Nowadays, tapioca milk tea is popular. After seeing long lines, I decided to do some research on tapioca shops. It turns out that the original Gong Cha has a good reputation. I always see long lines at the Shinjuku Nishiguchi, it seems like a hassle to wait in line there. A few months passed and one day, I happened to be in Shibuya for something, and I stumbled upon Gong Cha at Modi. I remembered this place used to be a meat pie shop, it was delicious, it's sad that it's gone, the rise and fall of businesses, I thought to myself as I lined up. I paid with my Marui card and answered a survey to get points, so it's a bit of a deal compared to eating elsewhere (like 10% off with Maru and Maro's 7-day offer). I believe in eating what I want before the tax increase. There was a line, but not too long. The staff seemed accustomed to handling lines, it's part of the shop's system, integrated into their customer service, which makes things smooth. I appreciate this kind of efficiency. The menu was a bit confusing. For a first-timer, it's tough. But for tapioca, I decided on the standard Black Milk Tea with pearls. Complicated. Saying "Today's Coffee S" at Starbucks is much easier. Anyway, I got my milk tea. Luckily, there was a seat available inside, so I enjoyed it there. It was quite delicious. The big tapioca pearls coming through the thick straw were fun. The chewy texture gives a satisfying bite. The milk tea taste was okay, nothing extraordinary. I don't know about other tapioca milk teas, but this one was decent. I might come back, not because it was amazing and I want to have it again, but more like "It was okay. Maybe other items are better? I should try them." It's like a 70% chance of revisiting. It's that feeling of not being able to stop until you find the perfect one. Unlike egg tarts, which I would revisit regardless of the trend, tapioca milk tea doesn't have that same appeal. But it's not bad at all. Thank you for the meal.
