It was delicious... I drank up every drop of the soup. It had been nearly 20 years since I last visited, and honestly, I didn't have much of an impression back then. But I was surprised by the amazing richness and depth of flavor in this potage. I also found the diverse menu, aside from the Tairyu soba, very intriguing. The minced meat ramen from the old nighttime restaurant "Fukusenro" can now be enjoyed from lunchtime as well.

The combination of rich pork fat, noodles, and broth is wonderful and incredibly delicious. I definitely want to go back again. Thank you for the meal. I am grateful for all the ingredients in this world. Bringing in delicious food, the more you eat, the more powerful you become.

It's been almost 20 years since it opened in Kitaoji, and I had it for the first time in a while. The delicious taste has not changed since the old days. There were a few foreign tourists, couples, construction workers, and office workers, making it lively with various people. This time, I had the Char Siu Tonryu, and the Char Siu went well with the soup, it was excellent. Thank you for the meal.

Located in Kitashirakawa, Kyoto, this ramen shop is situated almost directly across from the previously visited Akatsuki Ramen. The menu includes the "Greed East Dragon" (large) for ¥1,450 and the "Flavored Egg and Beef Rice Set" for ¥500. The ramen here is known for its original "Vege-Pota" broth, which is a creamy salt-based soup made from pork bones, chicken bones, and various vegetables. The broth has a rich flavor that pairs well with the noodles. Personally, I really enjoy the taste, although preferences may vary. The Flavored Egg and Beef Rice Set is decent, but there is a lot of rice compared to the amount of toppings. The restaurant also has a parking lot at the back with space for about 7 cars, making it convenient for those driving. It's relatively easy to get a seat without much waiting, so I highly recommend this place for ramen in Kitashirakawa.

Higashi Ryusoba (regular) 1000 yen. The noodles are thin and the soup is pork bone-based with a refreshing taste as if chicken is also included. The char siu topping is tender and delicious. The noodles are warm, but the soup feels lukewarm? Not sure if this is the default or a serving issue.

"Tokuryu is a type of food. The creamy soup is rich but not too heavy. Thick noodles that go well with the soup. Green onions are a must. It's delicious to change the taste while eating. A taste that you can only experience here. It's so delicious that you'll want to come back again and again."

There is a space in front of the restaurant with terrace seating, which is quite rare. About 10 years ago, there were about 7-8 parking spaces at the back of the store, but the road leading to the parking lot was very narrow and difficult to navigate. The easiest way to get there is by taking the city bus from Ginkakuji-dori to Shirakawa-dori. Upon entering, you purchase a meal ticket from the machine on the left, so it may be helpful to do some research beforehand if you are not familiar with this process. Take your meal ticket, find an available seat, and wait for your order to be served. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and stylish, with children's chairs available for those dining with kids. The "Tokuryu Miso Tamago Ramen" costs ¥1,150. The soup is a blend of pork bone and chicken broth with vegetables, sprinkled with red pepper for a fresh kick. However, the vegetables turning into a creamy texture in the soup may not be to everyone's liking. The broth is rich in pork bone flavor but light and not heavy. The aftertaste is definitely salty. The noodles are medium-thin curly noodles, slightly chewy but soft. The toppings include green onions, chashu pork, bamboo shoots, a boiled egg as an extra topping, and garlic chives kimchi. The kimchi goes well with the soup. It reminded me of a dish I had at a place called "Karako." Overall, the experience was good, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

Ramen restaurant along Shirakawa Street. They have a terrace seating which looks pleasant on sunny days. I ordered the Abura Soba for 1100 yen. The creamy soup has a unique and delicious taste. The spicy kick adds a nice touch. It's not a popular spot with long lines, but personally, I like this place.

I had been curious about the ramen shop in Kitashirakawa, and finally tried it out - Hokusai Tohryu (Large) for ¥1,200. The noodles were egg curly noodles that mixed well with the soup. The chashu was tender and delicious, and the addition of a little bit of garlic oil with leeks allowed for a nice change in flavor. Personally, it was a really delicious bowl of ramen. Even if you have to wait in line, I think it's worth going. It's convenient to go by car as there are 7 parking spaces available, which is great.

