After an 11-year revisit, I brought yuri mochi as a gift. While I was there, I also tried the melon bread (¥152) with a sweet melon-flavored dough and sweet chocolate, perfectly balanced just before being too much. "Hey, milk!" The curry bread (¥162) was a deep-fried type, crispy on the outside and moist with oil. The curry was mild. The cheese bread (¥119) had plenty of cheese, not only on the top but also inside, with a strong acidity and a rich flavor. It had quite a presence. The gratin bread (¥119) had gratin inside and cheese on the outside, like a side dish bread. The béchamel sauce was rich, with plenty of shrimp, corn, and other ingredients. It was satisfying to eat. It was the complete opposite direction from the yuri mochi, and it was so unique that it was hard to believe they were from the same shop. The yuri mochi remained delicious as always. Overall, it was rated highly.

On the way from Motoheiwadai to Hakodate, I found a bakery in Otobe Town and decided to stop by. It's a bakery attached to a confectionery shop, and they have a wide variety of breads that attract customers one after another. I was kindly allowed to take photos of the bread. Thank you! The "Cheese Balm" (152 yen including tax) was a fluffy and soft bread filled with plenty of cream cheese. Delicious! The "Bacon France" (170 yen including tax) was a bacon epi bread with a good salty flavor. It was delicious! This bakery is really good at making tasty bread. I would like to try more different types of bread next time. Oh, and they also have Lily root sweets! Thank you, Tomikido!

Mame Shokupan 462 yen
While traveling from Esashi, I stopped by Tomikido in Otobe Town to buy Mame Shokupan. This bakery is a local favorite and whenever I'm nearby, I always make sure to visit. Their regular bread looks delicious, but they have a particularly tasty Mame Shokupan. If you try to buy it without pre-ordering, it's always sold out. So, I always call after 8 o'clock to reserve the number of loaves I want and let them know when I'll pick them up. This way, I always manage to get them. It would be a big disappointment to come all this way and not be able to buy them, so calling ahead is a must.

I didn't know that yuri (lily bulb) and otobe were local specialties, so I apologize for my ignorance. The yuri (lily bulb) senbei (rice cracker) I bought as a souvenir was delicious, with a moist texture. Thank you for the meal.

When I visited Otobe Town, I stopped by this confectionery shop to buy souvenirs for my family. This shop has been operating for about 40 years in Otobe Town, located in the southern part of Hokkaido. They are committed to using locally sourced ingredients for their confectionery making. In addition to sweets, they also sell bread, and it seems to be a shop loved by the locals. I purchased the famous "Yuri Senbei", which is made with lily roots produced in the town. It has an elegant taste and a smooth texture. Although it may not look flashy, this long-standing bestseller is undoubtedly a great souvenir choice.

I received it for the first time in a long time! The rare sweet red bean paste made with precious lily bulbs is indescribably unique and very delicious. It is made with simple ingredients without using unnecessary additives. I always think that the traditional sweets from long-established shops used to be larger in the past, but when I have it after a long time, I can't help but feel that they have become smaller (definitely). However, the taste remains unchanged. The refined and just right sweetness is truly the mark of a long-established shop! Perhaps it's unavoidable to maintain quality without changing the price (>_<)

In August 2013, as usual, I went to Otbu to fetch water. Fukido is popular, with three cars parked. I might buy some bread too. Everyone is buying bread, quite a lot of it. Today, there are no cakes, but plenty of bread. They must be focusing on bread because it sells well. There was something called Yuri Root Pie. I bought Pandome (300 yen), described as French bread dough. In December 2010, they made a manju using only lily roots, which had caught my interest. It is also sold at roadside stations, but I decided to visit the store. The interior of the store is larger in the bread section. They also have a few cakes. Since I had bought bread from a different store, this time I only got the Lily Manju. It costs 157 yen each, with no additives but containing oxygen absorbers, so it should last for about two months. It looks like it is modeled after lily flowers and roots, a small and cute confectionery about 5cm in diameter. For those who like bigger manju, one might not be enough. The sweetness is just right, with a subtle aroma unique to lily roots.

When passing through Otobe Town, I always end up stopping by if the shops are open. However, the shops are located near the intersection and it's difficult to find parking. The Yurinakagata is made separately for the root and stem parts, resembling the appearance of a lily bulb. It is a bit small and slightly expensive, but the sweet bean paste is made from 100% lily root, which is rare. The texture is chewy and sticky, with a delicious lily flavor. The Lily Root Pie also has a restrained sweetness and a filling that brings out the flavor of the lily root, resulting in a simple and delicious taste.

When I visited Otaru in 2010, I only took photos of the shops. It was a very hot day, and I didn't feel like trying the famous confectionery "Yurine Monaka," which I now regret. I haven't been able to revisit Otaru since then, which makes me sad. However, I found this at a souvenir shop in Sapporo Station. Yurine, it can't be from Otaru, right? But when I turned it over, it was from Tomiki-do! I bought half of what was available at the store. It seems to be quite a popular product, with some people even buying in bulk. It has a refined sweetness and you can also taste the unique bitterness of Yurine. Suddenly, I feel like going back to Otaru. I can't wait for spring to come.

Located facing National Route 229, this shop does not have a parking lot, making it less accessible by car. The name reflects the specialty of the shop, which is a monaka filled with 100% lily root paste. The size is not specified. The outer layer, resembling a wafer, is thin and crispy with no distinct flavor. The key component, the paste, is a high-viscosity, grayish-white color with a refined sweetness and a strong aroma. The lily roots are aged for a long time in low temperatures, resulting in a rich and distinctive flavor that blooms in your mouth. Priced at 157 yen per piece, it is not cheap but definitely worth trying. A friend who bought 15,000 yen worth of these treats went overboard, but I was intrigued by the "yuri anpan" which requires a reservation.

I saw yuri (lily root) manju and told my daughter that it's delicious. She said it looks delicious and expressed her interest in trying it. We both enjoy eating delicious food together. This manju made with 100% yuri root paste from Otobe Town is really good for its price. I always buy Otobe Town's yuri root when I see it at the supermarket, and I also enjoy cooking it myself. I once planted the sprout-like part left after peeling the yuri root, and it bloomed into a flower. I found it so endearing even after eating it. I remembered that and planted it again this year, and the sprouts are growing.

I received this as a souvenir. It's a "Yuri Senbei" made with the specialty product of Otobe Town, lily bulbs. The skin shaped like a lily flower is filled with a sweet white bean paste that is delicately flavored. It tastes very delicious when paired with green tea. The skin is crispy. Since it's a small size, even those who don't like very sweet things should be fine. It came in a very splendid box with 6 pieces, but it seems they also sell them individually. I would like to visit the store someday and purchase them.
