I visited this restaurant after seeing Matsumae Castle for lunch on a regular day. There were various menu options, but as a fan of seaweed, I decided to try the Matsumae Iwanori Dango from the ticket machine, priced at 1500 yen, which seemed a bit expensive. When my number was called, I received my dish. The restaurant wasn't too crowded. The seaweed, hand-picked, had a wonderful flavor, and the portion of rice was on the smaller side. I finished it quickly. I still think 1500 yen is a bit pricey for a seaweed bento box, but it was visually impressive, so I'll let it slide. Overall, the prices here are on the higher side, possibly due to the influx of tourists. There are a few other places near Matsumae Castle that offer locally sourced lunches at a more affordable price, so I recommend checking those out instead. Thank you for the meal.

It was very crowded during cherry blossom season. The restaurant is located at a roadside station. I think most of the customers were tourists. I had the rock seaweed bento set meal. The taste was simple and delicious, but don't expect fancy decorations as it is a tourist spot restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

There were six people lined up in front of me before the store opened. I had tried to come here before but it was too crowded, so I went to a different restaurant. Today, I was able to get in and ordered a tuna bowl. It was a bit pricey at over 2000 yen, but the quality of the fatty tuna made it worth it.

I visited specifically to eat the "Matsue Iwa Nori Danju" but they were sold out. I was told that it is a menu that should be available all year round, but due to being featured on TV, it is in short supply. My husband, who was looking forward to it, was very disappointed. However, I thought that if you eat tuna on the Tsugaru Kaikyo Line in Oma, it's "Oma tuna," and if you eat it in Matsue, it's "Matsue tuna," so I decided to have tuna here. My husband had the Matsue tuna bowl, and I had the Matsue tuna medium fatty tuna bowl. The bowls were smaller than I expected (laughs), but I was able to finish it in one go, so I imagine it wouldn't be enough for a man. Thank you for the meal. I will have my revenge on the Iwa Nori Danju!

Today, I visited the Tsugaru Strait from the Japan Sea side, all the way to Matsumae Town, the southernmost point of Hokkaido. The sea in front of me is calm and the weather is clear, making it a perfect condition. I came across Umikaze Shokudo at Michi no Eki Kitamaeship Matsue, a place I didn't plan to visit, but when I saw the sign saying that if you want to eat fresh tuna, now is the time, I couldn't resist. The Tsugaru Strait is known for having the best tuna, and while Oma is famous, I'm sure that Matsumae also has good tuna being caught. I had to try it! I quickly ordered the Matsumae Honmaguro donburi with a meal ticket. It arrived in just 5 minutes, and the beautiful red and pink flesh was shining. This tuna was not frozen! The lean meat was incredibly smooth and had a good balance of acidity and umami. It was fresh without any fishy smell. The medium fatty tuna had a nice balance of acidity and sweetness from the fat. It was the best of both worlds between lean and fatty tuna. The fatty tuna in the center was the ultimate luxury, melting in my mouth instantly. This was probably my first experience with fresh tuna. Thank you for the delicious meal.

After visiting Matsumae Castle, I stopped by and had Matsumae local tuna rice bowl for 1,780 yen and Matsumae rock seaweed bento for 1,300 yen. Since I thought I wouldn't come back here again, I wanted to try the rock seaweed. I originally planned to buy it as a souvenir, but it was 4,000 yen for 5 sheets of seaweed, which was too expensive for me. So, I decided to eat the bento instead. The tuna in the rice bowl was delicious, including a fatty tuna part that was like Otoro. The rice portion was just right for me since I had to drive. The bento had a strong taste of the sea with the rock seaweed. Although it was a bit pricey at 1,300 yen, it was undeniably delicious. Rock seaweed seems to be expensive. Thank you for the meal!

A dining room where you can eat while looking at the sea. It's the perfect location for me, who didn't grow up in a seaside town. Enjoying seafood while looking at the view of Honshu (Tsugaru Peninsula in Aomori) from Hokkaido... What a luxurious experience. The Matsushima shrimp bowl is also incredibly delicious, making me want to live in this town!

This was my first visit to the restaurant at Matsue Michi-no-Eki since the management changed. It was very cold, so I decided to have katsu curry instead of seafood. The katsu was thicker than before and the curry was spicier, making it more delicious in my opinion.

It was a cold and windy day in December, but the roadside station was open. There were quite a few people who seemed to be working, enjoying their meals. Curry rice for 650 yen, Matsumae bluefin tuna bowl for 1680 yen, and Matsumae pickles for 250 yen were on the menu. It said they have their own original curry with a spicy kick, which is nice that it's not pre-made. The tuna was also pretty good! It seems like they will have menu items like spear squid and striped shrimp when spring comes. They also have rock seaweed available.

