For lunch on this day, I went to a newly opened shop called Senta near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. On the way there, I passed by a shop I had visited before. Many people review the warabi mochi here, but I personally like the "Torori" - a Japanese-style pudding made with milk, cream, and kudzu. It comes in three flavors: matcha, kinako, and black sesame. It's priced at 300 yen each, which is reasonable. However, they don't make a lot of them and they sell out quickly, so I asked if I could reserve some (since they need to be refrigerated). They kindly agreed. This time, I ordered matcha and kinako flavors to enjoy with my husband after dinner. When I went to pick them up, there were hardly any Torori left. I was glad I had reserved them! The surface has a slightly firm texture, but the inside is creamy. Each flavor is subtly sweet, allowing you to enjoy the natural flavors of the ingredients. This chilled sweet treat didn't feel heavy even after dinner. While the warabi mochi is good, the Torori is delicious. Thank you for the meal!

While sightseeing in Kyoto, I suddenly craved warabi mochi. I called around 3 pm during the Obon holiday and asked if they still had any. The staff cheerfully replied, "Yes, we do!" Their response made me want to visit the shop immediately. When I arrived, I believe it was the same staff member who answered the phone, and they were very kind. They even gave me a little extra. The warabi mochi was incredibly soft and fluffy. You can choose from kinako, hojicha, or matcha flavors. I bought the smallest size for 400 yen and it was gone in no time. It was a last-minute find, but I'm so glad I bought it here. I will definitely be a repeat customer. (Note: This shop only offers takeout, no dining in).

Warabi mochi from Kyoto Kitano - Neriyahachibee
Warabi mochi (16 pieces) for 800 yen. I had been curious about this place since it was closed last time I visited, so I made sure to stop by this time. It's a small shop, but it seems to have been featured in various media. My family enjoyed the delicious warabi mochi. Thank you for the meal.

I took a bus from Sanjo Station and leisurely enjoyed Kyoto. I visited a warabimochi shop that I had been curious about for a while. The shop is run by one person and seems to be quite busy with deliveries. Despite that, they make incredibly delicious warabimochi. I have nothing but respect for them. I will definitely visit again when I come back to Kyoto.

Dr. Fujisaki Shinichi, the head of BODYPIT KYOTO, received a delicious treat from a patient - warabi mochi from Renya Hachibei, with kinako and matcha flavors. It was irresistible! The warabi mochi from this shop is truly the best. Thank you very much.

I visited @neriyahachibei in Shiraume-cho, Kita-no-Kyoto and tried their delicious natural black kudzu mochi with a sticky and elastic texture. The black kudzu mochi (serves 3-5 people) costs ¥3,800 (tax included) and has a unique expiration time of 6 hours! Made with rare black kudzu powder from Akita prefecture, this mochi loses its distinctive stickiness and chewiness over time, hence the 6-hour expiration limit. The mochi was incredibly delicious with a firm elasticity and sticky texture. It is recommended to eat it as is, but you can also sprinkle it with kinako, matcha, or hojicha powder. The kudzu mochi with 16 pieces (Uji hojicha and Uji matcha) costs ¥800 and is soft and chewy. They also offer a silky smooth egg-free pudding made with kuzu, milk, and cream for ¥300. The owner is very friendly and the service is excellent. This popular shop in the Kitano area of Kyoto is definitely worth a visit when you're in the area.

■A shop that sells Warabi mochi made by carefully kneading small amounts of rare domestic black Warabi flour in a kettle to create a Warabi mochi that combines both stickiness and firmness. I had tried it a few years ago and it was delicious, so this time I got the matcha and hojicha flavors for takeout!
■Takeout
- Warabi mochi (16 pieces) Kyoto Kinako, Uji Matcha 800 yen (tax included)
- Warabi mochi (6 pieces) Hojicha 400 yen (tax included)
The mochi is black because it uses black Warabi, and when you eat it, it is very soft and chewy. It is both soft and elastic, making it truly chewy and bouncy. When you take out the Uji Matcha, the scent of matcha immediately wafts out, and when you sprinkle extra Uji Matcha powder, the fragrance intensifies, and you can feel a moderate astringency. The hojicha flavor allows you to experience a simple taste while feeling the chewy texture.

