At work, I finally managed to put together a document that I had been working on for over 10 years. It was a relief to finally get it done. I also finished preparing for a long business trip this year. This weekend, I felt no pressure at all, which was a rare occurrence in the past 12 years. Today is a pressure-free anniversary day! I want to enjoy a fun weekend with my favorite drive. I invited my wife to go on a drive with me. My beloved car is 27 years old, a coupe type, almost stock. We headed to Rumoi from Asahikawa, where there is a highway all the way to Rumoi city. It's my first time driving all the way to Rumoi. I looked up places to eat and places with a view of the sea before going. I decided on this place called "Jyanome Sushi" for sushi. It seemed quite popular, and there were already many cars parked when we arrived. The line in front of the restaurant had about 10 people waiting. I'm not a fan of waiting in line, but since it was my pressure-free anniversary, I found waiting in line enjoyable. We entered the restaurant, had our temperature checked, sanitized our hands, and were seated at a table on the first floor. The table was separated, which made it comfortable. I had already decided on the premium sushi set, and it was delicious. You could upgrade the miso soup to fish head soup for a small fee, so I did. My wife kept the regular miso soup. The sushi set arrived in about 15 minutes, 13 pieces in total! It was quite a lot. I started with the white fish, which was surprisingly flavorful and had a good texture. The sushi was almost flat but had a softness that melted in the mouth, with just the right amount of vinegared rice. Next was the crab. It was a bit small, but the flavor was delightful. I decided to try the fish head soup. It was delicious, but the flavor was so rich that I needed to reset my palate with tea before continuing with the sushi. The staff quickly brought a teapot for refills. The next piece was sweet shrimp. Even though there were 13 pieces in total for 3,300 yen (tax included), I wished the shrimp were a bit larger, but the taste was excellent. It was a delightful surprise. I continued eating and finished with sea urchin, salmon roe, and fatty tuna. The fatty tuna was exceptionally delicious, and the sea urchin had a homemade feel to it. Sea urchin is my favorite, and this one was amazing. I carefully prepared it before eating, enjoying the rich flavor. The meal was fantastic, and I let out a big sigh of satisfaction at the end. I definitely want to visit this restaurant again. The price of 3,300 yen (tax included) was surprisingly cheap. The checkout line was long, but the staff handled it with smiles and excellent service. It was a delightful pressure-free anniversary day. It was the best lunch experience. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Visited for lunch on the way back from sightseeing in Wakkanai. Easy to find with parking right next to the restaurant. The wait time was shorter than expected, and we were seated in a private room as the second group. It was a bit disappointing that the counter seats were removed after the renovation. Ordered the special sushi set with 21 pieces for 3,980 yen (limited to 10 sets per day) and shared it with a companion along with the Hanakago set for 2,000 yen. The special sushi set is also available for 8,300 yen, so it felt like a good deal. Next time, I plan to try the Jyanome set for 2,500 yen, which includes sushi, tempura, soba, salad, and chawanmushi. Prices are excluding tax.

In the midst of a scorching heat, I went to Rumoi by the seaside. The coast was slightly cooler than inland. I ordered the special recommended by Mr. Jyanome. Well, everything was delicious, but in the summer, the sea urchin was served fresh. It wasn't marinated in saltwater, so it was even fresher and very tasty. I was satisfied. I also tried the Jyanome Chirashi, and with chirashi sushi, you can really appreciate the deliciousness of the vinegar rice and the toppings. The miso soup that came with it was made with sweet shrimp from Motomoe. The soup itself was delicious, but when I sucked on the head of the shrimp, I was surprised by the creamy taste.

I drove to Rumoi and visited the restaurant Jyanome-san, which I had always wanted to try. I couldn't decide between the Daimyo nigiri and the Jyanome Special, but since it was a special occasion, both of us went for the Jyanome Special. It was an impressive platter of 21 different sushi pieces. We added miso soup for an extra 200 yen. We exchanged the pieces we couldn't eat with each other and tried them out. The vinegared rice was slightly larger than usual, and while I could easily finish 21 pieces of sushi at a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, this time I was quite full! The variety of fish included white fish, tuna, shellfish, salmon roe, and flying fish roe, making it a fun experience deciding what to eat next. I traded shrimp and salmon roe for sea urchin and mackerel. Considering the quantity and variety of sushi, I think it was a good value for money. The staff were also very friendly. Thank you for the delicious meal!

