Hello! I'm a middle-aged man who loves rice bowl dishes. I really enjoy rice bowl dishes, and I often make simple ones at home. One of my favorites is Tofu Donburi. When dining out, I also tend to choose rice bowl dishes. I especially like richly flavored rice bowl dishes. I'm not a very refined eater, after all. When I visited the Momotani Shotengai shopping street, I tried a restaurant called Chikaramochi Shokudo. It's a casual chain restaurant that you can often find in the Kansai region. I had their Kitsune Donburi, which had a rich flavor with deep-fried tofu soaked in broth. It was really delicious. I think richly seasoned dishes are the best for enjoying a meal. I might visit again sometime. It's a convenient place for a casual lunch. If you get the chance, I recommend giving it a try!

I won't say it's a place I'd want to come to. I'm only here because of work in the vicinity of Momodani Station. And the shopping street. My high school's nearest JR station was here, but it was too far so I preferred Uehommachi. On this day, after finishing a meeting, I headed to a site near this shopping street. Feeling hungry, I decided to go to an old-fashioned udon shop. It's a typical nostalgic type of udon shop where the grandfather cooks and the grandmother serves. The broth is just... it brings back memories. It's like eating udon for lunch on Saturdays after coming home from school and watching New Comedy. Of course, it only satisfied my hunger a little, so I decided to hit up a cafe nearby.

Arrived before 12:30. There were 8 customers in the restaurant, with tables mostly seating 1-2 people. An elderly couple seemed to be running the place. Service was simple. Couldn't find any set meals on the menu, so I ordered the meat udon (605 yen). Prices were listed without tax. Arrived in about 3-4 minutes. It was exactly meat udon - meat, green onions, broth, and udon. Presentation and cutting of the green onions seemed rushed. But considering the price, it was acceptable. The udon was round and lacked chewiness, typical of Osaka-style udon. The broth had a strong umami flavor and was quite tasty. The meat was okay. Finished the meal. Portion size was modest. For the price, it was decent. Didn't have to wait long, so it's a good spot for a quick meal.

The elementary school kid said it was delicious, but I think it could be better.

"Joining forces, we can overcome anything" (song by AKB48) "Chikaramochi" restaurant has branches all over the place, and I've always been curious about their menu. The "Nabe-yaki Udon" for 680 yen caught my eye - isn't that cheap? The entrance is spacious, and the interior is clean and well-maintained, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The nostalgic Showa era vibes, along with the plain and somewhat unfriendly service from the older ladies, add to the charm. The "Nabe-yaki Udon" arrived in a large pot with chicken, two types of fish cake, half a shiitake mushroom, gluten, and egg, topped with plenty of green onions and chopped seaweed. When sprinkled with shichimi spice, the soft Osaka-style udon noodles in a slightly sweet broth tasted delicious! I'm looking forward to trying the 570 yen "Curry Udon" next time.

When it comes to Rikimochi, the sweet agé topping on Kitsune Udon is famous, but because it was cold that day, I ordered Curry Udon. I was quite hungry, so I added rice as well. Despite having undergone renovations, the interior of the restaurant is quite clean. After a while, the Curry Udon and rice arrived. The Curry Udon looked very filling from the appearance, and it was indeed quite substantial. Normally, just the Curry Udon alone would be enough to feel full. The curry had a flavorful broth with a not too spicy curry that was quite thick. The udon was a typical Osaka style, lacking in firmness. I like this type of udon. I quickly finished the udon, and then ate the rice with the curry broth. I was very full.

There is an udon restaurant in Momotani Station front shopping street. The place seems old but the inside is quite clean, maybe due to renovations. The service is provided by a seasoned older lady, but she may be too used to it as she lacks friendliness. This time, I ordered the "Others' Udon" for 580 yen. The noodles are quite soft, almost like eating porridge, but it's not bad to have this kind of texture once in a while. The broth is slightly sweet but quite tasty, and the meat was well seasoned. If you can overlook the lack of friendliness, I think it's not a bad place.
