I visited "Okadaya," a restaurant located in Toyako-cho, Abuta District, Hokkaido. It took me about 20 minutes by car from the "Date Toll Gate" to get there. From the back of the restaurant, I could see Lake Toya clearly. The restaurant has several impressive wooden table seats, but the interior has a nostalgic atmosphere. This is a long-established store that has been in business for over 80 years. I ordered the "Toyako Shiruko" this time. It is a dish that combines Okadaya's famous "cold white shiruko" with "ohagi ice." First, I tried the "shiruko." It had a milky taste, was smooth, and had just the right amount of sweetness. The white rice cake that came in between was chewy and added a nice touch. Next was the "ohagi ice." Inside the sweet bean paste, there was a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The sweet bean paste had a traditional sweetness, but the vanilla ice cream had a light sweetness, so it was not overwhelming. It was a delicious meal.

I visited during my sightseeing at Lake Toya with about 30 minutes until the boat tour. It's about a 3-minute walk from the boat dock, a good distance. I tried the famous white oshiruko! It was a white oshiruko served with a mini daifuku, so delicious! The mochi in the mini daifuku was so soft, and the mini shiratama inside was chewy. It was a milk-based oshiruko, very gentle and sweet, and tasted really good! The hot oshiruko warmed my body chilled by the cold wind of Lake Toya. It was the best! I also had an amazake, which was less sweet. I would love to visit again to have the white oshiruko! Thank you for the meal!

I finally got to visit Okadaya, a place I've been curious about for a while. My wife had the Fruit Amazake with strawberries for 550 yen, while I had the "White Happiness" rice porridge for 500 yen. The Fruit Amazake with strawberries was surprisingly watery and bland, while the "White Happiness" rice porridge came in a cup with white rice porridge inside and a small store-bought snow-viewing daifuku on top. The daifuku was so small that it didn't really add anything to the dish. When trying to enjoy the contrast of warm rice porridge with the cold daifuku, the daifuku melted away into the distance like clouds. The rice porridge was just creamy and that's about it. It was a bit disappointing. Thank you for the meal.

Okadaya here is a famous shop in Lake Toya that catches your eye and makes you want to enter naturally when you come. I also tried their famous white oshiruko ✨✨✨ It is made with white beans and milk as the base. The gentle taste made my heart feel warm ✨ Inside the shop, there are splendid furniture that gives a sense of history, showing that it is a long-established shop. The staff were very kind and helpful ✨✨(*^^*) Such lovely little shops during travels leave a lasting memory ( ‘-^ )b✨

I had been curious about it for a while and before I knew it, almost 2 years had passed... I ordered the warm oshiruko with sweet red bean paste. It was very milky. I was hoping for more daifuku beans in the sweet red bean soup, but there was only one. There were plenty of soft white rice cakes. Next time, I would like to try the cold oshiruko with ice cream from Makiya-san in the warmer season. Thank you for the meal.

First visit in search of white oshiruko! Since I came to Lake Toya, I had to try the white oshiruko! I decided to go to Okadaya (*´꒳`*) I ordered the cold white oshiruko for 550 yen and the matcha affogato for 550 yen! I think I might prefer the matcha affogato over the white oshiruko that can only be eaten at Lake Toya (^◇^;) lol But I enjoyed both dishes♫

I had been curious about the white oshiruko made with Hokkaido white bean paste as a base, with fresh milk from "Makke" added. I love white bean paste. While strolling through the hot spring town and admiring the old buildings, I decided to try the white oshiruko here. The shop was about to close, but they welcomed me warmly. The warm white oshiruko felt even warmer with the thick texture of the white bean paste. Surprisingly, the gentleness of the milk paired well with it. It was a good choice to eat.

I arrived at Lake Toya at noon. It's a popular tourist spot, so the restaurants seem to be crowded. I decided to stop by Okadaya near the sightseeing boat pier, which is known for its white sweet red bean soup, but they also serve lunch. They offer dishes like curry, but being in Hokkaido, I tried the herring rice bowl for 1100 yen. I didn't have to wait long before my order arrived. The bowl came with two pieces of sweet simmered herring and miso soup. The flavor of the mountain pepper really stands out. The simmered herring is different from the filleted herring you might find in Kansai, as it is softer and you can eat the bones as well. It may not look fancy, but it was quite good and more affordable compared to other restaurants.

I finally visited Lake Toya and tried the white oshiruko as recommended by others. I had both the cold and hot versions. The cold one was like white rice cakes, milk, and ice cream, while the hot one was like hot milk with white rice cakes. It was made with white bean paste, but I personally prefer red bean paste oshiruko. Thank you for the meal.

I stopped by here while on a business trip in the area. There didn't seem to be any other shops around... Tourist spot food is usually not that great, right? Overpriced and low quality... But this place is different! I ordered the herring bowl. Two pieces of sweet simmered herring were elegantly placed on top of the rice, sprinkled with sansho pepper. It came with miso soup and pickles for 1,000 yen. Are they kidding me? Two pieces of herring for this price? Well, the taste was just average, the sweet simmered herring. But seriously, why herring in Lake Toya? Even though I ordered it myself. Anyway, I won't be coming back to this place. They also had some white soup? I didn't try it, so I don't know if it's good, but I won't be going back (laughs). Wow, what a great business! So much demand from inbound tourists! I'm envious! Wait, could it be that Lake Toya has become a high society place where commoners like me visiting is considered inappropriate?

At Lake Toya's "Okadaya" you can try their "White Oshiruko"! They skillfully blend Hokkaido milk and mochi beans to achieve this pure white color! It has a very milky texture, with a hint of sweet red bean paste lingering in the aftertaste. They offer both warm and cold options! It was a wonderful memory from my trip to Hokkaido! I would love to go back again if I have the chance!

I came to sightsee, so I wanted to try something local. I had the pickled herring rice bowl for 900 yen and the white sweet porridge for 400 yen. The pickled herring, sweetly cooked, went well with the rice. Personally, as a young person, I wish there was more rice, but the meal was delicious. The white sweet porridge was more milky than traditional porridge, but it was tasty.

I ordered the scallop curry with scallop adductor from Fukabori Bay. I wandered around the Toyako Onsen town looking for a place to eat, and ended up choosing this restaurant. Later I found out that this place is known for its delicious red bean soup, so that's something to try next time.

When I visited Lake Toya Onsen, I tried the sweet shop called Shiroi Oshiruko and had their oshiruko (sweet red bean soup with rice cake). They had both cold and hot options, and since I had ice cream in my zenzai (sweet red bean soup with rice cake) at the hotel last night, I ordered the hot one.

This restaurant is famous for its white oshiruko (sweet red bean soup). Although I didn't try it because I was there for lunch, I did have the meat udon, which was delicious with a light-colored broth similar to Kansai-style. There aren't many food options around Lake Toya, so I recommend this restaurant for those looking for lunch. They also offer a hearty portion of katsu curry.
