In the Setana area, there is a long-established ryokan famous for its day trip hot spring baths at the Kaitorimoe public bathhouse. When checking in, the front desk staff mentioned that it's the season with a lot of stink bugs, but it turned out to be not as bad as expected. The room was a traditional Japanese-style room with a shared toilet and sink. It felt like a unique experience, almost like a health retreat or boarding house. The futon was prepared and could be pulled out for sleeping. For dinner, we had a kaiseki course with simmered, grilled, sashimi, and rice with abalone. It was quite a filling meal. After finishing, we put the dishes in the collection box next to the door. For breakfast, there was a buffet with a variety of dishes. Overall, it was a great value with a full meal and natural hot spring water flow, so I highly recommend it.

I bought some sake at Sakamoto Shoten in Muroran and finally visited Awabi Sanso, a place I've wanted to go for a long time. I love the hot and brownish hot springs in southern Hokkaido. I love hot water! On this day, there were probably only two groups of guests staying at the inn, including us. There were quite a few day-trip hot spring visitors as well. We soaked in the hot springs and then eagerly awaited dinner. We had a set of four abalone dishes. Due to the current situation, they didn't bring the food to our room, but we had dinner in a different room, one room per group. They said, "Feel free to bring your own alcohol to enjoy with the meal." So we brought beer and sake without hesitation, as it would have been expensive otherwise. We had tempura, chawanmushi, steamed pork pot, beef tataki, etc., but the main focus was on abalone, as this hot spring inn is known for it. The abalone sashimi liver, innards, and kimo were delicious. The texture was firm, soft, and tasty. Of course, the adductor muscle was also crunchy. But I particularly like the liver. The dancing grilled abalone was placed on the fire and started moving in circles. Instead of feeling cruel, it seemed delicious. It wasn't tough, and I finished it in two bites. The carefully selected abalone dishes were Chinese-style and cooked tenderly. The sauce was delicious. The abalone rice with mountain vegetables had a cooking time of about 30 minutes. We started the fire early. The sake called "Hanagaki" that I tried for the first time decreased rapidly. I usually drink more than I eat, but on this day, I both ate and drank a lot. However, I ended up leaving half of the abalone rice and took it back to the room. Of course, my memory was hazy.

I stayed and had a room service meal with abalone dishes. The portion size was good and the cost performance was not bad. It's a bit disappointing that drinks like beer run out quickly, but I recommend it if you want to enjoy abalone.

The abalone and clams were very delicious, in my opinion. Other meals were also quite tasty, but I didn't need any strange sashimi. I wish they had served local fish instead. By the way, the hot springs were amazing. The staff provided transportation, so even as someone who relies on public transportation, it was not a problem (the staff even took me to a shrine with steep stairs, thank you!). Please note that this is a personal experience and opinion.

A course full of abalone, with a separate private room for dinner provided. You can enjoy a lot of fresh and delicious abalone, very satisfying.

Visited Awabi Sanso for the first time in a year on November 4, 2016. This time, I dropped off my parents in Setana-cho Taisei-ku and then headed to Awabi Sanso. I arrived around 10:15 am and decided to take a bath first. The hot spring water this time was clear and transparent, unlike the muddy water I experienced last year. I soaked for about 5 minutes while listening to music in my head. The indoor bath was not as hot as I expected, but it was still relaxing. The outdoor bath was a bit cooler, but I enjoyed alternating between the two baths. For lunch, I decided to try the Setana Seafood Curry, which included abalone. The curry had a slightly spicier flavor than last year, and the seafood ingredients were cut into smaller pieces for easier eating. The surprise addition of fried mashed potato was a nice touch. Overall, the curry was delicious and worth trying. I look forward to trying other dishes on my next visit. Last year, I also visited Awabi Sanso after dropping off my parents. I enjoyed the hot spring with its dark brown water and had the Awabi Kamameshi for lunch. This year, I tried the Setana Seafood Curry, which was sweet and flavorful with generous portions of scallops and abalone. It was a satisfying meal and I would recommend it.

Played at Kitahikosan and Imakin, and on the way back, visited this hot spring. There are plenty of hot springs around here, so it was hard to choose. Managed to get in before the overnight guests arrived, around 3 o'clock. Phew, any hot spring will do. Met at the refreshment corner and waited while drinking fruit milk. Before that, I explored the souvenir shop, but the ice cream seemed like something you could find anywhere. I wanted to buy some yokan as a souvenir. So, sorry for only drinking fruit milk.

