This day, I had back-to-back meetings from the morning and before I knew it, it was already past 2:30 pm. Lunchtime had long passed and I was feeling hungry, wondering what to do for lunch. Then I remembered this place and decided to visit it right away.
1. Exterior, atmosphere, interior of the restaurant
Located about a 6-minute walk from Higobashi Station, this small restaurant can be easily identified by the handwritten menu on the street or the purple flag (indicating udon). The interior has only 10 counter seats, with enough distance between them for a comfortable dining experience. The casual atmosphere is bright and clean, making it welcoming for solo female diners.
2. About the food
Although the menu is extensive, being a first-time visitor, I ordered the "Magokoro Udon" that the restaurant is known for. Since it was very affordable on its own, I also ordered the "Chicken Tempura" as an addition. The udon and chicken tempura are cooked to order, so it takes some time. After about 10 minutes, the udon and chicken tempura were served. The "Magokoro Udon" came with 2 chicken meatballs, green onions, and maple leaf fu, making it quite luxurious for the price. The dashi broth was well-balanced and comforting, with a gentle flavor. The smooth and slippery texture of the noodles was chewy and elastic. Although the noodles were not very firm, the balance with the broth and toppings made it enjoyable. The homemade meatballs were soft and juicy. The chicken tempura was freshly fried, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. It was well-seasoned and delicious even without any additional sauce. With everything combined, the portion was sufficient and I was full.
3. Staff service
A female staff member was handling the customer service alone. She greeted me, guided me to my seat, and provided polite and friendly service. There were two male staff members in the kitchen, working diligently, but they also greeted me cheerfully when I left. There were no particular issues that caught my attention.
4. Cost performance
With carefully prepared bonito dashi, delicious broth, chewy udon, and homemade meatballs, all for 550 yen, I think it's very reasonable. The bright atmosphere of the restaurant and the friendly staff service also added to the positive experience. Overall, considering everything, I believe the cost performance is good.
5. Other observations
Next time, I would like to try the "Salt Onigiri" as well.
