A traditional Japanese confectionery shop located in front of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, with branches in Arashiyama and department stores. This shop has a long history of providing sweets to the Imperial Family. They offer sweets that are often used in tea ceremonies, with seasonal items available as well. One of their most famous sweets is the agar jelly with fruit juice and summer citrus candy. This time, I tried their Sakura Mochi, which is only available in January. It dates back to the Heian period and was originally part of a ritual at the Imperial Palace to wish for longevity. Over time, the ingredients were simplified, with salted burdock replacing salted sweetfish, wrapped in miso paste and mochi. The burdock is sweet and tender, cooked to perfection with a hint of earthiness. The miso flavor is just right in all the sweets I've tried from this shop. The unique taste of the burdock adds to the overall flavor profile, showcasing the skill of the artisans.

Originally, I love mooncakes, so I didn't hesitate to buy the Xiangguo cake for 270 yen. The appearance is far from a mooncake... Is that orange peel inside? It's mysterious... The scent when opened is far from a mooncake, and the texture is not the typical solid dough, but crumbly. One bite... Are there fruits inside? The presence of beans is strong, but it's sweet without being overwhelming. The refreshing feeling in the mouth after swallowing, is it because of the fruits? Another bite... Delicious... It's elegant♪ I will definitely buy it if I find it again! I want to try more sweets from this shop✨

Up Seven Alleys is said to be the oldest hanamachi (geisha district) in Kyoto. During the summer, there is a Bon Odori festival, and the shops along Up Seven Alleys Street set up stalls. At this traditional Japanese confectionery shop, I bought a Summer Orange Squash for 500 yen. It was not too sour or too sweet, with a refreshing taste. It was delicious. Please note that this menu item is for the stalls, so it may not be available on regular days.

Entering from the east gate of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, the head shrine of approximately 12,000 Tenmangu and Tenjin shrines nationwide, onto Kamishichiken Street. Kamishichiken is the oldest geisha district in Kyoto, and in this area is the prestigious confectionery shop "Roshou" that specializes in traditional sweets. I came here in search of my mother's favorite sweet, Bankandou. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the Bankandou. On this quiet summer day in Kamishichiken, there were hardly any people around. Bankandou is a refined sweet with a subtle sweetness that brings a sense of coolness. How about making it a souvenir from Kyoto?

After visiting the Seiryuen Garden at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, I stopped by this shop. I bought some matcha-flavored fruit mochi for souvenirs, and for myself, I got a cooler bag with designs of Yamato Tachibana and pine needles. It's probably meant for summer tangerines, but it's so cute! The Yamato Tachibana has a texture similar to dates, and the taste is refreshing! Thank you for the meal!! Next time, I would like to try the evening tangerines!

While in Tokyo, I was lucky enough to purchase some delicious sweets from the famous old Matsusan. I bought them at Takashimaya's Kyoto Airlines counter. I enjoyed the smooth and elegant Uguisu Mochi, as well as the Tsubaki Mochi which I tried for the first time. It was a blissful experience to taste such beautifully crafted and delicious seasonal Japanese sweets. It made me want to visit Kyoto.

Famous traditional Japanese confectionery shop. I think I'm the only one who finds it difficult to step inside out of curiosity. On this day when I visited Tenjin, they were selling Kanko Mochi, which is one of my favorites, by roasting them over a brazier at the storefront. It had been a while since I last had it, and it was delicious. I often visit Tenjin, but this was my first time seeing it there. I would be happy if they could sell it individually at the storefront, even just on days when Tenjin is busy. Thank you for the meal.

This long-established shop offers elegantly sweet treats that make you feel sophisticated no matter what you order. The location of this shop is also excellent. I often go there to buy summer tangerine sugar, which has a refined sweetness. Starting from September 2022, they have started selling late tangerine sugar, which has replaced grapefruit. Today, I tried to buy items that can last for a while. I bought two items, but ended up eating them during the tasting event. The smooth chestnut flavor was exquisite.

Suddenly craving for TenTenYou's ramen, I headed to Kyoto. I found the main store of Oimatsu-san in Kitano Tenmangu shopping street and decided to visit. [Summary] - Kanko Mochi 702 yen: Diced mochi cubes of about 10mm. Soft and melting texture. Initially, a faint acidity and saltiness from the blended plum flesh spread out. Then, the refreshing sweetness of wasanbon sugar catches up, enhancing the plum flavor even more. Can be kept for a little over a week. - Uguisu Mochi 378 yen: Uguisu mochi of about 40x30mm size, 20mm thickness. Inside the chewy and melting mochi is a chunky red bean paste. The unmatched texture of mochi and the elegant, refreshing sweetness of the anko filling are irresistible. Can be kept until the next day after purchase. - Goshoguruma 98 yen: Anko-filled rakugan of about 25x25mm size, 10mm thickness. However, the rakugan itself is only 1-2mm thick to maintain its shape. A combination where you can simultaneously taste the crispness of the rakugan and the smoothness of the smooth bean paste. Can be kept until the next day after purchase.

I purchased the following four items: ① Hagi Kintan: kinton, coarse sweet bean paste ② Nadeshiko: konashi, white sweet bean paste ③ Kikyobai: hananijuu, white sweet bean paste ④ Nobufun: sweet potato steamed bun, coarse sweet bean paste. The sweet potato in "Nobufun" has a slightly firm texture. This is a matter of personal preference, but I personally prefer it a little softer. However, the sweet bean paste inside is subtly sweet and the sweetness level was perfect.

