It's chocolate season, isn't it? Bonbon chocolat with a Kyoto-like flavor. And they are quite cheap. Just south of Shijo Street. It's also close to Karasuma Station. There is no flashy sign, so it may be a bit hard to find. Each piece costs about 200-300 yen, which is cheap. I selected a box of 6. Sake lees, Earl Grey, Cafe au lait, Matcha, Wood strawberry, and Yuzu. All for 1750 yen. Nice, right? The flavors are all quite strong. The themes like matcha, sake lees, and yuzu are Kyoto-like, but they might be emphasizing the characteristics a bit too much. However, the design on the surface is cute.

I decided to go to Daimaru and searched on Tabelog to see if there were any chocolate shops nearby. I found this shop that popped up in the search results. It's located east of Shijo Street, not directly connected to Daimaru. If you walk south from the credit union, you'll find it. I had some free time that day, so this was the second chocolate shop I visited out of the seven I checked out. What stood out was that the non-alcoholic bonbons were reasonably priced at 200 yen. The menu seemed to change daily, as there was a date on it. They had a variety of unique flavors, including alcoholic bonbons. It was hard to choose with so many options. I bought three flavors: ginger, rosemary (June limited edition), and lemon. The flavors were distinct and strong. The ginger was quite powerful, the rosemary was unique, and the lemon was very sour. Overall, it seemed like a good chocolate shop for everyday use.

Located a 5-7 minute walk from Karasuma Station, Chocolatier Double Set is a popular sweets shop in Kyoto. Situated between Kyoto Kawaramachi Station and Karasuma Station, this small and cozy chocolatier specializes in take-out treats, making it best to visit during the cooler seasons. They offer a wide range of flavors, from classic to those infused with liqueur or herbs, making them great for gifts as well. We purchased the popular flavors of Mint, Rosemary, Caffe Latte, Milk, Caramel, and Mango. The Mint and Rosemary had a refreshing herbal taste, while the Mango combined sweetness with a hint of liqueur, making it a sophisticated flavor that pairs well with wine. Of course, the classic sweet flavors like Milk and Caffe Latte were delicious as well. If you love chocolate, be sure to visit this place. Thank you for the meal!

I felt a deep love for chocolate✨ I looked at the map app and ended up passing by the place twice. It didn't look like a chocolatier from the outside. Inside, there was an older man who seemed like a chocolatier. I couldn't decide what to choose, so I ended up wanting to buy everything (but restrained myself). There were some unusual flavors like leek, but I went for the classic ones for my first visit. When I got home, I finally met my chocolates. They had put three ice packs around them for freshness. And the much-talked-about handwritten menu was included. They had checked off the chocolates I chose. It was clear that they put a lot of love into making them. Of course, they were delicious✨ I intended to savor each piece, but before I knew it, I had already eaten several. I will definitely go back to buy more.

Located near Shijo Street, on Yanaginobaba Street, this chocolatier's concept is "bridging people, ingredients, and alcohol through chocolate." They offer around 30 varieties of bonbon chocolat that change daily. They opened in October 2010 and are about a 5-7 minute walk from Karasuma Station and Shijo Station. Situated along Yanaginobaba Street, between Shijo Street and Ayakoji Street, the chic Western-style exterior might make it hard to find. I visited in the afternoon. The interior, though not spacious, is a quiet and calming space. It seemed like the owner was running the shop alone. The chocolate showcase is placed in the front. The price tags and illustrated menu are handwritten. The flavors on this day included 7 Japanese ingredient flavors, 15 alcohol-infused flavors, totaling 31 varieties. Prices range from 250 yen to 300 yen per piece (tax included). I purchased the following:
- Kinome (Japanese pepper leaf) (300 yen)
- Yuzu (Japanese citrus) (300 yen)
- Grappa (250 yen) Highly recommended.
- Garam Masala (250 yen)
- Lemon (250 yen)
- Shiso (Japanese basil) (250 yen)
- Strong ginger (250 yen)
The Japanese-inspired flavors were more subtle than expected. The Grappa flavor felt like tasting the alcohol itself. The price for the chocolates is reasonable. A chocolatier I would like to visit for everyday treats.

