I actually wanted to go to the cafe next door, but it was crowded, so I chose this one. This place is also featured in magazines and is quite popular, so I thought it would be a safe choice. I visited on a Sunday at 4 pm during the middle day of a 3-day weekend. The place was about 70% full. I ordered a parfait which came with a cup of green tea for 1200 yen. It also came with a small cup of hot water. The service was slow, it took about 30 minutes for the parfait to arrive. The parfait itself was not very elaborate, just some meringue, sweet red bean paste, and small pieces of cut fruit under the ice cream. The green tea served was not tasty, it was too weak. The portion size of the parfait was small, and for the price of 1200 yen, I felt it was a bit expensive. However, since this is Kyoto, I understand that cafes here tend to be pricier. I know not to expect good value for money in Kyoto cafes. I had a better experience at Kikunoi's cafe in Gion, even though it was a bit more expensive, the atmosphere and service were great. Unfortunately, this cafe lacked that kind of comfortable and satisfying environment. They didn't seem to pay much attention to creating a space where customers could relax. There were no baskets for bags, no backrests on the chairs, and nowhere clear to put coats. The chairs were uncomfortable and the thin cushions were inadequate. The restroom had a flimsy lock and no mirror for makeup touch-ups. Nowadays, it's important for women to have a nice restroom experience, not just for using the facilities. The lack of paper towels for drying hands was also disappointing. For a quick ramen shop, comfort may not be a priority, but for a cafe where customers are paying a higher price, comfort should be considered. Additionally, the conversations inside the cafe were quite loud, which was a bit distracting.
