The shaved ice at Umezono Tea Room has changed from peach to autumn fruits. The refreshing ginger and honey-flavored syrup goes well with the tangy grapes and sweet pears. You can also enjoy it by melting the red bean paste inside.

New ginger and peach shaved ice with hojicha jelly set for 1830 yen. It is described as having a refreshing and spicy new ginger honey ice with a fresh and sweet peach on top. However, the ginger sauce is not spicy, the peach lacks flavor and sweetness, and the azuki beans are bland. The overall composition is simple and lacks any standout qualities. Even when purchased separately for 1480 yen, the price is surprisingly high. The selling point of this place is their pastry-style wagashi, but this lemon hojicha jelly is surprisingly unpleasant in taste. Chilled peach green tea soda for 750 yen. It is said to be made by mixing ripe peach compote with green tea and soda. However, the soda enhances the bitterness of the green tea, creating an unappealing taste. As you drink, the overall flavor is dominated by the sweetness of the peach compote. It is hard to believe how this drink was created. Despite its popularity on social media platforms like Instagram in China, it seems to prioritize aesthetics over taste. Betraying the true meaning of food is the worst thing one can do.

I visited this small old house with a friend on a weekday evening. It's a very atmospheric place. We had ginger syrup and peach shaved ice with yokan (sweet bean jelly) set. The ginger syrup had a refreshing kick, perfect for the hot summer. The peach was fresh and sweet, piled high on top. At the bottom, there was smooth red bean paste and shiratama (mochi balls), which turned into a delicious chilled zenzai (sweet red bean soup) as the ice melted. It was a great choice to come with a friend, as the ginger syrup might be a bit spicy for children. There was only one type of shaved ice available. We chose the black tea-flavored decorative yokan, which was light and very tasty. The staff were very kind and attentive. The seating is limited, so there might be a wait if it gets crowded. The seating is on the second floor, with very steep stairs, so it might be dangerous for small children. It's a place with an adult atmosphere.

This is a shop located at Kurama-guchi in Kyoto. I was quite surprised by the combination of peach and ginger, but it was amazingly delicious with a refreshing taste. The ice was fluffy and smooth, so light that it melts immediately in your mouth, not like typical shaved ice. There was anko at the bottom, and you mix it with shiratama to eat at the end. It's completely different from the shaved ice I had at festivals when I was young. You can enjoy the way of eating it, and it's a stylish shaved ice. The staff at the shop wore white aprons like a traditional Japanese restaurant, and everything from the wooden tables and chairs to the stairs and pillars gave a Japanese ambiance. Since there is no parking, I parked at the nearby coin parking lot. If you love shaved ice or enjoy visiting cafes, please visit this place.

Decorated with a strawberry, the "Kazarian" dessert costs 1,500 yen. You can choose from a selection displayed in showcases, and this time I chose the rare apricot. The seating area is on the second floor, where you can enjoy the view of the city streets while eating. The gentle sweetness of the shiruko (sweet red bean soup) pairs well with the refreshing strawberries, and the apricot dessert I had been curious about. Both are so cute just to look at. Inside, there is white bean paste, lavender, almond, rose, and kiwi fruits, giving a refreshing and easy-to-eat taste with the gentle acidity of the fruits. It was really delicious ✨I want to eat it again.

I visited this cafe in the middle of Golden Week. I originally planned to visit the famous cafe next door, but it was too crowded, so I decided to try this place instead. The atmosphere was lovely and perfect for a break during sightseeing in Kyoto. I ordered the Strawberry Mint Kakigori with tea, which was topped with plenty of fresh strawberries. The combination of the refreshing mint jelly on top surprisingly complemented the strawberries well. It was a delightful way to enjoy the deliciousness of strawberries.

I went to my daughter's friend's art exhibition. The artwork was a collaboration project and it was really amazing, but it was quite popular and hard to get. The fusion of paper and copper or silver in the works was impressive. Some acquaintances were also there, and there were people who came from far away. Everyone there was so cool. It was a wonderful exhibition. I wonder if they have it in Tokyo too? Normally, I would go to the soba restaurant Naiya and then have tea at Gallery Umezono, but on this day, I had lunch elsewhere so I didn't eat soba. I leisurely admired the artwork while listening to explanations. I parked my car a little further away, so on the way to the parking lot, or rather next to the gallery, there is a shop. I initially walked past it but then turned back and went to the counter on the first floor. There were beautifully arranged traditional Japanese sweets. I hesitated a bit on what to choose, paid for it, and then climbed the steep stairs. I find it scary to go down the stairs. The old townhouse with its earthen walls, windows, simple chairs, and tables. At first, hot water was served which was comforting. I had the Yomogi decorative yokan. I hesitated on the drink but ended up choosing coffee. The Yomogi had a deep green color with white bean paste, and there were raspberries in red and kumquats in orange. It was a beautiful Japanese sweet. I ate it slowly and felt relieved. Recently, there have been more lovely galleries and delicious restaurants in this area, and there is also the Funayamaoka Onsen public bath. It's a street I love.

