's a TV near the entrance showing wide shows. The staff, although a bit reserved, brought us tea. The lunch menu is extensive, but the standout is the "Rosu Katsu Set" for 1080 yen with an option for extra rice for 30 yen. They serve shredded cabbage on the side. After a 20-minute wait, the meal arrived with miso soup, a generous portion of rice, kimchi, and a unique egg dish. The rosu katsu was thick, crispy, and flavorful, with a sweet and savory sauce that complemented it perfectly. The rice was fluffy and slightly chewy, giving it a nice texture. The substantial portion of rosu katsu, weighing over 250g, is a meat lover's dream. In this area, it seems like they are competing with each other on the thickness of their katsu.

Last year around this time, I visited the restaurant wanting to try the Jade Noodles, but I was told it was before the season so I couldn't taste it. However, this year, it seems the Jade Noodles were available a bit earlier, so I ordered it with pork shabu on top. The cold noodles are flavored with sesame sauce that has spinach mixed in. The boiled pork slices were thickly cut and generously served on top of the noodles, with plenty of crispy lettuce underneath. The acidity of the tomato and the sesame sauce complement each other well, making it a popular menu item that you would want to eat as the weather gets warmer.

Tonkatsu is my current little obsession. I stumbled upon this place while searching, and decided to give it a try since I had it saved. Located in a back alley near Nipponbashi Station in Minami, right next to the popular "Tabucchan," this place is marked as "Tonkatsu・Chinese." With that combination and the casual vibe, I imagined they would serve hearty dishes. The interior only has counter seats in a U-shape, and the menu is incredibly extensive with a variety of fried dishes and Chinese options. This time, I was here for the tonkatsu, so I ordered the "Mixed Set" for 1050 yen. It arrived in less than 10 minutes, and the portion was huge. A thick and large pork cutlet, along with a minced cutlet. It also came with two side dishes - rolled omelette and kimchi, as well as rice and miso soup. Overall, it was quite rough in terms of presentation. Some people might enjoy this kind of roughness. I think I would have devoured this eagerly back in my student days after club activities. The breadcrumbs were very coarse, the cut of the cutlets was rough, and even the cabbage was roughly chopped. The miso soup, however, was surprisingly delicious. My stomach was completely stuffed! I barely managed to finish it all. It was a feast.

Located in the alleyways of Osaka Nipponbashi and Dotonbori, "Tonkatsu Chuuka Sendo" is a restaurant where you can enjoy generous portions of tonkatsu and hirekatsu set meals, as well as Chinese dishes at a reasonable price. Since it's getting hot, I visited for lunch hoping they were serving their jade noodles, but they hadn't started yet... So I ordered the hirekatsu set meal instead. It came with white rice, a hearty pork miso soup with diced pork, kimchi, and dashimaki tamago. The hirekatsu was thickly cut and had a bold visual appeal, which is a popular feature of their tonkatsu. This restaurant is also known for its Chinese set meals and offers a wide variety of dishes at very affordable prices. Keep in mind that they operate with just one chef, so it may take a bit longer during busy hours. If you have some extra time, I recommend visiting Sendo for a satisfying lunch experience.

I went for a walk to Namba for dinner. It was a weekday night, so there were hardly any people on the Sakaisuji side of Dotonbori. I had decided to go to this place if it was open, and luckily it was. There were no other customers, but they seemed busy with delivery orders. I was tempted by the large menu for two or the option to change the fried rice for an extra 100 yen, but I ended up ordering the Pork Cutlet Set for 1,080 yen with a large portion of rice for an additional 30 yen. I watched the Tigers game on TV while waiting. After about 15-20 minutes, my order arrived. They even included a small portion of kimchi, which was a nice touch. The rice portion was quite generous, served in a regular-sized bowl but piled high like in a manga. The pork cutlet was thinly sliced, about 1.5-2 centimeters thick. The sauce was served on the side, allowing me to add as much as I liked. The meat was cooked through and the batter was slightly coarse, which paired well with the tangy sauce. The portion was quite large, around 200-250 grams, and I struggled to finish it all. The new location was more spacious and cleaner than the old one, with a high counter and various menu items and JRA cards displayed. It seems like they want to create a place where you can enjoy drinks and watch horse racing, but I just come for the tonkatsu. Next time, I'll try the fried rice and katsu sandwich!

At a Chinese restaurant that also serves tonkatsu, there was a katsudon on the menu. I decided to try it out for lunch in Namba. The katsudon turned out to be different from the usual Chinese-style katsudon. The meat was a bit tough, the egg topping was too much, and the flavor was not too strong. However, the miso soup that came with it was delicious with thick slices of pork. The restaurant is perfect for solo dining with a variety of appealing dishes. It's a great place to end the day.

I watched all three parts of the Bunraku Nishiki-Aki public performance for now! The location was in Nihonbashi and Namba. A friend who found out I was out sent me a worried message to either buy a bento and quickly return home or go to a less crowded restaurant. I checked a few places but decided to eat quickly and head back. A few minutes' walk from the theater, I wanted to eat fried food so I went to a tonkatsu place. It was quite crowded, but it turned out to be the neighboring tantanmen shop. Luckily, it was not busy there! I was alone and felt relieved. Maybe they do a lot of deliveries here? There were betting slips for horse racing at the counter, probably because the horse racing ticket booth was nearby. Do many people eat here before the show? First, I ordered a beer and some appetizers. But it turns out that appetizers are only available on Saturdays and Sundays, so I settled for just the tonkatsu since I already had a beer. After a while, the carefully fried tonkatsu arrived. The coating was crispy, but the pork seemed a bit tough and lacked juiciness. Maybe I ordered too much with the beer? I got a bit tired of it but managed to finish it. With the big lunch portion of rice and miso soup earlier, I should be satisfied with the tonkatsu. Now, let's head back to the Sakaisuji Line Nihonbashi station. I bought some vegetables because I felt like I hadn't had enough. Time to eat some veggies! And off to the next destination!