Today, I visited a shop in the direction of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and stopped by my favorite "warabi mochi" shop.
Kyoto Kitano - Neriya Hachibei is a popular shop that uses domestically produced black bracken flour to make warabi mochi. They also sell pudding at the storefront. The staff, who seemed very friendly and artisanal, provided great customer service.
You can choose from three flavors of warabi mochi: Kyoto kinako, Uji matcha, and hojicha. You can purchase a simple packaged warabi mochi starting from 400 yen. When you place your order, the staff goes to the back of the shop to cut and wrap the warabi mochi for you.
The Uji matcha warabi mochi, made with black bracken, comes with Uji matcha powder and black honey. The chewy warabi mochi is generously portioned. Sprinkle the matcha powder on top, drizzle with black honey, and enjoy. The chewy warabi mochi is delicious. The combination of matcha's bitterness and black honey's sweetness creates a delightful flavor. Adding more matcha powder enhances the matcha flavor even more. The combination of warabi mochi and matcha is surprisingly good! This was my first time trying this combination, and it was even more delicious than I expected.

Today, I visited a popular warabi mochi shop near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Kyoto Kitano - Neriyahachihei uses rare domestic black warabi flour to make their warabi mochi, which has been selected as one of the best sweets on Tabelog in 2013 and 2014. Inside the shop, they had a variety of warabi mochi and pudding products on display. The highest quality black warabi mochi made with 100% domestic black warabi seems to be made to order. They also had a more casual warabi mochi option that is not 100% made with black warabi. You could choose from three different types of kinako: "Kyoto kinako," "Uji matcha," and "hojicha." The 6-piece pack had one flavor, while the 16-piece pack allowed you to choose up to two flavors. I tried the "Kyoto kinako" flavor, which had a chewy and unique texture that was very enjoyable. I also bought the "hojicha" flavor, which is said to be hard to find elsewhere. The non-100% black warabi mochi has a shelf life of two days and is recommended to be chilled before eating. The mochi is black due to the use of black warabi, and the bouncy texture is irresistible. The innovative hojicha flavor was delicious. I look forward to trying the 100% black warabi mochi next time. As a fan of warabi mochi, I definitely want to visit this shop again.

I visited "Kyoto Kitano Renya Hachibei," famous for its warabi mochi that I had been curious about for a while. Last time I went, the shop was closed, so this time was my revenge! Fortunately, it was open this time. I bought a pack of 6 warabi mochi and Uji matcha for 400 yen. They packed it for me after I placed the order. When I got home, I opened it right away! The warabi mochi was beautifully arranged with separate packets of black honey and extra matcha. The mochi was chewy and bouncy, with a nice texture, and it was delicious! You can taste the good bitterness of the matcha too. The combination of the sweetness of the warabi mochi and the bitterness of the matcha makes it irresistible. I'm curious about the black warabi mochi made to order by weight starting from 100g, so I would like to go back to buy it as a souvenir or something.

Discovered a delicious warabi mochi shop in the neighborhood! After visiting Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, I took a different route home and stumbled upon a warabi mochi shop I had seen on TV before! I couldn't believe it was so close by (laughs). I chose two types of warabi mochi, with matcha and kinako flavors. I'd like to try hojicha next time. It was incredibly delicious.

There is a very expensive and short shelf life warabi mochi that caught my interest. In the past, I had some difficulties bringing back warabi mochi on the Shinkansen train, with them sticking together or the kinako powder getting messy. So, when I heard about this highly praised warabi mochi that seemed easy to transport, I decided to give it a try. The price was 3800 yen for 500g (enough for five people), which is quite expensive. But since it was the end of the year, I made a reservation in advance and had my family in Kyoto pick it up for me. The shop was located near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, and it was the only shop open in the area due to the year-end season. The shop used black hon warabi from Akita Prefecture, which was explained by the shop owner, an elderly couple. The warabi mochi was very black and sticky, making it difficult to transfer to another container. It had a unique texture and flavor, and it was served with three types of kinako powder and black syrup. Despite the initial struggle, the warabi mochi turned out to be delicious and enjoyable. I also wanted to try their pudding "torori" on another day. Overall, it was a fascinating experience, and I recommend trying it out.

