This is my first post, but I have been visiting Biei for over 10 years. Unfortunately, they no longer have fried rice on the menu, so I was disappointed. However, I ordered the ramen and pork cutlet set. The ramen has improved in taste and is even more delicious now. It's similar to Asahikawa ramen. The soup was also flavorful, comparable to a ramen shop. The pork cutlet was in a tasty sauce, so it was delicious. I'm not a fan of egg topping, so I was happy about that.

There is a family restaurant in Biei. The interior has a nostalgic atmosphere. The menu includes ginger pork and zangi set meals, but this restaurant seems to specialize in katsu curry udon, so I ordered that! It uses Biei wheat and Biei pork, local ingredients, and the tonkatsu has a sweet flavor and is delicious! The udon is soft yet has a good texture. The curry is average, but the katsu was delicious!

We stopped by this place on the way back from a drive to Biei with a friend. The curry udon here is served tsukemen style, which was a first for me, but it was very delicious. The tonkatsu was crispy and the meat was sweet, making it taste really good when dipped in the curry. I would like to try the katsu curry next time. The set also came with Biei milk, which was refreshing and tasty.

Today for lunch, I had the classic Biei pork cutlet curry udon for 1150 yen. I arrived before the opening at 11 am to avoid the tour groups, but right before opening, two tour buses arrived and the restaurant quickly filled up. The dish was delicious, with the udon noodles having a nice texture. After finishing my meal, I saw about 20 people waiting outside. It's better to go early before the tour buses arrive if you want to avoid the crowd for lunch. The restaurant is more relaxed in the evening.

After 6 pm, I was looking for a place to have dinner in Biei during the winter season when many restaurants are closed. I found a place that serves local gourmet curry udon. I was torn between the Biei pork cutlet curry udon and the new Biei curry udon with grilled noodles. I ended up ordering the new Biei curry udon with grilled noodles because the pork cutlet was only available with the other option. It came with milk pudding, soup, and salad. The udon is made using wheat from Biei. It had large chunks of vegetables like potatoes, eggplants, carrots, and corn. The udon was delicious, but I think the pork cutlet curry udon or the set meal might have been better. The milk pudding was also tasty. Next time, I'll try the pork cutlet curry udon or the pork steak set meal.

Today, the weather was nice so I decided to visit Biei for a hill walk. I wanted to eat something delicious nearby to boost my energy, but the restaurant was closed. I walked around feeling disappointed, and then I was drawn into a restaurant by its name. I have been to Biei many times, but I had never noticed this place before. It had a "full" sign, but when I tried to sign in at the door, there was a seat available at the counter. Biei is famous for its curry udon, and although I had never tried it before, I ordered it without hesitation. The curry, udon, and vegetables arrived separately. The presentation was unusual, but the taste was quite ordinary. The vegetables, surprisingly, were delicious, though not exceptional for Hokkaido. The menu also includes daily specials, curry rice, and fried food sets. There were many local people as well as tourists, so I assume the other items on the menu must be even more delicious. Whenever I come to Hokkaido, I always make sure to stop by Biei, so next time, I will try one of the set meals. After this, I walked around the hills of Biei for 4 and a half hours.

The desired shop was sold out, so I quickly searched and found this place. I visited around 2 pm on the weekend and it was almost full. Managed to secure a table that just became available. I wasn't very hungry, but decided to try the local specialty dish of Biei. I ordered the New Biei Curry Udon (Yaki-men) for 1050 yen. It was served in about 10 minutes with soup, potato salad, and milk pudding on the side. Even though it's udon, you eat it with a fork provided, so it's easy to twirl around. The noodles were soft and different from the cold noodles I tried before. They are grilled at high temperature, which makes a big difference. When you mix the curry roux and eat it, it's slightly spicy, around medium heat and a bit spicy. The roux is more on the lighter side, balancing well with the noodles. There was not much roux, so it was a bit mild in taste. There were plenty of vegetables under the cheese - eggplant, carrot, pumpkin, potato, corn. The dish was quite filling with just the ingredients. If you want to eat udon, I recommend the cold summer menu of the homemade barley udon.

