Late-night detour. I could have taken it out since I was just going to head home, but I wanted to have miso soup, so I decided to eat in. It's been about 10 years since I last visited Matsuya. When I first lived alone, there was a Matsuya next door, so for a few months until I had all the cooking utensils, I ate at Matsuya almost every day. I got tired of it eventually and started cooking on my own, but when I was thinking about the old house I used to live in, I suddenly felt like having the kalbi grilled meat set meal that I used to eat all the time back then. That particular store has already closed down, so I stumbled upon this one on my way home one day. It was a weekday late at night when the date had already changed, yet there were two customers before me and one after me, with a few more people trickling in. They had hand sanitizer at the entrance and movable acrylic panels between the seats for COVID-19 measures. I waited for a while, listening to the sizzling sound of the meat being grilled, and then the food was served. Huh? Was the meat always this thinly sliced? It was so thin that it could almost pass as toppings for a beef bowl... There was quite a bit of fat, and the chewy texture was nice, but as someone who used to order kalbi, it felt a bit lacking. However, they seemed to have increased the quantity by slicing it thinly, and the portion was sufficient. I was happy to see grated daikon still included ⸜( ´ ꒳ ` )⸝ I drizzled the sweet barbecue sauce over the meat, wrapped it in daikon, and had it with rice. The rice was slightly yellowish and a bit dry, which bothered me... Maybe the late-night hour wasn't the best choice. The meat was a bit sinewy (><) It's thin, so it's still edible, but... even after chewing a lot, there was a bit of difficulty in swallowing. I mentally counted down to when I should swallow as I continued eating. The salad that came with it was quite substantial, giving off a healthy vibe (*^^*) It's much more balanced than my own cooking (laughs). I had it with French dressing, and it was delicious. I love the finely chopped cabbage that has a crisp texture. I'm only avoiding it for health reasons, but it's not that I dislike all vegetables (I actually like leafy greens). However, if I had followed the veggie-first rule and eaten this first, the meat would have definitely gotten cold~ I seriously think that considering the amount of salad, it was a lot. So, I finished the meat and rice, then half of the miso soup, followed by the salad, and then the other half of the miso soup ☆ The miso soup had the same familiar taste, which was comforting. Among the miso soup ingredients, I really love the aburaage the most ( ◜ᴗ◝) Compared to back then (I think the kalbi grilled meat set meal was around 580 yen back in the ancient times lol), the prices have naturally increased due to inflation and tax hikes, but the taste has slightly decreased (tears). The meat is like a completely different thing. However, the cost-effectiveness, or rather, the presence and value of the side salad and miso soup, is appealing. The rice, if I had gone at a busier time, there's a high chance of getting a tastier one. I'd like to try the original beef curry, which, based on the sample photo, seems to be the type I like, thin and without any toppings (っ ‘ ᵕ ‘ c) Maybe it was because it was late at night, but all the sauce dispensers on the table were sparkling clean, giving off a sense of cleanliness and comfort. This is all thanks to the thoughtfulness of the staff (gratitude).
