The restaurant on the 2nd floor of Wakasaimo has moderate prices and average taste. The atmosphere was nice! I wanted to buy Senka tomatoes at the Mizunoeki in Lake Toya. We came to Lake Toya for that reason, driving 2 hours from Otaru. It took 2 hours just for mini tomatoes. We safely bought tomatoes and other items at the Mizunoeki and it was lunchtime. I always struggle with where to have lunch in this area. As a food blogger, I decided to try a restaurant I haven't been to before. After much consideration, I chose this restaurant on the 2nd floor of Wakasaimo. I was worried it might be crowded like the rest of Lake Toya, but it wasn't too bad, which was a relief. There were only 2 empty seats with a view of Lake Toya, which was nice. The location is really great, you can keep staring at the lake. I later found out from the news that the white tent in the photo was a flower stand... I wish I had known, I would have offered flowers. The menu structure felt very tourist-oriented. There were no simple options like plain soba, everything was over 1,000 yen. They use soba flour from Hokuryu, which I appreciate, but... There were no standard curries, all came with fried items. The cheapest curry was chicken curry for 1,188 yen. I wanted to try a menu using hotate from Funka Bay, so I chose the hotate tendon. It's usually 1,265 yen but on sale for 1,000 yen. 20 minutes wait for the food. During that time, I gazed at Lake Toya with my companion. The hotate tendon was 1,000 yen (on sale). It came with 4 scallops, eggplant, okra, pumpkin... and maybe 1 or 2 more items. As I suspected from the visual, the tempura was not crispy but rather soggy. The hotate from Funka Bay... honestly, it was below my expectations. While eating, I remembered the "Oshamoko" at "Glass" in Otaru. The scallops there were huge and the seasoning was really good... The scallops in the tendon were 4 pieces, which was good, but the inherent bitterness and the bitterness of the innards of the scallops were strong and I didn't like it. The tempura seemed a bit overcooked and had a slightly rough texture, which was disappointing. The pumpkin was too sweet, and the eggplant lacked juiciness, which was also disappointing. However, there was a lot of rice, so it was quite filling. The slightly firm rice was very delicious. Maybe I should have gone for a tonkatsu set meal. We all ordered rice dishes, why did we do that, we laughed. Sometimes lunch is like this. Probably won't come back. Apart from the price and taste, the menu with many fried items and few choices makes it difficult to use. It would be more user-friendly if they made some more effort, like putting ramen (even if it's for business use) or changing the hotate rice to hotate mixed rice (some people don't like rice balls). I felt that a little more ingenuity could make it more user-friendly, especially since the location is great.
