Located next to Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto, this Western confectionery store opened at the end of August 2018. The store has a small but clean and beautiful interior with seating for about 8 people. I decided to try the chocolate mousse and coffee, and it was a great choice. The chocolate mousse was exquisite, with layers of orange and banana mousse inside, complemented by the sweet milk chocolate and a refined sweetness. It was the best chocolate cake I've ever had. The coffee was rich but easy to drink, pairing perfectly with the cake. I also bought a lemon cake as a souvenir, which was incredibly delicious. Everything in this store is delicious, with each confection showing a lot of thought and effort put into it. I believe this store will become a famous one, with such wonderful confections.

After visiting Shimogamo Shrine, I casually stopped by this place. In the showcase, there were cakes made with muscat grapes. I ordered and paid at the register, costing around 1700 yen for a cake and a cup of black tea. I chose a shortcake from the various cakes made with muscat grapes. The muscat grapes were sweet, and the not-too-sweet whipped cream complemented them well. The sponge cake was like castella, and I think there was honey in the batter. The black tea had a pleasant aroma and was easy to drink without any strong flavors. I would like to try buying some baked goods from the store next time.

First visit. It was a Sunday afternoon, a little after 2 o'clock. I peeked inside around 1 o'clock and saw that the restaurant was crowded with people, so I decided to have lunch at a nearby Western-style restaurant before visiting. Since it was my first time, I chose some basic items: - Chocolat Classique - Eclair Caramel - Chou Classique - Camembert Cheese Tart - Lemon Cake Grignier d'Or The chef is from France, so I was looking forward to trying something with chocolate. The Chocolat Classique was a moist chocolate cake that melted in my mouth when I took a sip of espresso. The Eclair Caramel had a rich caramel cream filling that blended with the pastry, creating a lingering sweetness. The Camembert Cheese Tart had a soft and mellow cheese flavor with a subtle saltiness. The Chou Classique had a moist and flavorful cream filling. The Lemon Cake had a fragrant lemon sponge covered in sugar, leaving a soft sweetness. I remember being taken to Paris for the first time around the time of the Heisei era. On the second evening, we went to a square called Madeleine with beautiful illuminations, surrounded by famous food shops like Ladurée and Fauchon. The Fauchon cakes were beautifully decorated, and even a clumsy man like me couldn't help but be captivated by them. I remember buying a small cake for around 5,000 yen and eagerly eating it in my hotel room, only to be surprised by the intense sweetness of French desserts. It was then that I realized Japanese cakes are made less sweet for Japanese tastes. Since then, I have preferred black espresso with my desserts, a habit I picked up from Paris and continued in Italy, where even breakfast pastries were sweet. This experience made me curious about French cakes, but it seems that they have been adapted to suit Japanese tastes. Overall, I enjoyed trying the different cakes at the restaurant, which had a slightly different sweetness compared to traditional French pastries. I look forward to trying their fruit cakes next time. Additional note: The cakes were placed in a paid paper bag, which had a delightful fluffy texture that made carrying it enjoyable. I will keep it safe as a memento.

White Peach Parfait for ¥864. It seems to be the last peach dessert of the season. The peach was fresh and delicious. There were also some cookies and other items that looked good for souvenirs. They also had sweets made with Shine Muscat grapes.

Visited the store around 11 am on August 26, 2023. There was one customer before me. I had the Summer Apple Tart Tatin for 842 yen, which had a strong and refreshing acidity from the Genova apples. It was soft and had a jam-like texture. I also tried the Kyoto Fig Pie for 788 yen, which was sweet and delicious. Seasonal fruits are always the best choice.

I visited this restaurant because it was close by. The interior had a seating area where some ladies were having a tea party. I also bought Financier and Coconut White Chocolate Cookies as souvenirs. The Coconut White Chocolate Cookies cost 918 yen, but they were just okay for me. I prefer cookies with a crunchier texture. The Lemon Cake was delicious with a refreshing lemon flavor and a crispy sugar coating. I'm not sure about the difference between a Royal Milk Tea Granita Frappuccino and a Granita, but the Earl Grey aroma was strong, and there was panna cotta at the bottom. Mixing it made the tea taste even creamier. It was delicious!