After camping in Takikawa, the children wanted to eat seafood, so we extended our trip to Rumoi. The sushi and seafood bowls were delicious. The children devoured the zangi in no time. Thank you for the wonderful meal! 🌟 Photo taken with iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I visited this restaurant in Rumoi for the first time, as the independent baseball league in Hokkaido was being held there. We arrived without a reservation and were seated right away. The menu had many delicious options, but I decided to go with the ikura donburi, which was filled with my favorite ikura. The dish looked beautiful and was very filling. The ikura was fresh and flavorful, satisfying my taste buds. I was so full that I couldn't try other dishes, but my companions enjoyed their meals. I would love to come back and try more dishes in the future. Even though I had a little mishap with an ebi's antenna getting stuck in my throat while eating the miso soup that came with the set, it was delicious and didn't cause any problems.

This shop is located in Rumoi City, Hokkaido. I visited at 6:00 PM to avoid the lunch rush. There were 4 groups waiting. I thought it wasn't too crowded, but ended up waiting for 50 minutes to be seated. And just before being seated, they mentioned it would take some time... it's going to be a 2-hour course, I thought! The "Jyanome Special" costs 3,980 yen (4,378 yen with tax). Since I visited during off-peak hours, it was quite empty. - 7:13 PM: Still waiting for the food, so I'll write as if it's a live report. - 7:20 PM: Went to the restroom and accidentally opened the sliding door of another customer's room, they were surprised. - 7:25 PM: Feels like there aren't enough staff. - 7:30 PM: Getting sleepy. - 7:32 PM: Food arrived. - 7:50 PM: Finished eating. Overall, I was surprised by the variety of dishes, but they were quite thin. Please refer to the photos to judge for yourself.

I was guided to a spacious restaurant with semi-private table seats separated by partitions. I ordered the fresh sea urchin bowl with two kinds of sea urchin (Murasaki sea urchin from Rumoi and Bafun sea urchin from Rebun), which is a must-try during this season. The Bafun sea urchin was incredibly delicious. I ordered the medium size, which was sufficient unless you have a big appetite. I also had plum sushi. The sea urchin bowl was around 5,000 yen, and the sushi was around 2,300 yen. Please note that the menu prices are excluding tax.

I ordered the great value limited edition 10-piece sushi set. Although the seafood bowl is famous, I opted for the sushi due to an upcoming event. We had a fun time deciding who gets to eat which sushi through rock-paper-scissors. We ended the night with a toast using dice. Such a fun night in Rumoi!

The price is not high but not exactly cheap either. The Snake Eyes Set (2,500 yen) was ordered this time. It includes 6 pieces of sushi, cucumber roll salad, mini soba, chawanmushi, and tempura (2 shrimp, squid, asparagus). The sushi was delicious, especially the white fish which was fatty and tasty. Personally, I prefer the rice to be a bit softer, but that's just my preference. The tempura was well-fried, crispy and light. The soba served as a clear soup substitute. The chawanmushi was light and elegantly seasoned. Overall, for 2,500 yen, it's not bad. It would be even better if the staff had more smiles, as the service is a bit lacking. Next time, I'll try the chef's choice sushi!