Ramen, fried food, curry, and a variety of genres are available at this family restaurant, which seems like a local diner. I ordered the 200g pork cutlet and it was very tender and easy to eat. At 1180 yen, it's a great value, almost worth paying a bit more for. It has a vibe of a local diner on the main street, with many local families dining there. It was packed on Saturday at 6 pm, with many people waiting outside, so it seems to be a popular spot. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived in Biei. Although Biei was not my intended destination, it was lunchtime. Biei is known for its "curry udon" as a specialty. I remembered having tried it about 5 years ago in Biei. So, I decided to try the famous Biei curry udon. There are six defining characteristics of Biei curry udon, such as serving the udon and curry separately or adding Biei milk. You can look it up for more details. I visited a popular restaurant where you can enjoy Biei curry udon. Since it was a bit late, I only had to wait about 15 minutes to get a seat. I ordered the Biei pork cutlet curry udon with Biei milk, which cost 1050 yen. The dish arrived in about 10 minutes after ordering. Oh, the vegetables don't come with it. It seems that the regular Biei curry udon comes with local summer vegetables, but the pork cutlet curry udon only had shredded cabbage. I was quite surprised. I should have just ordered the regular one. The curry sauce was mild and not very spicy, aiming to appeal to everyone. I didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't say it was incredibly delicious. The noodles were tasty, though. I finished the meal with Biei milk. Thank you for the meal.

In Biei-cho, Kamikawa-gun, Hokkaido, a local dish called "Biei Curry Udon" is offered. It was proposed by Hiro Nakata, a staff member of "Jalan," in March 2005, and a group of 15 local residents formed the "Biei Curry Udon Research Society." The dish was first served in four local stores on July 2, 2005. Initially, it was served in a "dipping noodles" style, with udon noodles and curry sauce served separately, but later, in July 2012, a "baked noodles" style was introduced, where the noodles are topped with Hokkaido cheese and baked in the oven. In November 2013, a winter limited-time menu was introduced, featuring hot "curry simmered udon" and freshly made "curry porridge." Each style has its own rules, but they all use Biei-produced wheat "Kamugi" for the udon noodles, Biei-produced pork and vegetables for the ingredients, and a special curry sauce created by each store. The price is below 1200 yen (tax included). As of November 2022, there are five stores offering Biei Curry Udon in Biei-cho. One of them is the "Family Restaurant Daimaru," where a variety of dishes are served, including the popular Biei Curry Udon in three styles: dipping noodles, baked noodles, and curry porridge. The restaurant is located about a 7-minute walk from JR Biei Station, with parking available. The reviewer visited Daimaru and ordered the original dipping noodles style. The dish features udon noodles made with Biei-produced wheat, a curry sauce with Biei-produced onions and fruits, and Biei milk for added creaminess. The noodles are thick and have a strong texture, served hot with a side of vegetables and pork. The reviewer enjoyed the dish and looks forward to trying the other styles in the future.

Katsu curry udon with an additional order of rice. Carbs on carbs, but who cares, right? It's pretty crowded even though it just opened. The wait time is not even 10 minutes. I was expecting a homey curry, but it turned out to be spicy which surprised me at first. But once you get used to it, it becomes addictive. The katsu was thick, tender, and delicious. I missed out on the option for Biei milk set! I want to try it next time, but I have a tendency to get bloated easily after drinking milk.

This is something I received when I visited before. It was quite a while ago. I remember it was a set of fried chicken and shrimp fry. I couldn't finish it, so I had my friend who was with me eat it! It was a huge amount that almost made my stomach burst. It was delicious while it was piping hot. I want to go again once the snow melts.

I came for a drive to Biei in early spring in March 2022. I decided to have the local specialty curry udon in Biei town for lunch. They use locally sourced ingredients from Biei to prepare their dishes, so I had high expectations. My wife ordered the Biei Curry Udon with Biei milk (900 yen), and I ordered the Biei Pork Cutlet Curry Udon (980 yen). The dishes were served in about 10 minutes. The curry roux, which the restaurant prides itself on, is made with a pork bone-based soup with sweetness from Biei onions and fruits, and richness from Biei milk as a hidden flavor. It has a mild taste without spiciness. The Biei Curry Udon has a chewy and mochi-like texture that goes well with the roux. The ingredients include deep-fried Biei vegetables (eggplant, pumpkin, potatoes, carrots, etc.) and pork shabu for a satisfying meal. The pork cutlet is crispy and sweet, but I wished there were more vegetables besides meat and cabbage. The menu is diverse, offering a wide range from rice bowls to ramen and set meals, making it a beloved restaurant by both locals and tourists. Thank you for the delicious meal! ♪♪

On a day off for lunch, I decided to take a little trip to Biei. I visited the long-established Daimaru restaurant. My colleague ordered the famous Biei specialty, katsu curry udon. I opted for the Biei pork cutlet rice bowl set with ramen. The ramen was firm and chewy, with a soup that was rich but light. The bowl for the cutlet rice seemed small at first, but maybe there was just a little less rice in it. The thickness of the meat was also quite satisfying. My colleague said the curry udon was very delicious. Thank you for the meal!

