For a birthday celebration within our group, we visited "Izakaya Shogun" in Kincho, Rumoi City. Despite it being a Monday, the spacious restaurant was bustling with customers and full of energy. We were led to a private room and were amazed by the extensive menu. We started by ordering a draft beer and then proceeded to order various dishes such as Shogun platter, homemade pickled mackerel, steamed clams in sake, thick grilled egg with cod roe, beef tendon and tofu simmered dish, skewered beef tongue, ankake yakisoba, whale bacon, skewers, fried hormone chicken, and fried tofu. We enjoyed these dishes along with drinks like additional draft beer, highball, Dewar's highball, chilled sake, and finished with matcha zenzai and white rice cake porridge. Every dish we tried was delicious, especially the sashimi which was fresh and the Shogun platter which included shrimp, tuna, scallops, squid, yellowtail, salmon, sea urchin, and octopus. The homemade pickled mackerel was also flavorful with a nice amount of fat. The steamed clams in sake and thick grilled egg with cod roe were highlights as well. With such a wide and affordable menu, I would definitely become a regular customer if this restaurant were nearby. It's no wonder this place is always busy.