It had been a while since I visited Rumoi. I arrived right when the restaurant opened. The interior had been renovated since my last visit in 2019. Previously, there was a counter on the left side and seating in the back, but now there were private rooms lined up with no counter in sight. Ordering had also changed to using tablets. I noticed that the Special set was now limited to 10 servings and priced at 3980 yen. It seems like prices have gone up significantly, considering it was 2500 yen in 2018 and 2700 yen in 2019. However, when the 21-piece sushi set arrived, it was truly impressive. The Otoro was delicious, the scallop was huge, the sea bream was thick and tasty, the flounder and tuna were good, and there were popular items like salmon roe, flying fish roe, shrimp, squid, ark shell, surf clam, and more. The squid had a nice texture, the octopus was tasty as it's a local specialty, the shirako was fresh, the crab was shredded and served in a battleship style, and there was a shiny fish that resembled horse mackerel which was delicious. The sea urchin was not raw but salted, which was unique, and there were local sweet shrimp, egg, and more carefully selected by the chef. The rice was elegantly flavored and sized, making it easy to enjoy all 21 pieces. While the current price may seem high compared to the past, the quality and variety of the sushi make it worth it, providing a sense of having tasted all that Hokkaido has to offer.

"I arrived at this restaurant after watching the sunset at Ogon Misaki, known as the best sunset spot in Japan. This is my second visit, as I also came here in May 2019. I first found out about this place through the Hokkaido edition of the touring map, which mentioned it as a reasonably priced sushi restaurant. The store has been renovated, with the traditional tatami seating now replaced by table seating. I ordered the same Toro Maguro bowl and homemade tofu as last time, but couldn't find the sake I had before, so I tried the Shikuwasa juice instead. The Toro Maguro bowl tasted just as delicious as I remembered, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The homemade tofu had a great texture and was very tasty. One of the reasons for this trip was to ride the Rumoi Main Line from Ishikari Numata to Rumoi before it closes at the end of this month, but I also came to Rumoi to enjoy the sunset at Ogon Misaki and the gourmet food. The friendly service from the staff, including a cheerful waiter from India who handled the bill, was also a nice touch. Thank you for the delicious food and service."

I arrived before the opening aiming for the special. I immediately placed my order using the touch panel, and 20 minutes after opening, the special was sold out. The sea urchin, conger eel, lean tuna, fatty tuna, prawn, crab, and octopus were all delicious. The squid was chewy, perhaps because it was fresh. I asked for less rice, but even with 21 pieces, I was full. Thank you for the meal.

When I revisited Rumoi where I used to live, I had a seafood bowl at a famous sushi restaurant. It was summer vacation, so there were many customers waiting, but they called us on our phone when our turn was near, so we wandered around nearby shops while waiting. The seafood bowl was delicious, with all the ingredients fresh and tasty. I chose the more expensive option, so it included delicious fatty tuna. Especially the sea urchin had no bitterness, just a rich umami flavor that changed my perception of sea urchin. The shrimp had a fun texture, and the local specialty herring roe was crunchy and delicious.

Today in Rumoi, the weather was nice and hot. For lunch, I went to a sushi restaurant a little away from the station. It was crowded with reserved customers. I had a table in a raised tatami area and enjoyed a bamboo sushi set. It included 10 pieces such as fatty tuna, sea bream, sweet shrimp, live abalone, ark shell, snow crab, tuna, salmon, herring roe, and salmon roe, with shrimp miso soup. The set was very fulfilling. My favorites were the ark shell and abalone, which included sea urchin from Rebun Island. Among them, the Venus Drop sea urchin is very expensive. I also tried a small side dish. The horse dung sea urchin, made without alum or salt water, had a natural flavor. It was rich and delicious.

Trained at the renowned restaurant Tsukiji Jōnuma in Nihonbashi, the current owner of Sushi Jōnuma received a special recommendation in the 2012 Michelin Guide for Hokkaido. With limited accommodation options in Rumoi, I decided to stop by for lunch at Jōnuma before heading to Sapporo to catch the sunset at Cape Ogon. The main reason for visiting Rumoi is to enjoy the sunset view at Cape Ogon and the unique experience of dining at Jōnuma. We were able to walk in for lunch without waiting on a weekday. Looking at the menu, there was no reason to choose anything else! We opted for the overwhelming 21-piece sushi set. Due to a shortage of sea urchin this year, we were served a simmered abalone sushi as a substitute. Honestly, it paled in comparison to sea urchin... Each piece of sushi was generously sized, including the rice portion. Those with small appetites, especially women, may struggle to finish the 21 pieces. I'm glad I have a hearty appetite. I almost ordered another set. The staff were attentive and made our dining experience very pleasant. A must-visit restaurant in the Rumoi area when heading that way.