Today's visit was to Kyoto Kitano Renya Hachibei. Located near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto, Kyoto Kitano Renya Hachibei is a specialty store for traditional Japanese sweets. The area near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is filled with renowned traditional Japanese sweet shops, despite having few dining options. Kyoto Kitano Renya Hachibei is tucked away in a residential area. The specialty of Kyoto Kitano Renya Hachibei is warabi mochi, made using 100% domestically produced black bracken and the highest quality bracken. Visited around 2pm on a Monday. This is a takeout-only shop specializing in warabi mochi. I purchased a 16-piece set of warabi mochi. You can choose 2 out of 3 flavors: matcha, hojicha, or kinako. I chose matcha and kinako. The expiration date is short, only 2 days, so I felt a bit rushed to eat them. However, once I tried them, I couldn't stop. They come with black syrup, which is delicious to dip them in, but they are also tasty on their own. I don't think they are suitable for eating on the go, so it's best to enjoy them in a calm place where you can savor the flavors.

Before returning to Hotel Amaneku Kyoto, I stopped by the famous wagashi shop, Renya Hachibei, known for its warabi mochi. I planned to buy some warabi mochi as souvenirs. There are many long-established wagashi shops around here, so it's hard to decide where to go. I bought three types: Uji matcha, Kyoto kinako, and black sesame. I opened them in my hotel room right away. Hmm... they are all really well-made. These warabi mochi are delicious. It's great that there are three different flavors. I also reserved the black honwarabi mochi with a shelf life of 6 hours. I'm looking forward to picking it up tomorrow. I'm so excited!

I stopped by on my way to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The specialty is a pudding called "torori." When I arrived in the evening, it was already sold out. I had the remaining warabi mochi with matcha and regular flavors mixed. The interior of the store could use some maintenance to be honest... Although it's just for buying, the quality of the interior can make a big impression. I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to buy the warabi mochi, but I would like to try the torori.

In November 2019, I visited Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. After paying my respects and exploring the momiji garden, I enjoyed some Awamochi at Sawaya and then headed to Renya Hachibei. I was hoping to try their warabi mochi, but it was already past 1 pm and there was no line outside the store, so I was worried they might be sold out. I peeked inside and saw that there were still some left. I decided to go in and found two flavors available: hojicha and kinako. I bought a pack of each, along with kinako and kuromitsu toppings. The warabi mochi made with black bracken had a delightful chewy and soft texture. While both flavors were delicious, I personally preferred the hojicha one for its nutty aroma. I would love to try the matcha flavor next time, along with their pudding. Overall, it was a great experience with friendly service from the owner.

After eating the mochi from Sawaya, I decided to stop by here as well because the reviews on Tabelog were good. I got a takeout of warabi mochi. The pudding also looked delicious, but it was already sold out, so I only bought the warabi mochi. The expiration date was until the next day, and I was told it's best to eat it chilled, so I had it at my hotel the next day. The texture was jelly-like and smooth, with an exquisite taste. The shop looked quite old from the outside and had a somewhat lonely atmosphere, but the taste was delicious. It would be nice if the interior of the shop was a bit more stylish. I would like to try the pudding next time.

Souvenir series Kyoto edition. A shop in a back alley near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto. I stopped by because it had high ratings on Tabelog. I bought a box of 16 pieces of warabimochi for 800 yen. When I got back home, I tried it. The box contains 16 pieces divided into two sets of 8 pieces each. One set is kinako (roasted soybean flour) flavor, and the other set is matcha flavor. Each set comes with a separate packet of kinako or matcha powder. Additionally, there is a packet of kuromitsu (black sugar syrup). When I tasted it, it was delicious! The warabimochi is chewy and melts in your mouth. The kinako and matcha powder are also delicious. I thought the warabimochi would be topped with kinako, but I was surprised. It's an amazing warabimochi. The price is also reasonable.

Visited the shop after reading a souvenir guidebook. The shop had many magazines featuring it. I ordered the warabi mochi with kinako for 400 yen. It was freshly cut and delicious even without adding the kinako powder.
