Visited "Kazahana" in Sapporo, Hokkaido, located at The Westin Rusutsu Resort. This restaurant offers both Japanese cuisine and teppanyaki. The resort hotel itself is very nice, with ski-in ski-out access to the slopes which are vast and challenging. The onsen facilities are also spacious and include a well-maintained sauna. "Kazahana" was a popular restaurant, so we made a reservation a few months in advance. The teppanyaki here was of a very high level, starting with a salad and sashimi as appetizers, then moving on to grilled dishes. The grilled shrimp was perfectly cooked, crispy even to the head, and the seafood dish featured large scallops and white fish, all sourced from Hokkaido. The main meat dish was flambeed before being cooked to a perfect medium rare, accompanied by delicious garlic chips. The garlic fried rice served as the finale was also exceptional. The secret to the delicious meal seemed to be the skilled chef, who was temporarily working at the restaurant from a Westin hotel in Ebisu, Tokyo. The combination of Hokkaido ingredients and Tokyo teppanyaki skills made for a truly enjoyable dining experience. The chef was also a great conversationalist, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal. I will definitely be back. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The guests staying on the tour seemed to be using meal coupons. The dinner was relatively affordable starting from 6600 yen for a Japanese meal, but the portion was small. The drinks were also reasonably priced. The food was served quickly, so you finish eating in no time. The asparagus tempura was large and juicy. The rice was deliciously sticky, typical of Hokkaido. The dessert, Mizuyokan, had plenty of dried figs on top and inside, which was nice.

I stayed at a hotel and dined at Teppanyaki Course Nanakamado in September. The meal included a seasonal appetizer, Hokkaido seafood, charcoal-grilled vegetables, sautéed snow crab, abalone and golden eye snapper, and Shiretoko black wagyu fillet. It was served with garlic rice, miso soup, and pickles, followed by a Mont Blanc dessert. The total cost was 25,500 yen. The food was delicious.

Teppanyaki Dinner During our family vacation in the summer, we stayed at The Westin and dined at the teppanyaki restaurant on the first day. The fresh ingredients from Hokkaido were all delicious. We enjoyed a variety of seafood, meat, and vibrant local vegetables prepared in different flavors. Even our 11-year-old son, who usually dislikes vegetables, enjoyed everything and cleaned his plate. It was a fantastic two hours where we could appreciate the chef's skills and hospitality with our eyes, ears, and taste buds. We were bid farewell warmly, making it a perfect hotel dinner experience.

I used it for breakfast on the second day. The service was just as expected from The Westin. I thought it could be a bit more luxurious, but it was sufficient. Buffet is nice, but I prefer the calmness of a Japanese set meal. I wonder if dinner is delicious too. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again if I go to Rusutsu.

During my stay, I visited the same restaurant again. After enjoying teppanyaki the previous night, this time I decided to try Japanese cuisine.
- Uni, ikura, crab three-color bowl 5,300 yen
- Hokkaido cod with Saikyo miso 1,200 yen~
- Botan shrimp
- Kombu with roe
- Konoshiro sardine nanban-zuke
- Salad
- Tempura assortment (5 kinds)
- Chawanmushi
- Cod with Saikyo miso
- Vanilla ice cream
- Tensho Otoko Yamayuzu special junmai sake
- Niseko junmai ginjo sake
We enjoyed wine the previous day, so this time we tried sake. We had various Hokkaido sake, all of which were delicious and paired well with the dishes. The food was served relatively quickly after ordering, and the staff was efficient, allowing us to enjoy our meal comfortably. The dishes showcased the best of Hokkaido's ingredients, from meat and fish to side dishes. The seafood, in particular, not only tasted great but also highlighted the quality of each ingredient. The skilled preparation of high-quality ingredients resulted in a delicious dining experience. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

On the night of the day I came to Rusutsu over the weekend, I had teppanyaki at The Westin Hotel. The seating was in a semi-circle surrounding the teppan, with about 10 people. They cooked the ingredients right in front of us.
Teppanyaki Course "Nanakamado" - 25,550 yen
- Appetizer: Cream cheese with Kyoto-style pickles, seared ham-wrapped scallops and shiitake mushrooms
- Sashimi: Hokkaido flatfish, squid, Botan shrimp, tuna
- Salad: Lightly roasted fruit tomatoes and green salad with balsamic and yogurt sauce
- Grilled dishes: Sauteed snow crab, sauteed natural abalone, Shiretoko black wagyu fillet
- Meal: Mini salmon roe bowl
- Dessert: Strawberry and vanilla red and white cake with raspberry sauce, seasonal fruits
They explained the ingredients while cooking, which made the meal taste even better. The snow crab was the biggest I've ever had, a truly luxurious experience. The selection of Hokkaido ingredients showcased the best of the region. Although the price was high, the satisfaction level exceeded it. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

At Westin Rusutsu's Japanese restaurant, Kazahana, you can choose from various courses, but I had the Hokkai Gozen, which is filled with Hokkaido's seafood delicacies such as salmon roe, crab, sea urchin, and Botan shrimp. It comes with fresh tofu skin, steamed egg custard, kelp with herring roe, miso soup, pickles, and dessert. The bowl is incredibly delicious, with plenty of fresh salmon roe that bursts with salty flavor.

