It's been a while since I last visited Shinko Ume for some comforting seiro dishes. Today, I ordered the beef rice seiro set which came with a choice of mini udon or mini soba. I opted for warm soba. The beef rice seiro was served piping hot and the gentle sweetness of the rice paired well with the flavorful beef. The mini soba was also delicious and you can add tempura flakes from the self-serve station. The side dish today was shredded daikon and there was also complimentary pickles on the table. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

The nearest station is Osaka Metro Sakaisuji-Honmachi Station. I visited for a solo lunch on a weekday afternoon. I was seated at a table by the staff and ordered the Beef Soba Set for 860 yen (tax included). It arrived in about 10 minutes. The set included mini udon, a side dish, and pickles. The pricing was affordable and the portion was generous. I chose warm udon (cold soba was also an option). It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Honmachi to Shinsaibashi, Seiro steamed dish [3-chome, Minamikuhoujimachi, Chuo-ku]. Head east from the Minamikuhoujimachi 3-chome intersection on Midosuji and take the second street to the south, you will find Shin Koubai on the left side. Visited for lunch on the weekend with two people at 1:30 pm. We sat at a table on the first floor (there is also a second floor). Seasonal limited edition: Tai-meshi seiro with udon or soba (890 yen). My husband ordered the tako-meshi seiro with soba, and I ordered the tai-meshi seiro with soba. The steamers piled up in front of the counter. Although lunchtime peak has passed, the first-floor table seats are full, and there are also customers on the second floor. The food arrived 7 minutes after ordering. "Itadakimasu" - piping hot and freshly steamed. We started with the soba, which came in a mini size with a slice of kamaboko, a pinch of wakame and green onions. Adjusted the flavor with shichimi and tenkasu on the table. Feeling a bit off due to drinking too much sake the night before, the aroma of tai, shiso, and the steamer stimulated my appetite. The slightly burnt soy sauce mixed in well, creating a good balance. The portion was about two bowls of tea, and we were quite full after the meal. "Thank you for the meal."

It is located on Donbutsu Street between Honmachi and Shinsaibashi. I had always passed by thinking, "What is seiro steamed?" but decided to enter the restaurant when I saw the sign outside. It seemed like a steamed rice dish in a seiro. I ordered the seiro steamed dish and waited. While waiting, they brought me tea, pickles, and tempura. The rice was already warm, so it took about the time to prepare a set of soba. There was also a side dish of hijiki simmered, which was quite a generous portion. The rice in the seiro was piping hot, and the soba broth was delicious. There were also udon options. Since there were no male customers, I was worried about the portion size, but the amount of rice was filling. The staff's service was very pleasant. They even went to inform a customer who had ordered before me that their dish was being prepared, so I would have to wait a bit. It's only natural, but it's important to communicate with customers in such situations. Thank you for the meal!

On Tuesday, just after 12 o'clock, there was only one seat available at the counter on the first floor, so those who arrived later were guided to the second floor. The daily special was 750 yen including tax, and it was served in about 7-8 minutes. The portion looked quite substantial. The udon had a dark-colored broth that was not typical of Kansai style, and it wasn't spicy like in Kanto. Perhaps they also serve soba noodles? The udon noodles were chewy and hand-made, while the soba noodles were not mentioned. The chicken and green onions floating in the broth seemed to lack flavor. The mixed steamed basket contained rice cooked in a steamer, resulting in slightly firm rice. The tofu in the side dish was lightly seasoned, which balanced well with the strong flavors of the udon and steamed basket. The pickles in the jar were unlimited and might have been the most delicious part of the meal.

Chicken tempura set meal The chicken tempura was good but a bit lukewarm, maybe pre-made? The portion of rice was quite large, leaving me very full. I chose cold soba noodles, but was surprised by the small portion. The taste of the soba was okay, but I wish the set meal had a better balance. Thank you for the meal.

In Kansai region, it is common to see udon set meals served with mixed rice. The dashi broth is Kansai-style, giving the udon a deeper flavor compared to what I usually eat. The seasoning is rich, which is a characteristic feature. It was delicious.

I visited the restaurant during an odd time. Back in my OL days in this town, I used to dread being invited to the seiro shop by my senior. Now, I thought, "Seiro?" and decided to order the oyster seiro set. After about 10 minutes, it arrived with steam. The udon was on the softer side. The seaweed was a nice touch. The seiro looked darker than I expected. The flavor was well-seasoned with a good amount of salt. The seiro rice had some burnt parts, with firm rice, which I liked. I wonder if they steam the burnt rice in the seiro. The oysters were just placed on top, making a statement. I was pleased to see plenty of mitsuba. The total was 780 yen. Is it really that cheap? Thank you for the meal.