This shop is located about a 10-minute walk from Demachiyanagi Station. When I visited around 10:40 on a holiday, there were already 2 customers ahead of me. More customers arrived afterwards. Even though they said that dine-in service starts at 11:00, they accommodated me. Dine-in requires ordering at least one drink. The classic choux cream costs 432 yen, and the cafe latte costs 649 yen. The order was served in about 5 minutes. Depending on how busy they are, it may take longer to receive your order. The choux cream had a rich cream filling and was quite filling. This is a great place to visit when you're craving a classic cake. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

On March 25, 2023, I went to La KLASSIQUE! The owner chef, Masaya Kato, trained at Au Grenier d'Or for 12 years before becoming independent in August 2018. There are 5 seats at the table. Although the seating capacity is not very large, it is nice that you can eat in. Eating in is available from 11:00 am! Plantaire Sweet and sour strawberries with rich pistachio cream flavor. You can feel a pleasant harmony after the impact of the ingredients. Chocolat Classique A crumbly chocolate with a rich and easy-to-eat texture. It is rich but easy to eat. It is a bit of a walk from Demachiyanagi Station, but it might be nice to visit along with Shimogamo Shrine. Located near Shimogamo Shrine, "La Classic" is run by a chef who used to work at the renowned restaurant "Oguriendo." The lemon cake I tried this time had a perfect balance of refreshing lemon acidity and sweet cake base. It was delicious! I'm eyeing the cookie tin for my next visit.

I visited just before Valentine's Day. The shop is run by a pastry chef who trained at the famous restaurant Au Grenier d'Or. I was surprised to see that there were no traces of Valentine's Day decorations at all. They had some products available for the occasion, but there were no heart shapes or anything like that. The shop gives off a calm and sophisticated vibe. I don't remember the individual prices, but I paid a total of 4752 yen. I first bought chocolates for my husband. They had a variety of tablet chocolates including Classic Caraque 56%, Gimaras 66%, Guayaquil 64%, Lacte 38%, Dulce 35%, Nue Blanc 37%, Ruby, and Butterfly Pea, all in 2-piece sets. They are simple square chocolates, but what caught my eye was the blue chocolate. The White Chocolate with Butterfly Pea, a herb from the legume family, was particularly interesting. They all had a smooth and creamy texture and were on the sweeter side. For myself, I got a cookie assortment including Vanilla Sablé, Pig-shaped cookies, Strawberry Jam Sandwich cookies, Chocolate piping cookies, Berry piping cookies, and cute lemon-flavored icing cookies in the shape of a pig. The Vanilla Sablé cookie was especially delicious - crispy and buttery. It was past 3 o'clock, so there weren't many cakes left. They all had a very classic look, no flashy decorations. I guess that's the shop's policy.

I received La Classic's icing cookies. The packaging and appearance are very cute and uplifting. The taste is lemon icing, which is delicious. The cookies are shaped like pigs and are irresistibly cute! It's almost a shame to eat them. I felt that they would make a perfect gift.

Visited the store around 11:30 AM on December 10, 2022. There were about 7 customers already. I tried the seasonal items Gâteau Poire and Pear Tart, with only about 3 tarts left. Unfortunately, they were out of Tarte Tatin. The cakes here are quite large, so having two can be quite filling. The Gâteau Poire had a rich mousse filling which was excellent. The Pear Tart was refreshing with juicy pears, although I wish the tart crust was baked a bit more.

I visited the shop almost at opening time. There were already about two groups of customers, so I didn't take any photos inside. I was about to go visit shrines and temples, so I bought some easy-to-carry baked goods while admiring the delicious and beautiful cakes. I purchased the following items: Sablé Banille - 885 yen, Scone - 345 yen, Lemon Cake - 378 yen, and Ume Linzer Torte - 388 yen. The scone was recommended by the staff and it was different from those at bakeries, being packed with filling despite its size. The Lemon Cake was amazing, with a sugar coating on the outside and a refreshing lemon flavor inside. The Ume Linzer Torte had a nice balance of sweet and sour from the ume, and was relatively moist. The Sablé Banille had a simple flavor with the richness of fermented butter. I was also very interested in the cookie tin with various types of cookies. I wonder if they offer shipping services.