On the third day, we stayed at the "Kokumin Shukusha Awabi Sanso" in Setana-cho, Hokkaido. We booked a plan for one night with dinner included for 6,770 yen. Each person gets their own abalone. Additional orders are possible, but must be placed by 7:00 pm. The abalone dishes available for additional order seem to lack volume for the price of 1,000 yen. Since it is a national lodging facility, it may not be suitable for those expecting high service. The rooms do not have private bathrooms, so they are shared. Remember to bring your own bath towels. The lack of a refrigerator in the room was a bit tough, but the bath was very relaxing. We were able to enjoy two different hot springs here, so we were very satisfied.

Hokkaido Setana Town "Kokumin Shukusha Awabi Sanso" offers a one-night stay with two meals for 7,600 yen. During dinner, a small-sized farmed Hime Ezo abalone is included. For those who love abalone, additional abalone can be added for 800 yen each. The cooking variety is diverse. Encounter: In June 2002, during my third "Hokkaido Coastal Road Trip," I discovered this place. I had abalone sashimi, abalone water shell, and grilled abalone for lunch at the dining hall. That's when I decided to stay here the following year. The route was from Hakodate to Matsumae to Esashi to Setana Town to Shakotan to Otaru on the Japan Sea side, running along the coast. About 50 kilometers and a 50-minute drive from Esashi, you will see the sign for "Awabi Sanso" just before the L-shaped curve. Follow the sign towards the mountains from the sea for 500 meters to arrive. On the way, you will pass the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Seedling Development Center, where all the farmed Hime Ezo abalones come from. Past: Eight years ago, in July 2003, I stayed at this accommodation. There was no air conditioning, and I struggled with just a room fan. Since then, I haven't stayed here. At that time, the basic fee included one farmed Hime Ezo abalone during dinner. I added more abalone when making a reservation. (It was cheaper eight years ago.) Additional: I ordered abalone sashimi, abalone water shell, grilled abalone, and abalone rice for a total of 7,210 yen. The prices have increased compared to eight years ago, but the size remains the same. I noticed a notice that was not there before. "Please return the breakfast tray to the kitchen." I had lunch at the dining hall three to four times, but unfortunately, I did not have a good impression of the staff. I hope they can be more polite and responsive to customers' inquiries. In conclusion, the staff's behavior improved at night, with two female staff members serving each room. They were polite and responsive to requests for additional abalone. The total cost for one night with the basic fee, additional farmed Hime Ezo abalone, and drinks was around 17,000 yen. Is the price of farmed Hime Ezo abalone (small size) at 800 yen per piece reasonable or expensive? Photos: 1. Exterior 2. Adjacent Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Seedling Development Center The corridor to the large communal bath seemed a bit distant. The outdoor bath was better than the indoor bath. Recommended. In midsummer, having air conditioning in the room would be nice!

This is a review of a national lodging facility in Setana Town, located in the southern part of Hokkaido, on the Japan Sea side. The dinner at this national lodging facility was surprisingly enjoyable. There were a few things to note: 1) No bath towels in the room, as mentioned on the website. 2) No refrigerator in the room, but they provide a cooler with ice packs. 3) No air conditioning, only a fan. 4) The outdoor bath is not available due to many horseflies. 5) Dinner is served until 7 pm, after which the service staff is no longer available, so they leave the food in the room. 6) Breakfast starts at 8 am, but they accommodated an earlier time when requested. 7) There is no elevator for heavy luggage. 8) No private bathroom in the room. 9) The facilities are old as expected. The dinner included abalone sashimi and steamed abalone with other ingredients, which were enjoyable. Overall, the meal was decent for the price of around 8000 yen for two meals. The national lodging facility provided what was expected for the price, but there were some limitations in terms of service hours and facilities.

I was a little disappointed, maybe because I had heard too much about it before going. I stayed for one night and two days, and I had high expectations for dinner because of the name "Abalone Lodge." However, the abalone was only served as sashimi, and you had to order more if you wanted more. Breakfast was served in the dining hall and consisted of natto and boiled fish. None of the food was particularly delicious. But for less than 8000 yen for one night and two meals, I guess it's not too bad. The toilet and washroom are shared, and there is a small outdoor bath and sauna available.

The review is about the meals provided during the stay at the accommodation. The restaurant offers a variety of menu items from ramen to grilled fish set meals during lunchtime. The dinner costs 2300 yen for adults and offers a generous portion. However, the reviewer feels that considering the location, more unique dishes could be offered instead of just abalone sashimi. The additional menu includes a variety of abalone dishes, but with the large portion size, it is difficult to try them all. The reviewer suggests reducing the portion size and offering more local specialties (seafood and mountain delicacies) to make the dining experience more appealing. It is mentioned that there are plenty of Hokkaido-specific dishes that could be served. However, the reviewer feels disappointed that the restaurant did not take advantage of this opportunity.

[Record] When staying at the inn, be aware that abalone sashimi and grilled abalone must be ordered separately. The dinner included abalone in puff pastry.