Visit date and time: 12:20 on a weekday Waiting time: None Menu: Seasonal limited edition Kaki-meshi (oyster steamed rice) with mini udon for 780 yen I couldn't get into the lunch spot I wanted to go to because it was full, so I wandered around. I happened to pass by this restaurant and decided to visit. The exterior of the restaurant looked like it had a long history. On this day, they had a seasonal limited edition Kaki-meshi with oysters. I ordered it right away. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The oysters were rich and concentrated with oyster essence. The rice was very delicious. It also came with mini udon and a side dish, so I left feeling satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

I casually entered the restaurant at lunchtime. The place seemed busy, and I was guided in a somewhat haphazard manner. I was thinking of ordering the set meal with seiro and udon noodles, but they only had salmon seiro available for the day, so I went with that. The udon noodles were just ordinary, with salmon flakes sprinkled on top of plain rice. The flavor was bland, serving more as a light meal to fill the stomach during lunchtime.

I had plans to go to Shinsaibashi PARCO, but I couldn't enter due to entry restrictions. After wandering around the city and becoming a lunch refugee, I stumbled upon this restaurant. It seems to be a steamed dish restaurant. The storefront has a nostalgic Showa era diner feel. The slightly worn-out showcase adds to the charm. It feels like a place I haven't visited in a while. Upon entering, I was seated at the counter. I ordered the steamed oyster and udon set (880 yen). The portion was generous. The flavor was a bit strong. The side dishes were delicious. The iced tea was refreshing in the heat. The staff was efficient and pleasant. Being a lunch refugee once in a while might not be so bad. Thank you for the meal.

I haven't been here in a while and decided to come back after a few years. I ordered the Asari Seiro from the service set. I chose soba over udon. In less than 10 minutes, the hot Asari Seiro arrived. I could smell the unique aroma of the seiro, which got me excited. The amount of clams was satisfying. I definitely want to come back here more often. [Lunch] - Service Seiro (Clams) ¥670

Today I had lunch here. I saw a review of Chimaki at Ban-san on MyRepi's party before noon, and it made me crave sticky rice, so I came here to eat their seiro steamed dish (*>∀<*). I missed the lunch rush, but since it's a holiday, there are still plenty of customers coming in, making the place bustling. I thought I would be seated at the counter, but they led me to a table instead. The customers coming in after me were seated on the second floor. In the kitchen, the owner is working alone, while downstairs the hostess is energetically managing things. I ordered the duck seiro rice and cold mini udon set. As you can see in the photo, it's served in the seiro basket. The duck, although only three slices, is very tender and you can taste the deliciousness of the duck. The sticky rice has absorbed the broth well, resulting in a very satisfying overall taste (´▽`*). For this price, the duck seiro is highly recommended (o^-^o). Thank you for the meal!

In the area around Osaka's Honmachi Station, there is a historic textile wholesale district called "Senba." As you walk through the alleyways in this area, you will come across signs for "seiro steamed dishes" here and there. Each of these shops exudes a sense of history with their traditional storefronts. It is unclear exactly how long these shops have been established, perhaps since the beginning of the Showa era or even earlier, but one thing is for sure - these seiro dishes are a historic food deeply rooted in the Senba area. This time, I decided to try out one of these shops, "Shinkoume." Just like its exterior, the interior of the shop has a nostalgic retro vibe. I ordered the weekly special set meal, "takomeshi seiro," which came with a mini udon for 760 yen. A very reasonable price indeed. The dish arrived promptly, and the hot "takomeshi seiro" looked delicious. I was curious about the takomeshi seiro, but I decided to start with the mini udon. The udon was thin and slightly soft, reminiscent of the noodles served at traditional udon shops in Osaka. It may not be like Sanuki udon, but it is a unique dish that represents Osaka. And now, the star of the show - the "takomeshi seiro." Being steamed in a seiro, the entire dish was warm and emitted a delightful aroma. I took a bite, and even though it was my first time trying it, it gave me a nostalgic feeling. It's hard to say if it was incredibly delicious, but it's the kind of meal that you wouldn't normally crave, yet it brings back a sense of nostalgia. So, as I enjoyed this nostalgic lunch, I couldn't help but imagine that the people of Osaka in the early Showa era, the merchants of Senba, might have also enjoyed this "seiro steamed dish."

I wanted something gentle to eat for lunch while hungover. I came to this place where they serve steamed dishes like udon, a carb-heavy meal. Today's special on the blackboard outside is "sea bream steamed dish." Sea bream sounds good! I opened the sliding door and was the first one there. The staff offered me a table instead of sitting at the counter. It's an old-fashioned noodle shop with a nostalgic feel. The lady serving us was brisk and brought us tea. The attentive and sincere service was a pleasant change from the casual service you often encounter at such places. I ordered the sea bream steamed dish and warm udon set for 760 yen (probably the daily lunch special price). It arrived quickly. Steam was rising gently from both the steamed dish and the udon. The sea bream steamed dish had flaked sea bream and mitsuba leaves on top. The rice was slightly firm, with a good flavor and a hint of burnt bits which I enjoyed. The udon had a strong dashi flavor, maybe a bit too salty. It seems like the same broth is used for both the udon and soba. The steamed dish was also flavorful, so I felt a bit thirsty. The side dish of hijiki seaweed was a nice touch, but also on the salty side. Well, let's get some zinc... Gradually, more and more customers started coming in, and the place quickly filled up. It seems like a place beloved by locals working nearby. It was a satisfying meal.

