I visited the "Santen Koyamichi Store," a branch of the "Washoku Sato" chain that opened on February 1st. When it first opened, it was crowded, but after a week, it started to get a bit less busy. It was my first time there, so I pressed the button for the default dish, the "Shrimp Tempura Rice Bowl" (390 yen tax included), at the ticket machine by the entrance and entered the restaurant with the ticket in hand. Inside, there was a large counter seat in the front and tables in the separated back area. Since I was alone, I sat at the counter and handed over my ticket. Although it was before noon, the restaurant was filled with the elderly generation, with no young people in sight, making it a surprising sight of mostly older couples! On the counter, there were shichimi spice, rice bowl sauce, pickled vegetables, and sprinkles, and I poured my own water. After waiting a few minutes, the "Shrimp Tempura Rice Bowl" arrived. The freshly fried tempura included two shrimp, sardines, okra, lotus root, and seaweed, served on hot rice with a light drizzle of rice bowl sauce. I dug in immediately! The freshly fried tempura was delicious, and the oil used was canola oil, making it cholesterol-free! The two shrimp were plump and perfectly fried! I added a bit more rice bowl sauce, which was nice as it allowed me to adjust the flavor to my liking! With a variety of tempura types, it was enjoyable to try different flavors! The rice portion was just right, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The other day, I had the tempura rice bowl from Sushiro's Sushiya (370 yen tax excluded), which had three slightly thin shrimp, squid, and shiso leaf, making it a good comparison! The tempura rice bowl from a tempura specialty store versus a sushi restaurant! Given that Santen opened in the former location of Kura Sushi, it might be a close match! A cheap and delicious tempura specialty store has opened nearby! Next time, I'll have to try the most expensive "Grand Slam Shrimp Tempura Set"! What? It costs 790 yen! It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!
