Hayashi Gen
Rating: 3.03?
Another installment of the series of addictive restaurants with bad ratings (lol)
Hayashi Gen in Sumiyoshi
A yakiniku restaurant that is open until 2am, I occasionally visit this place!
They use a miso-based spicy sauce that I can't get enough of!
My go-to orders here are the beef intestines (senmai) and the beef tongue (tecchan)! The senmai can be eaten raw and is best when lightly seared! The tecchan is also incredibly delicious, with a tender and firm texture and just the right amount of fat!
I always end up eating three plates by myself!
This place isn't outstandingly delicious, but it has an addictive quality that makes me want to come back here multiple times a month!
Definitely worth a visit~
Although the rating on Tabelog is low, the taste is really good!

It was very cheap. The portion size was quite generous too! The cost performance is good. However, it's a bit disappointing that the staff were a bit unfriendly.

She was introduced to this restaurant by a friend and they always go together. The restaurant has only counter seats, so it's not ideal for a date, but it has a lively and cozy atmosphere. The food is also very delicious. Among them, the premium beef belly and salted beef tongue are a must-order! The premium beef belly has a good amount of marbling without being too fatty, making it very easy to eat with rice. The salted beef tongue is very thick yet incredibly tender and tasty. Plus, the portion size is generous, so they have been going there every two weeks recently.笑

When I was in elementary school, my father brought me here and I fell in love with their miso sauce. Even as an adult, when I feel tired, I come here for a solo barbecue party in the middle of the night, riding my bicycle. Thirty years ago, it felt very far away, but now it doesn't seem so bad. I am grateful to whoever came up with electric bicycles. The miso sauce here has an addictive deliciousness, like it contains some illegal drug. When I was in junior high, I could easily eat two bowls of rice with just this sauce. The restaurant, including the staff, seems to have stopped in time, remaining in the Showa era. I hope this place stays the same forever.

Solo Yakiniku. I used to have some resistance to it before, but recently it's not so bad. As you get older, your thick skin seems to make you care less about what others think. So, with my thick skin, I went to a certain yakiniku restaurant alone. The restaurant is called "Hayashi Gen," and it's a quaint yakiniku place near Sawanocho Station. It's located on a fairly large road, and I had passed by the front of the store many times before. I was curious about it for some reason. From the exterior of the store, I felt a somewhat appetizing atmosphere, as if you could eat delicious meat there. It's just a hunch, but my hunches tend to be quite accurate. Well, to be honest, my taste buds are already low level, so most things taste good to me! Anyway, when I entered the restaurant, it was surprisingly spacious, with a mainly counter seating layout, but there were also table seats in the back. The interior was cleaner than I expected. It's a restaurant that is easy to use whether you're alone or with others. I first ordered a beer at the counter seat and some raw tripe as a side dish. Drinking beer while nibbling on the chewy tripe was really delicious. Probably because it was fresh. It had a refreshing citrus-based sauce without any unpleasant smell. After the tripe, I ordered some yakiniku, I think it was heart and skirt steak. I enjoyed them with beer again. I left two or three pieces of meat and ordered a large portion of rice. I ate the meat with plenty of sauce and devoured the large amount of rice! It was so delicious that I thought my eyes would roll back. The rich sauce went well with the miso-flavored rice. Overall, it was a place where you could enjoy both the alcohol and the food. The cost performance was decent too. I think it's a restaurant worth checking out. If you have the chance, I recommend giving it a try!

This is a yakiniku restaurant that I visit about once a week, especially late at night. It's open until around 4 am, which is really convenient for me. Our usual order includes "salted tongue," "pork belly," "beef tripe," "upper skirt," and "pork belly," along with rice and miso soup or soup with egg or seaweed. I personally recommend the "pork belly" over the "skirt steak" because the meat is sweeter. Sometimes we also have "raw liver" and "pig's feet." The staff always warmly welcomes us even when we come late at night. It's my favorite place! They are open every day (maybe closed for just one day on New Year's). If you live nearby, you should definitely check it out! Also, their winter-exclusive "katsu soup" is really delicious! I pretty much visit this place every week. (laughs)

I have been going to this yakiniku restaurant since I was a child. The staff members change depending on the time of day, but they all seem to be relatives. They may not be the friendliest, but their service has a lot of character. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is filled with a nostalgic Showa era scent. The large menu hanging on the wall has been updated, but when you place an order, they take out the meat from the fridge, weigh it, marinate it, and cook it on a gas grill. The original miso sauce they serve with the meat is incredibly delicious! I have been to many yakiniku restaurants, but I have yet to find a sauce that surpasses the one they serve here. The prices of the meat are generally affordable, but there are some cuts that are quite expensive.

This is a familiar yakiniku restaurant that I have been going to for a long time. There are tables at the back, but I think at night it's counter seating only. The staff at the restaurant are really nice, and I wonder if it's a family-run business. They always strike up conversations and create a very friendly and homey atmosphere at this popular yakiniku restaurant. When I want to eat a hearty meal after work, I always come here. Recently, I went with some colleagues. My favorite items are the marbled beef heart and the root part of the senmai (tripe). Sometimes they run out late at night, so it's a lucky find if they have them available. The marbled heart is light and juicy with just the right amount of fat, while the senmai has a great texture that releases more flavor as you chew. The sauce is perfect for the meat, and if you like garlic, just ask the old man and he'll add it in for you! The meat tastes even better with this sauce. It's a lively and energetic place, open until 4 am, which is also a plus. The prices for items like the marbled heart and senmai are around 400 yen each. The pork belly and loin were also reasonably priced. Last time, we went with five people, had about five bottles of beer, some oolong tea, and ate a lot, and it came to around 18,000 yen. I will definitely be visiting again soon!

The taxi often stopped in front of the restaurant as it was open until late at night. The interior was tidy with a retro Showa atmosphere, and the meat quality varied. The frozen Tsurami and the Harumi without marbling had a slight smell even with miso sauce. However, the later ordered roast was tender with marbling and tasted good. The whole process at the counter was visible, which was a bit uncomfortable. When ordering soft drinks, they were taken out of the fridge and handed with a cup, which was a bit confusing. Overall, it was an okay restaurant.
