Ohana is a restaurant that, as the name suggests, offers wine with their tempura skewers. I really wanted to go there for lunch. My goal was to try the chicken sashimi bowl that they serve for lunch. I love chicken sashimi, so when I saw that they offered it for only ¥600, I had to go. Their last order is at 2:30 pm, which was perfect for me after my usual workout. However, when I arrived and asked for the chicken sashimi bowl, I was told they were sold out. It was a limited quantity item. I was shocked because it wasn't mentioned on the menu page on Tabelog. But when I checked on my way out, it was clearly written on a sign outside. I couldn't leave at that point, so I reluctantly changed my order to a tempura set with 6 skewers. It was unfortunate timing since I was planning to come back the following week specifically for the tempura. I had originally planned to order a set with both the bowl and tempura, so losing the bowl was disappointing. The tempura included yam, white fish, large shrimp, pork sausage, pumpkin, red sea bream, and corn. But this review isn't about the tempura itself (although I particularly liked the corn because it was sweet). The main issue was that tempura and rice don't go well together. Tempura isn't a typical rice accompaniment like tempura or fried foods. And there weren't any other side dishes to balance it out (the menu listed pickles as a side, and miso soup was the only other option). Overall, the meal felt unbalanced. But the biggest problem was that the rice wasn't tasty. It had some discolored parts, and even though it was towards the end of lunchtime, serving rice like that to customers doesn't seem right. Ah, I really wanted to try the chicken sashimi bowl. Although, if the rice was like that, maybe it wouldn't have made a difference in the end? The restaurant is located in a building designed to look like a row of townhouses in Funamachi Hiranocho, with a small floor area that felt a bit cramped. However, when I passed by during dusk on another day, it had a charming atmosphere, so it seems like it might be better to visit at night.