The homemade noodles are chewy, but they lack a bit of firmness. Even though I cooked the noodles al dente, they were still a bit soft. The soup is made with vegetable umami, pork bones, chicken bones, and maple leaves, resulting in a unique yellowish soup. It's not bad, but it lacks a punch. There is a spicy seasoning like chili pepper on top, but it doesn't quite match the soup. Overall, it's a pretty tasty bowl of ramen.

In December, I went to Kyoto in winter with a friend who loves coffee. I suggested having lunch at a restaurant that I personally like, and have visited several times in the past. The restaurant is a bit far from the nearest train station, but there are several bus stops nearby, so you can choose your preferred one. I think the easiest way is to take the city bus from the "Ginkakuji-michi" bus stop and head north on "Shirakawa-dori". We arrived around 12:00 pm. Upon entering, I was surprised to see that there were two ticket machines on the left and right sides of the entrance. It turns out that the restaurant is currently sharing space with a Taiwanese ramen shop called "Fukusenro". I checked the contents of the ticket machine on the right side, which belonged to "Tohryu", and ordered the "Most Popular" "Greedy Tohryu Ramen Regular" (1,100 yen) and a large bowl of rice (240 yen). My friend ordered only the "Greedy Tohryu Ramen Regular". The seating area is shared by both restaurants. It was unusual to see two different restaurants sharing the same space. We sat at a table and our food arrived about 15 minutes later. The soup had a nice cloudy color and a unique umami flavor in the rich pork bone base. The sprinkled powdered red pepper added a spicy kick. The noodles were thin and straight, with a chewy texture. The chashu was tender and flavorful, and the other toppings like menma and seasoned egg added to the overall balance of flavors. The side of leek kimchi complemented the dish well. I added some condiments to enhance the flavors even more. We finished our meal and both agreed that it was delicious. The restaurant has managed to maintain its unique and addictive taste over the years, which was satisfying.

Today, I went to a ramen restaurant in Kitashirakawa.
- Chuka soba Tonryu
Located facing Shirakawa Street, the restaurant had a line of young men and women in front of it, indicating its popularity. You purchase your meal ticket from a vending machine. I chose the "Tonryu Soba" which is named after the restaurant.
After waiting at the counter for a while, the ramen was served.
- Tonryu Soba
The soup is a salt-based broth made with pork bones and chicken bones, simmered with various vegetables. Toppings included chashu, menma, leeks, and green onions. The soup was light with a salty flavor. The homemade curly noodles were short and easy to eat. The chashu made with Kyoto Tanba Highland pork was flavorful and had a good texture. The menma had a strong taste from the sauce. The flavor of the leeks was amazing!
At first, the soup seemed light, but when mixed with the leeks, the atmosphere changed completely, and the flavor became more intense. I felt that the ramen had a different impression with each bite, making it enjoyable to eat.

I entered the restaurant around 7 pm. The terrace seats at the back were all full, indicating that the restaurant was very busy. As it was my first time, I ordered the popular Tokuryu ramen in size large. It arrived in just over 5 minutes. The soup had a rich and gentle flavor, as it seemed to be simmered with chicken, pork, and vegetables. It was like a mix of chicken white broth and pork bone broth. However, there was a lot of noodles and they were a bit sticky, which made it difficult for them to mix well with the soup. It was a shame because the soup was delicious. Also, it was a bit inconvenient that there were only a few chopsticks and spoons left at my table, and napkins and tissues were not provided unless requested from the staff. It may be due to infection prevention measures, but it was a bit bothersome. Thank you for the meal.

I had some errands near the intersection of Imadegawa Street and Shirakawa Street, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to visit Mampuku, a Chinese soba noodle restaurant that I haven't been to in decades. However, it was a holiday and the restaurant I wanted to go to, Ramen Misuta, came to mind. I remembered another ramen shop, Higashiryu, and I'm glad I did. The parking lot is located behind the restaurant, so be careful driving down the narrow road, but rest assured that the parking lot is spacious! There is an entrance to the back of the restaurant from the parking lot, where there is also a dining space available. I decided to eat there on the terrace without entering the restaurant. As a Higashiryu beginner, I ordered the classic recommended Higashiryu soba with an additional egg. The soup, made with a blend of rich chicken and pork bone broth simmered with vegetables in a creamy salt base, was addictive. The combination with the egg noodles was excellent. It's no wonder Higashiryu is so popular.