I visited the Westin Resort in Rusutsu Village, Sorachi District, Hokkaido for breakfast. I thought the Japanese restaurant would be crowded, but it was actually the opposite. I was quickly seated for breakfast in the buffet-style dining area on the first floor. I chose apple juice for my drink and was also offered Yacon tea. The view outside the window was a beautiful snowscape. The meal included Yumepirika rice from Hokkaido, miso soup made with aged wheat miso, and a variety of daily dishes which were all delicious. After the meal, I enjoyed coffee and tea. The breakfast was included in my stay, but the cost for just the meal was 3,025 yen.

I chose the breakfast at The Westin. I had a choice between Yoichi apple juice or fresh orange juice. For a drink after the meal, I could choose between coffee or tea, and I opted for iced coffee. The grilled fish of the day was shima hokke. Everything was delicious. I was a bit disappointed with the rating, so I decided to have dinner at the buffet, but I deeply regretted not choosing this option. It used to be North Tower, but now it's under the Westin brand, so maybe things have changed? It seems that ordering from outside costs over 3000 yen, which might affect the rating. Despite not having high expectations, the breakfast was really delicious. Thank you for the meal.

On the 4th day of my mountain retreat, there was a blizzard all day so I didn't exercise. I had planned to go to a restaurant outside the resort, but it was impossible today. So, I took the monorail to have Japanese cuisine at The Westin. I had a kaiseki meal for 6300 yen. My daughter ordered a la carte. I had the Hokkaido set meal. It was a dinner on one tray. The main dish was a bowl of botan shrimp, salmon roe, crab, and sea urchin. It seems like my daughter made the right choice with the Fukahana kaiseki meal. The chef, Araki, was probably the same as last year. The kaiseki meal this year was also creatively presented. The grilled herring with roasted shad roe on top was a standout. The grilled cod milt that my daughter ordered also looked delicious.

The biggest drawback of Rusutsu Resort is the lack of nearby restaurants. Guests are forced to use either convenience stores or the restaurants within the facility. The restaurants within the facility all require guests to prepare for a dinner costing over 6,000 yen per person, making it tough for budget travelers to stay multiple nights. Now, let's get to the main topic. Hokkai Gozen... 6,300 yen Children's Gozen... 3,780 yen If you register as a member of the Marriott group, you will receive a 10% discount. Hokkai Gozen feels a bit lacking. The Children's Gozen is quite satisfying for its price.

The course menu for Japanese cuisine at The Westin is reasonably priced in the 6000 yen range. The wine list is extensive, and you can easily order additional drinks by catching the staff's attention when your glass is empty. The dishes are creatively flavored, especially the appetizers. The two additional dishes we ordered, the Rusutsu pork stew delighted my daughter, and the squid tempura was delicious. The set meal at the counter is priced at over 10,000 yen. Despite the impact of the coronavirus, the non-Japanese guest ratio is around 50%. It's been two seasons since I last visited Rusutsu Resort. This time, I made a reservation in September last year, and it was immediately accepted. Last season, I couldn't get a reservation, but this season, it seems that the number of ski guests from Korea has drastically decreased. I saw some staff members who have been taking care of me for over 20 years at the restaurant. I will continue to visit, so please keep up the good work.

Dinner was a la carte Japanese cuisine at the hotel. I ordered the "salad" for 830 yen, the ingredients were good but the dressing wasn't great. The "sashimi" for 3540 yen was okay. The "marinated squid" for 960 yen was good, but it was too cold. It was like a "loupe" maybe? It's unusual for squid... usually it's salmon. But when you put it in your mouth, it melts and tastes delicious. It's perfect as a side dish for alcohol. It might be tough for non-drinkers though. Ah, it would be delicious with hot white rice, probably. It's okay if you can't drink. The "braised pork" for 1200 yen was well cooked. The "grilled yellowtail" for 2940 yen was delicious! This is definitely an advantage of the local area! It's almost cheating. The "salmon miso soup" for 500 yen, made with kelp broth, was tasty.

Sea urchin ikura bowl. It was so delicious that I finished it in an instant. The melon melted in my mouth like juice.

After ordering, the food took a long time to arrive, and it was quite frustrating that the sashimi I ordered first ended up being served last. At that point, it's not even about the taste anymore.
