Strolling around the Nakasu Kawabata shopping street in Hakata, not the bustling downtown area of Nakasu, is the point! I happened to come across a sign that said "standing bar" with prices for draft beer and highballs at 290 yen each, which caught my attention. I imagined a casual atmosphere and decided to enter.
There was a space near the entrance for about 6-7 people to stand and drink. I started with a highball toast and tried some dishes like mentaiko cheese tamagoyaki, anago sushi, amaebi sushi, maguro sushi, and a sushi assortment. Everything was delicious with no disappointments.
I also tried a mini yukimi daifuku dessert and enjoyed a motsunabe (soy sauce) dish. The atmosphere was lively, and I could see the chefs cooking in the kitchen. The variety of local sake was impressive, and the staff were friendly and engaging in conversation.
The difference between standing and sitting drinking was mainly the price of beer and highball (cheaper when standing). The restaurant also had cozy private seating areas at the back. Overall, it was a satisfying experience with delicious food. Thank you for the meal.

I stopped by "Takenoya" in Kawabata after finishing work. I found a spot at the standing counter, where you can drink beer and highballs at a cheaper price. A draft beer costs 390 yen, and a highball costs 290 yen. I ordered three different flavors of grilled chicken skewers, mackerel skewers, and pork belly skewers. The addictive grilled chicken skewers in Hakata are just perfect as a drinking snack. The mackerel skewers were also delicious. They have a variety of other menu items, including sushi. It's a great way to make use of the time before a flight by drinking around Kawabata.

I visited the restaurant on Sunday at 6:00 PM. I went there hoping for fresh squid sashimi, but unfortunately it wasn't available. I tried the crispy burdock salad, motsunabe (for two), chicken skewers, chicken thigh yakitori instead of octopus takoyaki, onion gratin (spring menu). The chicken was delicious. The burdock salad had a nice texture and also had chicken meat in it. The motsu soup was a bit mild in flavor. The portions were generous! This restaurant offers good value for money and is enjoyable.

I often pass by Takenoya in Kawabata Shopping Street, but this was my first time visiting. Due to the extension of the state of emergency, they are not sourcing fresh fish due to the pandemic, so I was disappointed to find out that they didn't have the squid I was looking forward to. The famous chicken skin dish, while not bad, was honestly just okay. Is everything else like this too?? It was nice to be able to have a fun and lively time at the izakaya after so long! The touch panel ordering was a bit of a hassle though, haha.

A fairly reasonable izakaya! I went to Manbou before. They had thorough infection prevention measures in place. Although there were 4 of us, we were not allowed to sit at a 4-person table, so we were seated at a 6-person table with seats spaced out and not facing each other. Since we only had food and no alcohol that day, it was very cheap! The skewers were priced between 100-200 yen, which was very pleasing. The gizzards, hearts, and pork belly skewers were all thick and of much better quality compared to other chain restaurants, with great value for money. The tamagoyaki was very soft and came with sauce, which was delicious, although it was different from what I expected. I saw another customer enjoying a motsunabe, so I will definitely try it someday!

Located about a 2-minute walk from Nakasu Kawabata Station. I used it for a night out. The atmosphere is good. They serve Kyushu-style dishes such as chicken skin, sesame mackerel, and charcoal-grilled chicken. Chicken skin... delicious. I can't say if it's the original, as I don't know. Sesame mackerel... the freshness of the mackerel is not good. The texture of the mackerel is not great. Charcoal-grilled chicken... the chicken itself is tough! So it was mediocre. Among the non-Kyushu-style foods, there were many delicious items!

Local residents and I visited "Takenoya Kawabata" for the first time in about two years. Of course, we were there for this dish: "Hakata Guruguru Torikawa". It is a dish that is grilled and rested repeatedly for five days, making it crispy and chewy, a specialty of Takenoya. We also enjoyed various other dishes such as "Shiromotsu", "Sazuri", "Bonjiri", "Nametsukune", "Tebasaki", "Gomasaba", "Dashimaki Tamago", and "Hakata Toritama". I usually don't like chicken skin, but "Hakata Guruguru Torikawa" is an exception. The repeated grilling and resting process eliminates the greasiness, making it delicious. It's truly the best chicken skin dish! With this and a highball, I don't need anything else. Oh, it's already late! Let's go for ramen to end the night!

I went to a place in Nakasu Kawabata Shopping Street with someone I met in Kyushu who had just been allowed to drink alcohol. It was convenient that they could pick out the food they could eat because they had preferences. The crispy chicken skin was delicious, a must-try in Hakata. The sesame mackerel was thickly sliced with a rich sauce, a good deal. The horse meat sashimi was easy to eat without any strong taste. The sushi slices were generous in size. The tamagoyaki came in plain, mentaiko, and with egg inside! The enthusiastic staff even cut it for us in a video-worthy moment. The yolk was rich and tasty. It was a great meal exploring Kyushu. Thank you for the feast.

I felt the freshness of the unique menu that other izakayas do not have. The staff were friendly, and the food was delicious. It was 500 yen including tax for 7 pieces. It was a convenient amount and price, so I would like to go again if I have the chance. I am satisfied with Kokenoya. However, Kokenoya is popular and it is often crowded. Keep up the good work!