Cookie tin priced at 4,968 yen. I fell in love with the cookie tin when I saw it in a magazine. I had always wanted to buy it someday! When I arrived around lunchtime, I was lucky that it was not sold out and I was able to purchase it. It's a jewel box containing 14 types of cookies. To be honest, there are some flavors that are not to my liking, but still, having a new favorite in my collection makes me very satisfied.

Since last year, the French Patisserie Week has been mainly started in Tokyo, where all participating stores create a limited dessert with a common theme for one month in July. Last year it was Paris-Brest, and this year it's Millefeuille. I was envious last year because it was only in the Tokyo area, but this year the number of participating stores has increased significantly, with Kyoto and Osaka also participating. I had been thinking about visiting this lemon cake that I was interested in, and just then, the Millefeuille participating in the Patisserie Week was a must-try. The Millefeuille costs 702 yen and features cherry in the first half of July, but it was changed to Nagano Prefecture strawberries (Suzuakane) on the day of my visit. The strawberries had a strong acidity and a hint of sweetness, complemented by a rich custard and fine-textured pastry. The custard was quite rich and sweet, satisfying the taste buds. The pastry was also delicious with no complaints. The Earl Grey and Caramel Eclair costs 453 yen and features a rich cream, but it could have had a stronger Earl Grey or caramel flavor. The choux pastry was chewy and fragrant, making it worth the price. The Lemon Cake costs 334 yen and is highly recommended by dessert bloggers. The dense and fine-textured dough melts in the mouth, and the glaze on top should be refrigerated during this season to prevent melting. It is recommended to leave it at room temperature for about 30 minutes before eating for a softer texture. Personally, I prefer a fluffy lemon cake, so this authentic dough may not be to my liking. I realized that I prefer the fluffy type from cafes, American bakeries, and pastry shops rather than the authentic French confectionery type. The Galette Bretonne costs 324 yen and is quite large, feeling worth the price. Among the Galette Bretonne I have tried, this one has the strongest sweetness, with a crispy and crunchy texture, making it suitable for those who like that texture. The Camembert cheesecake I tried on my first visit and the Lemon Cake this time were not to my liking, but both are highly rated by professionals. These pastries are recommended for personal use or as gifts, and I hope to visit again.

Near the Shimogamo Shrine, there is a cake shop famous for its lemon cake. I have visited a few times but unfortunately they are closed on Sundays so I couldn't buy any. Luckily, they were open on a Saturday when I visited and I got some for takeout. The lemon cake, eclair, and pudding were all beautifully made and delicious, with a refreshing taste.

・La Classic (tax included 918 yen) and Shoe Classic (tax included 378 yen) - The top crust is crispy while the bottom crust is moist, offering different textures! The custard cream has a subtle egg flavor, not too sweet, just right and delicious! The perfect balance between the crust and cream makes it incredibly delicious! By the way, the powdered sugar on top is tasty, but it flies everywhere when eaten outside, haha. Seriously, this might be the best shoe cream I've ever had! ・Camembert Cheese Tart (tax included 540 yen) - I thought it was a rare cheese tart, but no, it's Camembert cheese, haha. It had a unique flavor to it. I've never consciously eaten a Camembert cheese cake before. The top might be orange-based. Overall, it has a slight acidity and is easy to eat quickly, a cheese cake that goes well with the cheese! The tart crust is moist and not crispy. Lemon cake, Mont Blanc sold out.

Visited the store at 11:50 on January 22, 2022. Few customers at the shop. Bought the last Maron cake for 540 yen and the Classic Chocolate for 648 yen. The chocolate cake is finely sliced and rich but easy to eat. The Maron cake is large and has a strong presence. The atmosphere is overly sweet, so I would like some variety.

The lemon cake from this renowned patisserie in Kamigamo is famous for its crispy sugar-coated surface. The lemon flavor is delicious, and the appearance is cute. It's no wonder the chef trained at the prestigious Kyoto's hidden gem, "Au Grenier d'Or."

The KLASSIQUE Strawberry Shortcake and Paris-Brest are must-haves this season. The strawberry shortcake with big strawberries is light and refreshing with plenty of whipped cream. The crispy Paris-Brest is rich in flavor but not too heavy, leaving a refreshing aftertaste. I plan to visit again soon for these spring sweets. Please check the official website for the latest information.