We spent our second night in a camping car at the parking lot of Kitamae Ship Michi-no-Eki in Matsumae. We visited Matsumae Castle, Matsumae Park, and the Matsumae Clan Residence. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, with a few food stalls set up for a cherry blossom festival. There were many tourists around, all wearing masks due to the ongoing battle against the invisible enemy, COVID-19. For lunch, we planned to eat here and were willing to wait in line. Our 9-year-old son ordered the salt ramen, while my wife and I had the Matsumae Tuna Bowl. The salt ramen had a delicious soup with a hint of seaweed flavor from the shrimp, but our son didn't like the thick noodles. Personally, I think thinner noodles would have been better to soak up the soup. The Matsumae Tuna Bowl was absolutely delicious, with two pieces of fatty tuna on top of the tuna sashimi. It was definitely worth the wait and the price.

This is in Esashi Town, in the southern part of Hokkaido. It's a restaurant inside a roadside station. The building is new and clean. The restaurant is called Umikaze Shokudo, and it's quite charming. First, you buy a ticket from the vending machine. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered one W yakisoba and decided to split it in half. I bought the ticket and handed it to the staff at the back. They gave me a buzzer and I chose a seat. There are raised tatami seating, counter seating, and regular table seating available. It was a weekday lunchtime, so there were mostly locals. When the buzzer went off, I went to pick up my food. I wanted an extra pair of chopsticks, and when I asked, the staff kindly gave me a plate to put them on. The tea and water are self-service. There are condiments like soy sauce available on a shelf a little away from where the drinks are. I noticed they had uni salt (I think) among the condiments, which you can try before buying. I sprinkled a little on my yakisoba, and it tasted delicious. The yakisoba was full of ingredients. On my way out, I wanted to try the coffee-flavored soft-serve ice cream they mentioned, but it turned out they only had vanilla. I realized later that the vending machine wording was a bit confusing. It said they had coffee (for takeout) and soft-serve ice cream (for takeout), which made me misunderstand. It's easy to misinterpret, right? Or is it just me?

On this day, shortly after changing cars, I went to Matsumae to eat tuna while taking a drive. I found this restaurant through a search beforehand, and it was said to be a relatively new place, so it was my first visit. First, we choose our meal using the ticket machine, but on this day, they were sold out of medium fatty tuna. Both my companion and I chose the tuna bowl. After about 5 minutes, our names were called, and we went to pick up our food ourselves. We were seated at a table on the terrace side where we could see the sea, so the view was perfect. Now, how does the tuna in Matsumae perform!? The real wasabi was served, and I personally sprinkled soy sauce and put wasabi on the toppings each time. My companion made wasabi soy sauce and dipped the tuna in it. The tuna itself was very fresh red meat! However, it seemed like the good parts with a nice grain were used in other dishes? There were quite a few noticeable grainy parts for a strait tuna. The way it was cut was also more like randomly cut blocks rather than neatly laid out on the rice. However, it was an outstanding dish that covered everything with the goodness of the tuna itself! If you were to try to make this quality on your own, it would be impossible for 1500 yen. Considering it was a restaurant at a roadside station, I didn't have high expectations, so it exceeded my expectations quite a bit! Honestly, it was delicious!

I visited the Umikaze Shokudo at the Michinoku Road Station in Matsushima. They offer locally caught bluefin tuna, sea urchin, and fruit pork. I heard that their bluefin tuna nakaochi bowl is highly recommended, but unfortunately it was already sold out. This time, I tried the Umikaze bento for only 600 yen, which is a great deal. I would love to try the bluefin tuna next time if I have the chance.

Ten years ago, when I visited Matsumae Castle for my hobby of castle exploration, I had a delicious three-color bowl here, so I decided to visit again. However, this time I found out that the management had changed in April, and it was now a different shop. The menu consists of tuna bowls, curry, and ramen, all made with local ingredients. But if you are a tourist visiting from another place, the "Matsumae Special Tuna Bowl" is a must-try. The regular size bowl is already filled with plenty of medium fatty tuna! It is so delicious with a soft texture and a good amount of fat. The view from the restaurant is also amazing! You can see the Tsugaru Strait in front of you, and on a clear day, you can even see the Tsugaru Peninsula and Mount Iwaki. The tuna caught around here is just as high quality as the branded tuna caught in Oma on the opposite shore. In other words, you can enjoy the highest quality tuna bowl for only 1,500 yen, so you must try it!

Every slice melts in your mouth. The pickled fish and miso soup are also excellent. Great taste and location.

I tried the "Matsumae Hon Maguro Don" dish. The bowl felt smaller than I expected, but there was a good amount of tuna and rice. The tuna was soft and had no tough parts, making it very delicious to eat.

I stopped by before visiting Matsumae Town for sightseeing. Although it was September, I had a fresh sea urchin bowl. It was the same type of sea urchin that is found in my hometown. I enjoyed it deliciously while feeling nostalgic.

I had just finished eating lunch, but when I stopped by a roadside station, the pictures looked delicious so I couldn't help but order. The tuna was mediocre in terms of both freshness and taste. The 1,200 yen rock seaweed was dry and lacked flavor. It had a taste that evoked the scent of the seashore.