Near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, there is a historic Japanese sweets shop in Kamishichiken. I visited in June and looked for something suitable for summer. I tried the Kitano Plum and Summer Orange. They were both long-lasting treats. The Kitano Plum consists of plum-flavored kudzu jelly pressed out in a gelatinous form and topped with plum syrup. It was slightly sweet but refreshing, especially when eaten chilled, making it a refined and refreshing delicacy for the summer. The Summer Orange is a canned jelly with a citrusy and slightly bitter taste, perfect for chilling and enjoying. Thank you for the delicious treats!

I visited Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and its surroundings for a stroll. I wanted to buy some mooncakes, but the local warabi mochi looked delicious so I ended up purchasing three of them. The warabi mochi (3 pieces, 1242 yen) came in a small box, each individually packed in a tin. The expiration date is just under six months. The mochi had a black color with a hint of brown, and it was soft and bouncy. The flavor of the warabi was distinct, despite it being a rare ingredient. It came with kinako (soybean flour) and black sugar syrup, which made it sweet when poured over. Especially the black sugar syrup was very sweet (laughs). I enjoyed it very much.

Celebrating my son's academic success with a Kyoto excursion. We first visited Kitano Tenmangu Shrine to share a Summer Orange Jelly priced at 1404 yen. The jelly, with a diameter of about 80mm and a height of 50mm, had a refreshing bitterness of summer oranges combined with a juicy sweetness. The texture of the jelly was just right, making it quite delicious. We split it in half and enjoyed it together. It was truly a delightful treat. Next, we tried a Sagan Manju from Saga priced at 432 yen. The manju was about 35x30mm in size and 25mm thick, with a fluffy skin and smooth sweet bean paste filling. Despite its simple appearance, it was surprisingly delicious with a clean sweetness. Both treats were best enjoyed the day after purchase.

It's a bit intimidating to enter a shop with a white warm curtain, but once inside, the staff are friendly and polite! First, I tried the seasonal wagashi, two pieces of Na-no-hana Kinako Kintons, which is a classic delicious treat. It has a chewy Yomogi mochi topped with sweet potato paste - perfect for the Hinamatsuri festival. Then, I tried the Kanoko Mochi, a spring treat from Kyoto that starts with the plum blossoms in Kitano. The mochi is a beautiful plum color, sweet and sour with a hint of spring fragrance. Surprisingly, it contains mackerel, but you can't taste the fish at all. While waiting for the wagashi to be made, I took photos of the beautiful sweets in the display case and found the Yama Hitogusa Kashi, a sweet treat with walnuts and candied kumquats - I knew I would love it. I bought a piece to try, and it was delicious, just my type! After shopping, I visited Kitano Tenmangu Shrine to admire the plum blossoms in the shrine grounds since I didn't have time to go to the plum garden. On the way back, I filled a bottle with water from the mountain spring, used it to make tea and coffee, and enjoyed all the treats by myself in no time!

I stop by a long-established Japanese confectionery shop located after walking from Kitano Tenmangu Shrine to Kamishichiken. The shop is known for its "Koka Mochi," a type of mooncake-like confectionery with dried fruits inside that has a unique blend of Chinese, Japanese, and Western flavors. It tastes like a fruitcake with red bean paste, giving it a distinct mooncake-like flavor. It's a rare and enjoyable treat that makes you feel like you've tried something special.

Limited time only, exclusively for visitors to the Sugawara no Michizane Plum Garden at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, you can enjoy sweets provided by Rosho, located inside the shrine. Due to the pandemic, dining inside the garden is prohibited, and Mitarashi dango can only be taken away. The plum blossoms are still blooming, with some early bloomers already at their best.

On New Year's Day, amidst the light snowfall, I was on my way to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine from Kamishichiken when I came across a stall selling amazake at the entrance. I decided to have a cup to warm myself up, and it was delicious with just the right amount of sweetness. It was a relief that they were open on New Year's Day. Thank you for the treat, and thank you very much.

At Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, when you buy a ticket for the garden, it comes with a set of sweets. The sweet is like a dorayaki with white bean paste inside. It is crescent-shaped. The surrounding dough is quite chewy and soft. It's rare to have such a chewy texture in a sweet. I prefer the normal dough though. The white bean paste had a strong mint flavor. Hmm, it's a bit of a strange taste. This is not a product that everyone will enjoy. Be careful because it has a short expiration date!

・I purchased four items: "Nerikiri Takao," "Hinokomochi Hane-ni-ju," "Kingyoku Ogurayama," and "Kingyoku Kurishibori." "Kingyoku Kurishibori" is my favorite among the four, and this is my second time purchasing it. "Hinokomochi Hane-ni-ju" was also delicious.

I bought some traditional Japanese sweets from Oimatsu for the first time in a while. The "Chestnut Puree" was delicious, not like the usual chestnut paste. The "Korin Kiku" was also very good, with the perfect balance of firmness in the sweet potato and sweetness in the black bean paste.

I bought wagashi (Japanese sweets). I purchased the following four items: ① Yamazuto: Jōyō, Kurian, Azuki koshi-an ② Satonoi: Konashi, Shiro koshi-an ③ Hōnen: Kinton, Azuki koshi-an ④ Kikka Mochi: Hanafutaba: Shiro koshin. Personally, I liked the ② "Satonoi" which resembled persimmons, the texture of Konashi is also good, and the balance of Shiro koshi-an is nice. As for ①, the Jōyō was a bit too fluffy. The ④ Kikka Mochi has a slightly firm Shiro koshi-an inside.