Near Biei Station, we stopped by this cute restaurant on our way back from Furano to Asahikawa. The restaurant is a normal house but the local gourmet menu caught our attention. I ordered the Curry Udon, while my partner ordered the Biei pork Tonkatsu set. I couldn't help but feel envious of the size of the Tonkatsu when it arrived. I tried a couple of pieces and found them to be tender, delicious, with a hint of sweetness from the fat, and the lean meat had a satisfying chew. The curry broth for the Udon was more like a light curry sauce, and dipping the Udon in it was delightful. My partner poured the ample broth over the rice and enjoyed it thoroughly. The Udon had a good chewiness and texture, and soaking it in the warm curry made it even softer and easier to eat. The gentle spiciness of the curry, which paired well with the vegetables and meat, made it a delicious curry suitable for families. Once again, we were able to enjoy Hokkaido's local ingredients. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I can't believe there's such a delicious restaurant in this area! I was really impressed. I thought it was just a regular family restaurant, but the ramen and katsudon are both really delicious! The set menus are also great. The katsudon is perfectly fried, the meat is flavorful, and for this price, the quality is unbeatable. The ramen is also amazing, with chewy noodles and tasty broth. Hokkaido's culinary skills are truly impressive!

In July in Hokkaido, during my summer vacation garden stroll (part 3/3, bonus). This is a lunch visit in between the annual tradition of exploring Biei from "Farm Tomita". It's at Family Restaurant Daimaru in Biei. [Location] It's near Biei Station, with a parking lot next to the store. There doesn't seem to be many people around the station, maybe because it's a weekday or because it's a late lunch, I'm not sure. [COVID-19 Measures] Hand sanitizers are available, and the tables are spaced out. [When in Biei] Biei is famous for its local cuisine, such as "Curry Udon", but on the day of the visit, the curry udon was sold out, so we tried the "Yaki Men" instead. Another popular dish is the recently introduced "Biei Pork Tonkatsu", so we decided to try that. ★New Biei Curry Udon <Yaki Men> @950 yen. This was ordered by my wife. It looks good, with a generous portion of hot yaki curry udon. I tried a bit, and it was milder than I expected. ★Biei Pork Tonkatsu Set @1,080 yen. The presentation was nice, and it was my first time trying Biei pork. The tonkatsu was about 1cm thick, with a wide surface, giving a good impression. The pork was sweet and tasty, and the lean meat was juicy and delicious. The side vegetables were probably from Biei, and the corn was sweet. I enjoyed the Biei pork tonkatsu. When we were about to pay, we found out that coffee was included (laughs). We took it to go and enjoyed it on the way back. [Bonus: Biei Sightseeing] "Blue Pond" is less than 30 minutes by car from Biei Station. It was a bit cloudy, and the water level was low, resulting in a slightly milder "sky blue" color on this day. "Shirahige Waterfall" is near the Blue Pond, less than 30 minutes by car from Biei Station. I always quickly visit this spot, but the viewpoint is high, which makes it a bit scary for someone like me who is afraid of heights. Still, it's a worthwhile attraction. "Zerubu no Oka" is about a 5-minute drive from Biei Station. It's not very big, but it's well maintained and colorful, which I like. You can drive around the area in a buggy or cart, which is fun. This time, we took a cart and had a great time. This alone made the visit enjoyable. [Closing] This summer, while being mindful of infection prevention measures, I was able to enjoy the scenery of Furano and Biei. I hope I can visit calmly next summer. Thank you for the meal.

I finally visited Daimaru, which I have wanted to go to for a long time. The dining establishments in Biei are often crowded with tourists, especially those from China and Korea, making it difficult to enter during lunchtime. However, thanks to the current situation with the coronavirus, I was able to enter without waiting in line. I heard from a colleague that the "Curry Udon" was good, so I ordered the "Katsu Curry Udon" without hesitation. As I looked around while waiting for my order, I noticed that there were many local customers here. It must be tough for locals during lunchtime when there are only tourists around (laughs). When the Katsu Curry Udon arrived, I took a bite of the curry soup, which was like dipping noodles. Hmm, this is how it tastes. I personally prefer a bit more punch in the flavor. I then tried a piece of the katsu... Ah, it's tender! This is good! Maybe the punch is here (laughs). After tasting, I slurped the udon noodles. I realized that there was leftover dipping sauce, so I ordered a small portion of rice and saved two pieces of katsu. It turned into a mini Katsu Curry! It was delicious! I want to try something different next time (^w^). The staff's service was also polite and pleasant. I have to visit again.