Visited around 2:00 PM on a holiday. Had to wait for about 30 minutes due to the restaurant being full. It seems they haven't started serving shaved ice yet, maybe around the end of April or May. This time, I had a parfait and sweet red bean soup (each costing around 1200 yen). They were not too sweet and very easy to eat. Delicious.

Finally made it to Umegonote Chabo, where I had the place all to myself as there were no other customers. I ordered the apple and cranberry porridge with decorative agar jelly, along with a set of tea. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was very calming, with tables, chairs, and decor that suited my taste perfectly. The apple and cranberry porridge had a crunchy texture from the apple and a nice sweet and sour flavor from the cranberries, which paired well with the sweet porridge. The decorative agar jelly was made with seasonal apples, and it looked beautiful and cute. The agar jelly contained finely chopped apples, and on top there were cashew nuts, dried apples, white bean paste, cranberries, and surprisingly, Japanese pepper which added a nice kick. It was an interesting and delicious agar jelly that I had never tried before. The set came with roasted green tea and hot water, and the staff were very polite and lovely. I would love to visit again soon.

Cafe Umeyuen is a café that specializes in kazari-gan, a type of sweet bean jelly. The café is small and cozy, with a rustic feel, possibly due to being housed in a renovated old building. The reviewer enjoyed the warm persimmon soup with kazari-gan, finding the sweetness and aroma just right, and the texture not too heavy. The white dumplings were soft, and the combination of persimmon and nuts was harmonious. The apple kazari-gan, made with white bean paste, pink pepper, dried apple, and cashew nuts, had a refreshing apple flavor that was interesting. The reviewer found the avant-garde kazari-gan to be surprisingly delicious and would like to try other varieties in the future, despite the location being a bit difficult to reach.

Today, I went to the Nishijin area of Kyoto and stopped by a cafe I had been wanting to visit. Umezono Chabo is a cafe styled after the famous Umeen in Kyoto. While Umeen is known for its Mitarashi Dango, this cafe's specialty seems to be the "Kazari Kanten" dessert. I placed my order on the first floor, along with a drink and the Kazari Kanten. After ordering, I went up to the second floor where there were table seats. The interior had wooden floors and white walls, giving off a renovated machiya vibe. Shortly after, the staff brought my tea and dessert. The Kazari Kanten (Lemon) had a base made of red bean paste solidified with agar and bracken powder, flavored with lemon. It was topped with whipped cream, roasted green tea powder, and dried lime. The Kazari Kanten had a smooth texture with a refreshing lemon flavor. The roasted green tea powder added an interesting touch with its tea aroma, while the dried lime provided a tangy and bitter contrast. I also had the Hojicha Yagurien tea, which was prepared in a teapot with enough water for one cup. They also provided a pot for second and third infusions. With ample tea and a relaxing atmosphere, it's a lovely cafe to spend some leisure time.

I rarely eat shaved ice, but with the hot and humid days continuing, I decided to try some seasonal fruit shaved ice! I had a mix of Kyoho grapes and pear on top of the shaved ice, with sweet red bean paste and mochi balls at the bottom. I don't usually eat shaved ice, but this felt like a more sophisticated version for adults. The ice melted and mixed with the red bean paste, creating a refreshing and elegant dessert. I went to a nearby gallery and stopped by a shop to wait for some time. I've been to this shop a few times, but this was my first time trying their shaved ice. The sweets were beautiful, and the shaved ice had a refined and adult-like quality to it. I want to be someone who enjoys this kind of cold and sophisticated dessert until the very end.

