On a regular lunch day, I visited Kushiro City. There was also some business to attend to, but on this day, there was a Nippon Ham Fighters official game at the Kushiro City Stadium, which I believe was the first time since August 2009. I didn't have a ticket, but I thought I would go and see anyway (actually, in 2009, I happened to be in Eastern Hokkaido and was able to enter with a same-day ticket). However, I heard on the radio that the tickets were sold out, so I changed my plans and headed to the local market to search for a good spot to eat. After researching various options, I ended up at this place, which was not my first, second, or third choice. Located near the entrance of the Washo Market on the station street side, this is one of the few shops in the market that is neatly enclosed. However, unlike the sushi restaurant next door, this place has menu items displayed prominently outside, making it seem more approachable. It was 11:50 am, with 4 groups of customers (7 people) already seated and a few more customers arriving later. The L-shaped counter had 11 seats, and there were 2 tables for 4 people each. A friendly middle-aged man welcomed me quietly, and there was a young woman serving in the hall. The menu included set meals, seafood bowls, and a special dish called "Kachidoni" where you can customize your own bowl with your favorite seafood. With too many menu options, I couldn't figure out what the recommended dishes were, but I was intrigued by the sign that read "Today's Special, limited to 10 servings," so I ordered the Washotei Special Salmon Bowl. It arrived soon after, with salmon marinated in a special sauce, sliced onions, and a soft-boiled egg on top - a seemingly foolproof bowl. However, I wasn't a fan of the marinade, and I don't like onions, so I wondered if the egg was really necessary. I should have ordered a dish that would allow me to taste the quality of the ingredients more directly since I was eating at the market. This was definitely a miss on my part. The miso soup had... oh, there's a snow crab in it! But I couldn't really taste the broth... it was a bit of a letdown. However, considering it was a service price, I could still accept it, but it could have been a disaster if I had made a mistake (^_^;) Nevertheless, the restaurant can cater to various needs and is user-friendly, so I think it's a good place. Washo Market! Please make it a more user-friendly facility for local residents. *The underground parking lot seems to have a time limit, but it's free to use. Be sure to come by car! Thank you for the meal.
