For dinner, I went to "Fukuryu" and completed conquering all the ramen shops in Ebetsu city. Just as I was procrastinating, a new shop opened. Excluding the airport and Rera, there are about 5 ramen shops left in Chitose. There were no other customers when I arrived, but later two groups of customers came in. I ordered the "Mini Katsu Set Meal (¥900)". The fried items take some time to prepare, so let's wait patiently. After about 10 minutes, the plate arrived... Oh my goodness! The rumors and photos were true, the portion size is huge! Can you see the volume in the photos? It includes rice, natto, 6 pieces of tonkatsu, cabbage, pickled daikon, cold tofu, and a side dish, along with a soup that they call ramen! The ramen is indeed mini, like a half-size compared to a regular bowl, but it seems to have the same amount as a regular or large size bowl at a regular ramen shop. Have I stepped into a large serving shop? If the ramen was full size, it could potentially compete with "Ko○ Ichiban" ... well, maybe not that far. But for ¥900, this is a great deal! The mini ramen that comes with the set meal is always salt-based, so it's definitely a salt ramen specialty here. It feels like they replaced the chashu with wheat gluten. In addition to the wheat gluten, the naruto and green onions indicate a nostalgic old-fashioned flavor that I like! The slightly higher salt content, related to the old-fashioned preparation, surprisingly doesn't bother me much. The chewy medium-thick curly noodles also have a nice texture! The tonkatsu is more crispy than crunchy. It is fried with a light pink color, well done, and while it's not the type that oozes meat juice like a Western or tonkatsu restaurant, the meat itself is flavorful, tender, and delicious! I prefer tonkatsu or hamburgers with a moderate pink color, so I like this frying method! The fact that the breading doesn't come off easily is also a plus. Wait, isn't the tonkatsu not really mini-sized? (laughs) Despite being on the verge of leaving some food behind, I managed to finish everything by taking breaks with cabbage, cold tofu, side dishes, and pickled daikon. Even with a modest breakfast on weekdays and almost just drinks for lunch, it was tough for me! But being able to eat to my heart's content at a reasonable price is very satisfying, and the option to leave food on the table is too kind! Next time, I'll choose between ramen or a rice bowl. Thank you for the meal.
