Due to the rain and bear sightings, we ended up having lunch here. The only food option seems to be curry, as this is a café. It seems like a trendy café with branches in Sapporo and Asahikawa, but only this location serves curry. The price of 1800 yen is a bit high, but let's hope the taste makes up for it. I tried the Shiretoko chicken soup curry, but the chicken seemed bland or not well marinated. The curry itself was delicious. The chicken bone curry had a strong flavor and was tasty.

I used this place for a late lunch before trekking around the Shiretoko Five Lakes. The food menu was limited, with only green curry available as a proper meal option, priced at 1800 yen which is a bit on the touristy side. It had lots of vegetables and looked and tasted pretty good. However, it didn't quite have that authentic green curry flavor. The cafe latte was priced at 680 yen, which is also on the higher side, but it was really good with a nice drip and good quality milk. It would be nice if it was a bit more reasonably priced.

I didn't expect to drink coffee at Barista Art Coffee in Utoro before going to Sapporo. The prices are a bit high, but the taste is delicious. It really showed me the difference compared to other shops. If they change the type of milk (even more expensive one), it would be even more delicious. It has great potential... I will definitely go there when I return to Sapporo. Thank you for the meal!

I had a blended coffee at the cafe "Barista Coffee" located in the Shiretoko Nature Center to wake myself up before hiking to Furepe Waterfall, but the taste was just average. Barista Coffee is a coffee stand unique to Hokkaido, serving coffee made with Hokkaido milk and carefully selected beans, with branches in major cities across the island. Although I had only planned to use the Shiretoko Nature Center for necessities during my hike to Furepe Waterfall, I ended up using it more than expected, such as watching "Shiretoko Adventure" on the Mega Screen Kinetcoco.

Around 2:00 pm on the first day of the three-day weekend, I visited the cafe after snow trekking. I had checked it out for lunch earlier, but it seemed like they weren't serving lunch that day as the menu was not available. This cafe is known for using milk from Biei, and I ordered a hot chocolate made with that milk. I couldn't really tell the difference in the milk, but the hot chocolate was rich and creamy, perfect for warming up after walking in the snow. It's a nice cafe to relax in after a snowy adventure.

Barista Coffee opened on May 17, 2019. They offer cafe lattes made with carefully selected coffee beans and light meals using ingredients from Shiretoko in Hokkaido. I ordered a black coffee, but their recommended drink is a cafe latte with milk. The onigiri was large and priced at around 350 yen, with pieces of cut-up fried chicken and kelp mixed in. It tasted great after trekking. The fried chicken sandwich was around 450 yen and was made with fried chicken and salad in a coppe bread. My child enjoyed it a lot! They also had curry, sweets, and ice cream. The customers were varied, and I was able to enjoy a leisurely meal.

The lunch was disappointing, and the weather was bad with rain. So, I decided to head to this cafe. The food menu was a bit fancy. I was looking for some light snacks like baked goods or sandwiches, but they were not on the menu. There were onigiri at the counter, but they were huge! I decided to go for the cheesecake. My friend wanted something to eat too, so he chose a baked donut. We ordered coffee and lemonade, and got a number tag. It took a while to decide as the menu was only at the register. The chef was working alone, so it seemed a bit slow. It would be helpful to have menus on the walls for those still deciding. It's a relaxed atmosphere, but be careful not to spend too much time wandering around the facility.

Furious road station hopping in the direction of Shiretoko, wondering if there are any bears or Ezo deer around, I spotted a new building that wasn't there when I visited last year!! Curious, I decided to stop by. Inside the building, there is a Shiretoko Foundation shop, a MEGA screen, THE NORTH FACE, and a Barista Start Coffee. Since I had been driving for a long time, I decided to take a break here! I wanted to order curry, onigiri, or a hot dog, but they were all sold out. The only thing I could order from the food menu was the "Freshly Fried Potato" (400 yen) with chili powder and cheese sauce. I also ordered an Ice Barista Start Blend (420 yen). There was only one other group of customers ahead of me (2 Ice Barista Start Lattes), but I received my order 38 minutes after placing it... The potato was sprinkled with sweet chili sauce and came with a cup of cream cheese. The coffee was brewed by a machine. Well, maybe there's no rush for the shop, but it was quite obvious that they were working slowly while chatting. I probably won't be ordering from here again. Thank you, Barista Start.