I went on a business trip to Fukuoka before the declaration of a state of emergency due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. I had dinner with three people from the client company, and even though Fukuoka specialties like "mizutaki" and "motsunabe" are popular, I politely declined as I don't like them. We ended up at "Kaisen Sushi Sumibi Yakitori Takenoya". Located in the Kawabata Shotengai shopping street, near the entrance of the north-west side of the area, it is a nice place to enjoy a meal. We had various dishes including "Hakata Guruguru Torikawa" (grilled chicken skin skewers), pork belly, cold chicken wing tempura, sesame mackerel, cheese tempura, and the famous egg omelet. The "Hakata Guruguru Torikawa" was a favorite among the locals, and the cold chicken wing tempura was my personal favorite. The restaurant also served a version of the dish made with "Yumeyumedori" chicken, which I sometimes order online. Overall, everything was delicious and I had a great time dining with my companions. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

This is a shop located in a shopping street across the bridge from Nakasu. When you enter, there is a staircase going down immediately, and when you go down, you go up again right away, making the interior of the shop a bit strange. Watch out for drunken customers! I was drawn in by the large picture of "torikawa" displayed in front of the shop and decided to enter. The seating is in private rooms, which allows for a relaxing atmosphere. I ordered five pieces of torikawa. I imagined it would be bigger based on the picture, but it was surprisingly small (laughs). However, it was plump, fragrant, and delicious. I really liked it. I recommend the "torikawa" here.

After finishing work, I suddenly felt like having a beer, so I ended up visiting this place. The reason I was drawn here is because standing and drinking beer only costs 390 yen! So, I started standing and drinking at the counter. I ordered mainly yakitori dishes that seemed to go well with alcohol:
- Seared roast pork (390 yen)
- Hakata guruguru chicken skewers (650 yen for 5)
- Pork belly (160 yen)
- Pork miso marinated skewer (130 yen)
- Chicken skin with garlic wrap (130 yen)
- Draft beer (390 yen)
By the way, the popular dishes are chicken skin and roast pork. First, the seared roast pork arrived. It smelled good! They sear the meat right before serving and top it with chili oil. The tender pork wrapped in onion was delicious! Spicy and juicy, it went well with the beer. And all this for 390 yen, the cost performance seems good. Next, the chicken skewers arrived! There was a 3-piece option, but it was so popular that I ended up getting 5 pieces. Let's take a bite! The chicken skewers were salty, crispy on the outside, and chewy inside. They were well-cooked, so excess oil was nicely drained. I enjoyed my beer and finished two glasses. It's a good place for a casual drink. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this standing bar for the first time. The Sapporo Black Label draft beer was 390 yen, and the Tris Highball was 290 yen, which is quite cheap. I ordered horse mackerel sashimi, fried fish bones, a skewer assortment (8 skewers), chicken skin (5 pieces), icefish sashimi, 2 glasses of Black Label, and 1 Tris Highball, totaling 4633 yen. In other words, I managed to eat 13 skewers, a whole horse mackerel, icefish sashimi, and 3 glasses of beer. The cost performance is good, the menu is varied, and the prices are displayed in front of the shop, making it a reassuring place to enter. The location is inside the Kawabata Shopping Street arcade. I think it's a very reasonable price with decent taste. I would definitely consider revisiting.

At a mini reunion, we used a restaurant located in the Kawabata Shopping Street. They open early from 5 pm. The interior has a unique layout with standing counters at the entrance, private rooms on different levels, and a train-like structure with seating areas and restrooms. The menu is quite extensive, although they didn't have the steamed dumplings we saw in Yoshizuka. We ended the meal with delicious mackerel tea-soaked rice. It's interesting to note that they have standing counters like in Yoshizuka, making it suitable for solo dining. Overall, the total bill came to 5000 yen due to spending 5 hours there, but under normal circumstances, it should cost around 2000-3000 yen.

Midway through the consecutive holidays. The male group disappeared into the nightlife of Nakasu, and I started walking to have dinner with my colleagues. I wanted to eat something local in Fukuoka, but I didn't want to go to a fancy restaurant. So, we first went to the food stall area, but I forgot that it was a holiday... It was so crowded that we couldn't even pass through, and I didn't feel like I had eaten anything, so we ended up back near the hotel, and finally arrived here. There are various local specialties in Fukuoka, it's a private room type, and the prices are not that high!! Nice!! The touch panel order system is casual and good. Usually, many places won't take an order for motsunabe unless it's for two people, but here you can order just for one person! Appreciated!! We also had sesame mackerel! I don't like squid, but it seems they also have sashimi. The seats were like private rooms, separated by curtains, but that's fine. Each dish had a good portion size, and the fried chicken was hot and delicious! I appreciate these unpretentious restaurants. I will definitely visit again when I come back to Fukuoka!!

On a business trip to Hakata, I visited a nearby restaurant called Takenoya. While there are many izakayas that serve squid from Yobuko, there have been times when they were unable to serve it due to poor weather or fishing conditions. But this time, we were in luck. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and is a place where we sometimes entertain clients. When the squid arrived, my colleagues hesitated, but the visitor from Osaka dove right in without hesitation. "It's delicious!" Once someone took the first bite, everyone followed suit. The remaining tentacles and body parts were fried as tempura right in front of us, and they were delicious as well. The restaurant also serves a unique tower of large onion rings. The younger employees enjoyed the food, but the older ones like me gave up after a little bit. Let's come back here again with everyone!

I attended a company banquet for the first time. We had the 5000 yen course without hot pot in a spacious tatami room on the second floor. The dishes were all average. I wish they had included the specialty chicken skin in the course.

I stopped by for the third time. I was drawn in by the spinning rotisserie and the photos of the food on the signboard. The drinks are affordable and it's perfect for a casual visit. I enjoyed the food even though I was full.

The main dish is microwaved, disappointing rumors, but the tamagoyaki was delicious! It goes well with the sauce.