People live with a self-contradiction of not knowing what is true and what is a lie. Director Aoyama Shinji's film "Living in the Sky" has surprisingly low ratings, perhaps because of the philosophical lines that make viewers pause. The heroine, Nao (played by Tabemikako), feels a sense of emptiness that is not solely due to her parents' accident. If she moves forward, she may encounter something new. Today, I visited "Senzu" in Namba, which had moved from Nihonbashi. I had discovered it by chance before, and now, after 10 years, I returned to try their "Hire Katsu Set Meal." The meal, priced at 1,080 yen, was impressive with its perfectly cooked pork fillet and side dishes like rolled omelette, kimchi, and miso soup. The tender meat, crispy coating, and homemade sauce made for a delightful experience. The cabbage and kimchi added a nice touch, while the rolled omelette and miso soup warmed the heart. It was a delicious meal that left me feeling content. I hope to revisit sooner next time, without waiting another 10 years, as I often get sidetracked by new restaurants along the way. The journey may be challenging, but it's worth it in the end.

Since visiting the shop before moving, this time I got a takeout katsu sandwich. The katsu was incredibly thick with plenty of cabbage and sauce soaking into the bread. By the way, this was my breakfast. A hearty katsu sandwich in the morning really kept me full.

On a Saturday afternoon, I arrived in Minami via Kintetsu around 1 PM and searched for a lunch spot. I found a place with a blue tent and the words "Osakaya" on the outside, which seemed to be the place I was looking for. Inside, there was only a counter in a U-shape, and everyone was watching horse racing on TV with newspapers in hand. I couldn't find tonkatsu on the menu, as they seemed to be serving only izakaya dishes for lunch. Since I was already seated, I decided to switch gears and enjoy some daytime drinking. I ordered a draft beer (Super Dry, 390 yen), plum chu-hai (350 yen), and various skewers (shrimp, squid, chicken, onion, each 100 yen) with incredibly crispy breading. I also tried the sautéed buttered spinach and roe (400 yen), which had a great combination of crunchy spinach and soft roe. It was an unexpected turn of events, but I ended up finding delicious skewers.

I visited this place after seeing it on TV before. It seems like they have moved. The "run-down" feeling only increases my expectations. I sat at the counter. They have a handwritten menu, which doesn't really inspire confidence. I decided to go with the recommended dish, the "Senmame" set meal for 1080 yen (tax included). Smoking is allowed. It took 15 minutes for the food to be served. The hot dishes were indeed piping hot. Hmm, this doesn't taste like much. It's just like food you'd find at a typical diner. But I guess that's what chain restaurants are all about (just my personal opinion). The atmosphere here is quite bleak as well...Overall, not impressed.

Lunch bike trip. So, after moving, it's my first visit. Near Wins. The fried rice looked tempting on Instagram the other day. 1:30 pm on a weekday. No other customers. Only counter seats. The specialty is tonkatsu. What to have with the fried rice? I was considering when they said you can change the regular rice in the set meal to fried rice for an extra 100 yen! So, I got the shrimp fry set meal with fried rice. It seems that they are popular for delivery starting from 500 yen. From the kitchen, I could hear the sound of the egg crackling in the fried rice ♬ After a while, the fried rice appeared! Wow, the fried rice I saw on Instagram! Fluffy and delicious! The shrimp fry and miso soup also arrived! The miso soup was like pork soup or chicken soup. After recovering, I tried fried food for the first time. It's a bit heavy. Not sure if I'm not fully recovered or if it's just not my thing. But, I'll come back next time to try the shrimp fried rice ♬

The popular tonkatsu restaurant that moved in May due to building reconstruction was quite busy with takeout orders when I visited with one other person. They offer affordable dishes, but the cooking is done properly. The tonkatsu, in particular, is delicious with thick meat and a crispy coating. The tonkatsu sauce could be improved (it seems like store-bought sauce). The set meal with shrimp katsu, chicken karaage, and tonkatsu is priced at 980 yen, but I would recommend just getting the tonkatsu as the other items are just average. The owner is friendly and talkative, but it may be difficult to have a conversation as they are busy. It's a restaurant focused on meals, but they also offer cheap drinks and snacks, making it a good option for daytime drinking.

When I ordered delivery from Sendo-san, a Chinese and tonkatsu restaurant that I used to frequent in Minami, I decided to try their new location where you can also dine in. I ordered the loin cutlet set meal, which came with kimchi and miso soup. Hmm, was the cutlet always this dry? The rice was also not that great. Maybe it's because I usually just have a bite of someone else's food when I'm drunk, but it felt different from my previous impression.

I went to have lunch at Sensu, located in a quite deep place, so I got a little lost but managed to arrive. I ordered the Hire Katsu set for ¥1080. It took a bit of time because they cut and fry it after taking the order, but they were very meticulous in their preparation. It was delicious and had good value for money. I enjoyed the tonkatsu. Thank you for the meal.

First visit after relocation. The new shop is located around the same area as the previous one, separated by the Sakaisuji Line. The shop is long and narrow, with a U-shaped counter that gives the impression it used to be a ramen shop. The capacity is definitely larger than the previous shop, making it easier for even solo diners to enter. The menu is similar. ☆Pork Cutlet Set Meal 1080 yen A slightly darker fried pork cutlet with cabbage, rice, rolled omelette, and miso soup, just like the previous shop. The chaos of the previous shop was already evident in the atmosphere of the new shop. It's more accessible now, so I would like to try other menu items as well.