Little by little, I hope things will get better. I've been in the hospital for three weeks and haven't been able to do my food logging activities. Suddenly, 60 items disappeared from the inventory. Even after being discharged, I still have headaches and every day feels really gloomy. I wonder when this pain will go away. I visited Utoro for the first time in a while, and the weather was really nice. I didn't plan to go there, but I stopped by the Shiretoko Nature Center just to use the restroom. I remembered there was a cafe that I hadn't reviewed yet. I don't drink lattes, so I opted for soft serve ice cream. The price was 400 yen, which seemed a bit high for the small portion. The girl working there was nice, but the portion size didn't justify the price. The ice cream had a high viscosity, so it didn't melt quickly in the heat. It wasn't too sweet, but the texture made it seem richer than it actually was. Overall, it was a tasty soft serve ice cream. Shiretoko Pass.

Gourmet Journey Part 7 - Crossing Hokkaido (Shiretoko Region with Brown Bears Nearby)
On our way back from Frepe Waterfall, we stopped by for a break at a cafe located inside the Shiretoko Nature Center. There are no vending machines around, so this is the only option if you're thirsty. It's a cafe chain with 6 stores in Hokkaido and 2 in Singapore, known for their branding. They focus on using Hokkaido milk in their coffee. I ordered the Barista Latte for 630 yen, made with milk from Biei's Jersey cows. The milk was indeed creamy, but the coffee seemed a bit overpriced. The cafe is also attached to shops like Helly Hansen and The North Face, creating a trendy space that outdoor lovers might enjoy. It's quite stylish being located in a World Heritage site, but the prices are on the high side. If you're just looking to quench your thirst after sightseeing and not too concerned about the ambiance, you might feel the cost performance is lacking. I probably wouldn't order this on a regular day.

I sent this review before visiting the Shiretoko Five Lakes. It was quite a remote location, but the recommended cheesecake and soft serve were rich, fresh, and delicious. Shiretoko sightseeing requires a lot of physical stamina, but I was able to relax and be comforted by the sweet treats and the calm atmosphere inside the shop.

Today, in the morning, I enjoyed a cruise around the Shiretoko Peninsula from the sea, followed by a walk to the Frepe Waterfall from the Shiretoko Nature Center. After returning from the waterfall to the center, I stumbled upon a cafe inside. They offer curry and other light meals, making it a good option for lunch. For now, I ordered a soft serve ice cream made from Biei Jersey milk to quench my thirst and relax a bit. I might wander around a bit more until evening.

This is my second visit, but it is the only Barista Start Coffee shop in the Okhotsk area in Sapporo. When it first opened, they only served coffee to go, but I was impressed by the taste and curious about the food, so I decided to visit again. I chose the "Butter Chicken Curry" and the "Shiretoko Blend". Both were rich in flavor and paired perfectly together, and the rice in the curry was cooked to my liking. Even though it seems close, it feels far away, and I am concerned about the road conditions during this time of year, but I hope to visit again when I have the chance.

It was on the way to Shiretoko Goko. It seems to have been recently opened. Although we initially passed by, we turned back. My husband is interesting, wanting to experience the same thing as his favorite sports player. The building is new and the logo of the bear is cute. We got coffee to go and enjoyed the good aroma and rich flavor. Even those who don't usually like coffee would enjoy it. Both the ice coffee and hot coffee were delicious. After that, we encountered real bears in Shiretoko. Truly Shiretoko!!!