At first, it was raining so the place was quiet. I was the only customer and the staff was friendly and easy to talk to. You can select and buy chocolates individually. I bought the ginger (which is limited edition), the Yamazaki whisky, and a few others. The Yamazaki whisky was 400 yen, while the others were around 200-250 yen. The chocolates have a syrup filling that surprises you with its taste. It's unexpected how well chocolate and syrup go together. I want to try more adventurous flavors next time.

I went to Chocolatier Double Sept on July 14, 2021! It is a small chocolatier located a little south of Kyoto's Shijo Street. Double Sept means 77 in French. I liked the cozy atmosphere when I first visited, so I went back again. The closing time varies depending on the day, so be sure to check the website before you go! Surprisingly, this chocolatier has a small eat-in space with only one seat. The Earl Grey, Rum, Coco, and Kirsch flavors were all delicious, but I think Earl Grey was the best. They don't seem to offer drinks at the moment, but I think having a drink while enjoying chocolate is a great idea. I would love to visit again when I'm in the area! - Giorno's Sweets & Wine Diary

Today, I visited a chocolate specialty store near Shijo-Karasuma.
Chocolatier Double Sept is located on Yanaginobanba Street. The sign outside the store was not very noticeable, so I was a bit confused. The name "Double Sept" means "Double Seven" in French, and I noticed that the door had "77" written on it.
Inside the small shop, there were 20 to 30 different types of chocolates displayed. They offer chocolates with alcohol and without alcohol, ranging from 150 yen to 400 yen each. Most of them were in the 200 yen range. You can purchase chocolates individually, so I bought four and headed home.
I tried the chocolates I bought:
- Grappa: This chocolate uses Grappa, an Italian brandy. It has a nice adult flavor with a hint of grape.
- Amaretto Heart: A cute heart-shaped chocolate made with Amaretto liqueur, which has a scent similar to almonds. It starts with a rich chocolate taste and ends with a lingering liqueur flavor.
- Cointreau: This chocolate uses Cointreau, a liqueur made from orange peels. It has a lovely orange liqueur scent.
- Cardamom: This chocolate uses cardamom, a spice used in curry and other dishes. It has a unique herbal and refreshing taste.
Overall, it was a charming chocolate shop with a hidden gem vibe. It was my first time visiting, recommended by a friend, but I definitely want to go back.

I used the Seishun 18 ticket to travel from Hiroshima to Tokyo in 2 days. On this day, Kyoto Station is the destination. Since I used the Seishun 18 ticket, the total transportation cost for this day is 2410 yen. The shop "Chocolatier Double Set" doesn't seem to want much attention from the public, it's a humble chocolate shop. I visited to buy souvenirs for my colleagues and for myself. One of the shop's main features is the wide variety of chocolate with liqueur, as well as unique flavors like ginger, Nikka whiskey, and Kujyo green onions, which would be quite interesting for hardcore chocolate enthusiasts. I bought the set of three chocolates for myself, but for souvenirs, I chose unusual flavors like garam masala, Kujyo green onions, sake lees, and chocolates with liqueur. When I asked for feedback later, my colleagues mentioned that the green onion flavor wasn't very strong, but the garam masala was intense with curry spice, and the sake lees chocolate had a distinct presence of sake lees aroma. The reviews were quite positive, and the souvenirs were well-received. The shop's chocolates were not trendy with simplistic flavors that appeal to girls, but rather authentic and unwavering in quality, showcasing the pride of the artisans. I thought it was truly wonderful. Thank you for the meal!

