The entrance is designed with wooden vertical lattice to give a modern feel, but the second floor remains untouched, giving off a rusty impression that cannot be hidden. I was greeted by the chef standing inside the L-shaped counter with 10 seats, and I was seated at the end of the counter with a white wood design. Although the overall interior felt a bit cheap, there are VIP rooms for 10 people on the second floor and 3 private rooms, so it may not be a big concern for solo diners or casual gatherings. For lunch, in addition to the standard four dishes, there were four recommended dishes available. I was hoping for simmered fish, but unfortunately, it was not available, so I decided to have the "seafood bowl and tempura." Although it was a half size, the seafood bowl was topped with sea bream and salmon, and a side dish of simmered sea bream roe was included, giving a taste of a small restaurant. However, the shrimp used in the tempura set was processed with water retention, and the strong smell was disappointing. Overall, the lunch set was satisfying in terms of taste and service for the price, but it may be challenging to transition to the dinner course.)

I knew the location of Sumiyoshi Shrine, so I walked towards there and used my smartphone navigation to find the place. It seemed like a small traditional restaurant with mainly Japanese cuisine, and they also offered lunch. There was only a sign next to the door, and it seemed like a place where regular customers frequent. There was a man in a suit standing in front of the door, which made it a bit intimidating to enter, but I asked if it was okay to go in, and I did. The first floor was just a counter, and they mentioned there was a second floor as well. It was lunchtime on a weekday, so there were many male customers in business attire. The owner was a Softbank Hawks fan, and there were many player autographs and signed balls behind the counter. The sashimi and tempura were delicious, and I thought it was a great deal for 1,100 yen. The restaurant was clean and spacious, allowing for a relaxed dining experience. The staff were friendly, and I imagined it would be fun to have drinks and chat with them in the evening. The only downside was that the toilet was right next to the counter, so it might be inconvenient to use it when there are customers sitting nearby.

It included horse mackerel nanban, tempura, sashimi, miso soup, and pickles for only 1100 yen! It's quite cheap for the Hakata area, isn't it? The fish was very fresh and the slices were thick and delicious. The horse mackerel nanban had slightly tough bones, but the taste was really good! The tempura was also excellent! It's no wonder since it's a traditional Japanese restaurant. The service was quick, so I didn't have to wait long to eat. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I noticed that the popular restaurants I wanted to go to were quite crowded, so I ended up visiting a place called "Tensai" that was located on the nearby street. They had lunch menus displayed outside with photos, and the prices seemed reasonable. Upon entering, I found the interior to be cozy with dim lighting, wooden decor, and a calming atmosphere. I sat at the counter and ordered their signature dish, the "Tempura Set Meal" priced at 800 yen. In less than 10 minutes, the tempura set meal arrived. It included 2 prawns, squid, yellowtail, eggplant, shiitake mushroom, green pepper, and pumpkin, all served in decent portions. I started by trying the green pepper, which had a crispy texture as if it was freshly fried. I dipped it in the tempura dipping sauce with grated radish and ginger. Next, I enjoyed one of the prawns, which was not too big but deliciously crispy. The miso soup served as a side had a refreshing yuzu flavor. Although the price range for tempura set meals may differ in Fukuoka, where I am from, I believe that the quality and quantity of food, along with the ambiance of this restaurant, make it a great deal at 800 yen. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

The tempura had large seafood ingredients and being freshly fried was a plus. It would have been nice to have one more side dish, but for 800 yen, it was a good deal.

You might need to come here at night to give an accurate evaluation. The set meal was delicious, but I felt it lacked a standout factor.

It looked like a high-end restaurant, but they had affordable options and let us in. The food was delicious and the owner was very friendly and shared interesting stories with us.

We used the restaurant with a small number of people at night. I was pleasantly surprised by the intricately prepared small dishes served at the beginning. The sashimi was fresh and of high quality, tasting better than at a high-end restaurant. We were satisfied with the fried dishes and hot pot as well. The young chef is talented, his flavors are truly authentic! We will definitely visit again.

The food was delicious, and we were able to enjoy our meal. A student working on their first day handled our orders. They seemed to have a lot to learn on their first day, so the communication was a bit difficult, but they had a great personality and made the experience enjoyable. It was fortunate that it wasn't a formal occasion, as it would have been more challenging if it was.
