I finished work early, so I decided to have dinner around Hakata Station before heading home. I decided to visit Hakata Deitos, where I found a restaurant I had been wanting to try. It's a famous non-pork bone ramen and fried rice shop in Kawabata Shopping Street. It had been over 6 years since I last visited when I lived in Ehime. I arrived at the restaurant around 19:15, with about 3 people in line at the ticket machine. There seemed to be plenty of seats inside, so I joined the line. I bought my meal ticket at the machine and handed it to the staff. I ordered the ramen and half fried rice set with a seasoned egg. The staff informed me that I could choose miso, salt, or soy sauce for the ramen, and I chose miso. The restaurant had many customers at both the table and counter seats. I was seated at the counter and waited for my order. The miso ramen arrived in about 5 minutes, followed by the half fried rice. The miso ramen soup was delicious, with a mild and flavorful taste from the pork bone and chicken broth base. The noodles were medium-thin and curly, a rare find in Kyushu, and had a chewy texture. The chashu was slightly thin but tender and juicy. The seasoned egg had a rich, runny yolk. Other toppings included bamboo shoots, green onions, bean sprouts, onions, and more. The half fried rice was also delicious, with a light and fluffy texture and simple yet flavorful ingredients. It paired well with the miso ramen. I quickly finished my meal, understanding why the restaurant was so popular. It wasn't just because they offered unique miso and salt ramen in Kyushu, but because the food was genuinely delicious. I later found out that the special ramen had a richer flavor, so I regretted not trying it. Next time, I'll go for the special ramen and half fried rice set or the salt butter ramen. As a side note, I remembered watching the Fukuoka International Marathon while visiting a shop in Kawabata Shopping Street. I saw the lead group of 6 runners pass by around the 20km mark, with only Japanese runner Yuki Kawauchi among them. Despite running with an injury, he finished in 3rd place. It was impressive, and it made me proud of Fukuoka. The meal cost me 1220 yen, a bit pricey but worth every yen for the delicious food. I'll definitely come back again.