A charming old house cafe with a black curtain near Kurama-kuchi Station, about a 20-minute walk away. After ordering and paying, head up the steep stairs to the second floor. There are counter seats for 3 people, table seats for 2 people, and table seats for 4 people. The counter seats were crowded, so it's best to visit when you have some extra time. I ordered the "New ginger and peach shiruko ice with decoration soup set" for ¥1780 (tax included). The cold shiruko with fresh ginger honey ice and white peach was surprisingly good with a spicy kick from the ginger. The bottom was filled with red bean paste, so you can enjoy it until the end. I also got the decoration soup set with lemon flavor. There are 8 different flavors to choose from, so I want to try others next time. Payment can be made with cash, credit card, ID, or transportation cards. It was delicious, and I would love to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

I actually wanted to go to the cafe next door, but it was crowded, so I chose this one. This place is also featured in magazines and is quite popular, so I thought it would be a safe choice. I visited on a Sunday at 4 pm during the middle day of a 3-day weekend. The place was about 70% full. I ordered a parfait which came with a cup of green tea for 1200 yen. It also came with a small cup of hot water. The service was slow, it took about 30 minutes for the parfait to arrive. The parfait itself was not very elaborate, just some meringue, sweet red bean paste, and small pieces of cut fruit under the ice cream. The green tea served was not tasty, it was too weak. The portion size of the parfait was small, and for the price of 1200 yen, I felt it was a bit expensive. However, since this is Kyoto, I understand that cafes here tend to be pricier. I know not to expect good value for money in Kyoto cafes. I had a better experience at Kikunoi's cafe in Gion, even though it was a bit more expensive, the atmosphere and service were great. Unfortunately, this cafe lacked that kind of comfortable and satisfying environment. They didn't seem to pay much attention to creating a space where customers could relax. There were no baskets for bags, no backrests on the chairs, and nowhere clear to put coats. The chairs were uncomfortable and the thin cushions were inadequate. The restroom had a flimsy lock and no mirror for makeup touch-ups. Nowadays, it's important for women to have a nice restroom experience, not just for using the facilities. The lack of paper towels for drying hands was also disappointing. For a quick ramen shop, comfort may not be a priority, but for a cafe where customers are paying a higher price, comfort should be considered. Additionally, the conversations inside the cafe were quite loud, which was a bit distracting.

I visited this place a while ago. I ordered two seasonal items: Warm Apple Shiruko and Kazari Kanten. The warm apple shiruko had fresh apples, raspberry, and cooked apples in it. There were dried apple slices and chewy white mochi. The sweet red bean paste with the tartness of the raspberry complemented the crunchy apples well. As for the apple in the kazari kanten, I usually buy apples this time of year, but it seemed to have a lighter apple flavor than usual. Maybe it was because I had it after eating the shiruko, but it felt less rich than I expected.

Decorative jelly shop. I didn't find it very delicious when I tried the decorative jelly before, but it tasted different when paired with delicious tea. Delicate flavor. I had matcha, and it had a taste that was hard to describe, not quite like traditional Kyoto sweets, but there seemed to be some commonality. It made me feel solemn.

Umezono Teahouse is a sweet shop located a 15-20 minute walk from Anamaguchi Station. It has a traditional Japanese house atmosphere where you can enjoy traditional Japanese sweets and Kyoto tea. The service is polite and friendly. Since it's a bit far from the station, it's not too crowded and you can enjoy a quiet time, making it easy to visit even on weekends. We ordered the popular burnt sugar pudding with cream and cinnamon powder, as well as hojicha tea. The burnt sugar pudding, available only from autumn to winter, has a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness, enhanced by the cream and cinnamon powder. They also provide a hot water pot so you can enjoy multiple cups of hojicha tea at your own pace. I highly recommend visiting this place. Thank you for the delicious meal!

After enjoying delicious soba noodles, I visited "Umezono Chabo" as per my daughter's request. We arrived around 12 o'clock on Sunday and found no other customers. The system was to order and pay first. The display case was filled with tempting desserts, making it hard to choose. I ordered the "Apple Chamomile Japanese Black Tea" and the seasonal tea "Fig and Chestnut." The gentle aroma of chamomile mixed with Japanese black tea and the slight acidity of apple was delightful. The fruity fig and rich chestnut flavor of the dessert was also delicious. We had a wonderful time in the stylish old Japanese house cafe.

I ordered the Matcha flavored Kazari Gyūan at Umezono Chaho, a hidden gem renovated from a 100-year-old townhouse. Kazari Gyūan is a sweet red bean paste molded with agar and bracken starch, topped with whipped cream, giving it a cute appearance. The texture is smooth with a slight lingering sensation of the bean paste. The matcha flavor is intense and deep, providing a luxurious taste to this traditional Japanese confection. It was delicious!

I finally went to eat the fruit jelly I had been craving. I ordered on the 1st floor and went to the eat-in space on the 2nd floor. What I ordered this time: - Raspberry fruit jelly - Iced coffee The appearance was very beautiful. The taste was fruity and the sweet and sour flavor was addictive. I regret not ordering a different flavor. The iced coffee was refreshing and easy to drink. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again. *All photos were taken with permission from the restaurant.