In Rumoi, there is a sushi restaurant called "Rebun-san Bafun". I ordered the half & half 90g of Murasaki sea urchin from Rishiri. The sea urchin had a slight bitterness and lacked sweetness. The miso soup that came with it had some kind of shellfish in it, which was surprising. It seems like I didn't do enough research beforehand at the sushi restaurant. I messed up.

I visited during the Obon period. There was a long line even before the 11:00 opening. They were considerate, offering tea to prevent heatstroke. There is a second floor in addition to the first floor, so they were able to seat us quickly. The Snake Eye Special, limited to 30 servings, was 21 pieces for 3800 yen. It was a good deal with a variety of toppings. The Uni Don is normally 3900 yen, but the smallest size is served separately for 2000 yen. It's just the right amount to have alongside sushi without getting tired of it. The premium sushi was also delicious. Despite the crowd, we were served promptly without much waiting. I left feeling completely satisfied. Unfortunately, it seems they have raised their prices since the past, but it's still a sushi restaurant worth visiting in Rumoi.

I stopped by on my way to Toyotomi Onsen. It was around 11 o'clock when I arrived and there was already a line. They said it would be about a one-hour wait, so I decided to go to a newly opened roadside station nearby to wait. The roadside station was also quite crowded, but they had free rental of play equipment, so we played badminton to pass the time. They would call you when your turn was near. The staff at the reception were very kind, so I didn't mind waiting a bit. We were guided to a raised seating area on the second floor. It didn't seem too crowded at first glance, so maybe it took time to space out the seats due to the current situation. Now, about the seafood bowl. It was packed with a variety of toppings! For those who want to try different types of seafood like sea urchin, abalone, and mantis shrimp, it's very satisfying! The price seems reasonable for what you get. In Sapporo, some places may charge much more. Thank you for the delicious meal!

After checking in at the hotel (around 7:30 PM), I called to confirm and found out that due to the impact of the coronavirus, the restaurant was closing early today (until 7 PM) but they said it was okay for a short visit. I hurried over and was seated in a private room instead of at the counter. I ordered the Snake Eyes Special Sushi (21 pieces for 3,800 yen) and a draft beer (600 yen). The sushi was a bit more expensive than before. Unfortunately, my phone battery died halfway through and I couldn't take a picture of the sushi, but I was very satisfied with the sushi after a long time.

I was in Rumoi for business, so I decided to have lunch here. This popular sushi restaurant is featured in the special edition of the Hokkaido Michelin Guide 2012. The restaurant is easy to find as it faces the national highway and has ample parking space. It was lunchtime when I visited, and there were a decent number of customers, but we were seated at a table without having to wait. In addition to sushi and seafood bowls, the lunch menu includes grilled fish set meals, tempura set meals, sashimi set meals, katsu-don, tempura-don, and unagi-don. I ordered the "Grilled Fish Set Meal (1,500 yen)" and my wife ordered the recommended "Deluxe Chirashi (3,500 yen)". For the grilled fish, you can choose from salted mackerel, saury, flatfish, and hokke, and I chose the hokke as I love it. It was ready in about 15 minutes. The hokke was not very big, but the flesh was thick and delicious. The set meal also came with side dishes like braised pork, zangi (fried chicken), and tamagoyaki (rolled omelette), so we were quite full. Personally, I prefer just rice and miso soup, so I would appreciate it if they could lower the price accordingly. The Deluxe Chirashi my wife had contained 18 types of seafood, as shown in the photo, and it was very generous in portion. All the seafood was fresh and delicious, making it her number one choice among all the seafood chirashi she has had before. Although it may be a bit pricey, the highly recommended "Deluxe Chirashi" is definitely worth trying here.