Nankyūhō-ji Aru Seiro mushi is a noodle shop known for its specialty dish of steamed seiro noodles. It has an old-fashioned soba restaurant atmosphere with stacked seiro baskets that give a nice touch. I ordered the "Beef Seiro + Mini Cold Udon" (tax included 860 yen). It took about 20 minutes for the seiro dish to be served, but the staff's service was good, so I patiently waited without getting frustrated. The beef seiro was served piping hot. The portion of beef was sufficient considering the price. The meat and the seasoning of the rice were both delicious. I am very satisfied ^^

The steamed rice bowl with octopus and mini udon set lunch allows you to choose between udon and soba noodles. The steamed rice bowl with octopus is recommended, and you can choose from two set lunch options. The rice version of the steamed rice bowl is delicious, even though it was my first time trying it. The udon noodles have a strong flavor. They also give out service coupons, so the salad is free from the second visit onwards.

On a holiday lunch series, heading north from Shinsaibashi towards Honmachi in the so-called Dobuike Street, I decided to visit the longstanding restaurant "Shinko Ume" after a few years. I arrived around 12:30, past the peak lunch hour, and found the place to be relatively empty, with only a few customers. Due to the impact of the coronavirus and the self-restraint from going out on holidays, the restaurant seemed less crowded. I ordered the limited-time offer of "Sea Bream Seiro with Mini Udon (Soba)" for 860 yen. The dish was served promptly, with the sea bream nicely flaked and served with hot rice and a side of cut dried radish and pickles. The soba noodles were served a bit later but were simple and delicious, with ingredients like fish cake, green onions, and seaweed in a light soy sauce broth. Despite the mass-produced nature of the soba noodles, the nostalgic atmosphere and flavors of the old-established restaurant were thoroughly enjoyed. It was a delightful dining experience.

[Store Name] Seiro Mushishinko Bai (Nan Kyuhouji-cho, Chuo-ku, Osaka, Osaka) [Ordered Dish] Salmon Seiro [Price] 910 yen (including tax) [Store Information] Despite knowing it was peak time, I entered around 12 o'clock. There were some empty seats, but it was almost full. It quickly became full and there was a waiting list. Customers kept coming in non-stop. [Overall Rating] - [Food] ★★★★☆ I tried the most popular dish, Salmon Seiro. It comes with seiro, mini udon or soba, a small side dish, and pickles. I chose soba and upgraded to a large size for an additional 50 yen. The seiro cannot be upgraded to a large size. The salmon was generously laid out in the seiro, with plenty of chopped seaweed, which I enjoyed. The salmon was tender and flavorful, with a gentle saltiness. The steaming process enhanced the natural flavor of the salmon and complemented the sweetness of the rice. The soba had tempura bits and shichimi pepper added. The broth was slightly strong, but balanced well with the salmon seiro. The small side dish was simmered hijiki, also flavorful and provided a nice contrast to the seiro. - [Menu] ★★★★☆ The lunch menu is extensive, especially the seiro dishes such as beef, octopus, duck, chicken, and eel. I am interested in trying the plum and whitebait seiro, and bibimbap seiro next time. They also offer udon, soba, and meat bowl options. The variety ensures that regular customers won't get bored. - [Service] ★★★★☆ Despite being busy, the staff were attentive to each customer. It was clear that the regulars were well-loved at this restaurant. They also provide a coupon for a free salad, making the lunch even more affordable. The daily special at 670 yen is quite reasonable. [Comments] I was drawn in by the charming atmosphere of the restaurant. It has a nostalgic feel and I really liked it. The interior had a nice traditional Japanese touch. There were even customers enjoying tempura and beer in the afternoon. I can see myself becoming a regular at this place.

Located near exit 11 of Honmachi Station on the Osaka Metro Chuo Line, this restaurant opened in 2000 and specializes in steamed dishes. The two-story building has a traditional Japanese appearance and features a variety of recommended dishes at the storefront. Inside, there are table seats as well as a counter. The menu includes ten types of steamed dishes and various set meals. I ordered today's special steamed dish, "Kakimeshi Seiro" (served with udon). The steamed dish with oysters was delicious, with the broth soaked in perfectly and the oysters being tender. The udon served as a soup substitute was also tasty. This dish is a specialty of the area, so if you haven't tried it yet, be sure to give it a taste.