I came here to buy Valentine's chocolate that I had been interested in for a while. I thought it might be crowded since it was the day before Valentine's, but it was relatively empty probably because it had just opened. There were many types of chocolates and they were cheap! Especially the alcohol-based chocolates had a wide variety. I bought various types, but the most enjoyable part was choosing them, haha. I don't like alcohol, so I gave the alcohol-based ones to my husband. I think he said he likes Absinthe and Cointreau. I think I liked Cafe Latte. They all had a ganache flavoring, giving them a homemade feel. The taste was okay, considering the price. It was a bit underwhelming compared to my expectations. (The drip coffee in the photo is from another store)

When I went to Kyoto, I was most looking forward to visiting a chocolate shop. When I arrived at the shop at 2 o'clock, there were many bonbons to choose from. I bought a lot for souvenirs and for myself. For myself, I got a box of 14 pieces with flavors like dill and limited edition café au lait. There were also bonbons with alcohol flavors like rum. The coating was crispy, and the filling had a delightful aroma. I will savor them carefully.

There were so many options to choose from, but the staff were helpful and it was a nice atmosphere in the store♥ I was hesitant about the chocolate with green onions, but I could really taste the green onions! By the way, there are no actual green onions in it. It seems like there's just an extract. There are some interesting flavors inside, so I'd like to try a variety of them. And the prices are very reasonable♥ I bought 8 pieces for about 1700 yen.

While strolling around Kyoto, I came across a chocolate shop and decided to stop by. I ordered a café latte and a milk chocolate, each for 200 yen which was quite affordable. The coffee flavor was distinct and the chocolate had a smooth texture, making it quite delicious. It would have been even better if the portions were a bit bigger.

I visited this shop because I was craving chocolate. I hesitated to enter because I couldn't see inside, but when I did, I found a simple yet beautifully displayed selection of chocolates. I ended up buying 6 different kinds: Dilmango, Milk, Calvados (liqueur), Amaretto (liqueur), Laphroaig (liqueur). It cost 1450 yen for 6 pieces. The chocolates had a strong liqueur flavor and a rich sweetness. They were elegant and delicious, and the price was reasonable.

I discovered this shop on my way to my destination after parking my car at a nearby CP. As a chocolate lover, I had never noticed this place before. After finishing my errands, I decided to visit. The shop's exterior gives no hint of what's inside, but the sign "Chocolatier" indicates that it is a chocolate shop. The interior is small and simple, with a display case of bonbon chocolates right in front. There were over 20 varieties of bonbon chocolates, priced between 200 and 250 yen each. I purchased a box containing the following 10 flavors: Mint (200 yen), Strawberry (200 yen), Lemon (200 yen), Dill (200 yen), Cinnamon (200 yen), Cointreau (200 yen), Calvados (200 yen), Kirsch (250 yen), Grappa (250 yen), and Lagavulin (300 yen), with the box costing 150 yen. All the chocolates were of high quality, exceeding their price point. The liqueur-flavored chocolates had a strong alcohol taste. This shop is perfect for those looking for delicious bonbon chocolates at a reasonable price.

A small shop located on a side street off the main road. What's interesting about this shop is their wide selection of seasonal menu items, as well as chocolates infused with alcohol. This time, I chose the following two regular chocolates: mint and lime. I also purchased the following six chocolates with alcohol: Cointreau, Calvados, Lychee, Amaretto, Kirsch, and Mirabelle. The prices range from around 150 to 300 yen per piece, which is more reasonable compared to other high-end chocolate shops. The chocolates have colorful patterns, and the hand-drawn product list provided when purchasing has the same patterns, making it easy to choose. The alcohol-infused chocolates have a subtle alcohol taste but a strong flavor, making them delicious. They even had chocolates with ingredients like Kujo green onions and sake lees, so I'd like to try some unique flavors next time. Thank you for the meal.

You can enjoy a variety of flavors at affordable prices. The appearance and taste of each chocolate reflect the care put into making them. Although the shop may seem intimidating at first glance, once inside, I found myself quietly selecting chocolates. They offer a wide range of chocolates mixed with liqueur, which I personally highly recommend.