I visited the main store of "Higashiryu Kitashirakawa" in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City for the first time in about 20 years. The parking lot is located behind the store and can accommodate 7 cars, but the access road is very narrow and there is a large overhead power line, making it quite difficult to navigate. There are two signs for "Higashiryu" and "Fukusenro" displayed, which initially confused me. Upon comparing the shop cards, it seems that they may operate as Higashiryu during the day and Fukusenro in the evening. The ticket vending machine switch must be quite a hassle (laughs). The interior is quite tight with 2 tables for 4 people, 1 table for 2 people, and 7 counter seats. There is also an outdoor terrace seating area. I purchased a ticket for the "Higashiryu soba" for 800 yen and sat at the counter. The balance of noodles being more than the amount of soup. The soup, with a slight thickness and a strong yellow color, is made from simmering pork bones, chicken, and vegetables. The mild saltiness with the sweetness of chicken is accentuated by a hint of spice from ichimi. The homemade medium-thin curly egg noodles are cooked slightly soft and blend harmoniously with the soup. Toppings include pork belly chashu, short bamboo shoot menma, Kujo green onions, and what seems to be garlic chive oil. The garlic chives, even in small amounts, add a significant spiciness to the entire soup, so be careful not to mix them if you prefer to keep it subtle. Thank you for the meal (^^)

I went to this highly popular restaurant while sightseeing at Ginkaku-ji Temple. It's always crowded during meal times! Luckily, I was able to go in without waiting. I ordered the Tairyu Soba (regular) for 720 yen and added a flavored egg for 120 yen. The interior of the restaurant had a Chinese vibe with red decor and a dragon swimming. The soup had a unique and addictive taste. The sliced chashu was tender and melted just right in the hot soup. The curly noodles were delicious as they soaked up the soup. The green onions and garlic chives added a flavorful touch. It was a satisfying meal from start to finish. Thank you for the meal!

This is Higashiryu in Kitashirakawa. It's been over 10 years since I last visited. The cloudy soup is rich but not heavy, and the flavor changes with the pickled greens, so you won't get tired of it until the end. Was it always this delicious? I wish I had visited more often.

Ramen is a matter of personal preference and I think that applies to Toraryu as well. Toraryu Ramen is made from chicken broth and various vegetables. When I tried it for the first time, it tasted like a certain instant ramen to me. That's why I think it's not suitable for me. Ramen is a complex dish.

After finishing work, I went to this shop. I parked my car in the parking lot behind the shop and entered from the parking lot side. When I passed through the back entrance curtain, I found outdoor seating with an order window. Although the shop also seemed to be open indoors, I decided to sit in the outdoor seating despite the cold weather, considering infection prevention measures. I ordered the "Gobou Tatsuryu Soba" for 1,000 yen at the order window. I sat down at the outdoor seating and waited for my bowl of noodles, but it was unexpectedly cold! I moved my chair closer to the heater and waited for about 5 minutes before my bowl arrived. The white bowl contained a slightly yellowish soup with chashu pork, bamboo shoots, kimchi, chopped green onions, and a sprinkle of what seemed like chili oil on top. When I tasted the soup, I felt the rich and creamy flavor of the chicken and pork bone salt soup spread in my mouth. The vegetable-based soup had a balanced mix of pork bone umami, chicken broth richness, vegetable mellowness, a hint of spiciness, and a subtle ginger flavor. The medium-thin curly noodles had a chewy texture that paired well with the soup's flavor. The chashu pork had a slightly strong taste that complemented the mellow soup. The spicy kimchi added a bit of heat when dipped in the soup. Although there was a decent amount of oil, it wasn't heavy, and the saltiness was just right, allowing me to enjoy it until the last bite. I think it would be delicious to eat inside the shop, but eating in the cold outdoor seating made the experience even more special.

This is a popular ramen shop on Shirakawa Street. Recently, it has merged with the neighboring "Fukusenro." Originally sister stores, they now operate as "Toryu" during the day and "Fukusenro" at night. I visited around 12:30 on a weekday and was able to get in without waiting. I tried the "Toryu Ramen" for 720 yen. The soup is made from chicken bones, pork bones, and vegetables, with a rich sweetness from the vegetables. The medium-thick curly noodles paired well with the soup. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!
