I stopped by for sightseeing. Unlike the atmosphere of Dotonbori, this place seemed to be loved by locals and was bustling with local office workers. The okonomiyaki had a thick and chewy texture. When you order a set meal, it comes with rice and miso soup. I was able to experience the unique Kansai style of eating rice as a main dish with okonomiyaki as a side dish.

Visit date and time 2023/03/15 12:10 I visited "Pongusa" during my work lunch break. It is located a short 5-minute walk east from JR Fukushima Station on the Osaka Loop Line, just north of Route 2. I ordered the "Yakisoba set meal with extra noodles and egg". It's a typical Osaka dish, and I thought adding the egg was a good choice. - Food/Taste 3.1 The "Yakisoba set meal" comes with miso soup and white rice. The noodles are medium thickness, and it seems they used 1.5 servings of packaged noodles for the extra portion. There are some parts where the noodles stick together a bit. It includes a large amount of cabbage and a proper amount of pork belly. The taste is the familiar sauce flavor, with a moderate richness. The egg is a half-cooked fried egg. It was cooked just right. I placed it on top of the white rice without breaking it. It was nice and runny. - Service 3.1 The staff provides polite service with a down-to-earth touch. I'm not sure if they do it for everyone, but they greeted customers with a typical Osaka "Maido" when they entered. If you sit at the counter, you can watch the cooking right in front of you. They use a metal divider to prevent ingredients from flying towards you and skillfully handle the spatula. They use a dome-shaped lid to steam the yakisoba well during cooking. - Atmosphere 3.0 As mentioned, it is located slightly away from the cluster of restaurants, so access may be a bit tricky. The interior has a Showa-era vibe, with a tiled floor. There were about 7 customers before me and 3 after me. - Cost Performance 3.0 The "Yakisoba set meal with extra noodles and egg" costs 840 yen. In terms of yakisoba prices, it's neither outstanding nor disappointing. - Drinks - Data not available. The clientele seems to mainly consist of office workers.

Lunchtime visit☆*:;;;:**:;;;:*☆*:;;;:**:;;;:*☆*:;;;:**:;;;:*☆*:;;;:**:;;;:*☆ ■■■ Okonomiyaki Pongusa (Osaka, Fukushima branch) ■■■ 【This Visit】 (Ordered on: August 2022, First visit: September 2020) Ordered Item No. 1064-02 August 2022 ● Dinner. Medium bottle of beer 530 yen + Mix Modan 990 yen + Hotate garlic soy butter stir-fry 850 yen = 2,370 yen per person 【Result】 ・The medium bottle of beer was really a great deal. 530 yen (including tax) ・The okonomiyaki was a disappointment, unfortunately. The reason is the cooking. The cooking was so shallow, how are we supposed to eat it like this? The size of the okonomiyaki was not good, it was small and thin. Mix okonomiyaki, for example, had small ingredients and a small amount. Okonomiyaki is a no-go. Homemade okonomiyaki tastes better. Anyway, the charm lies in the cheap price of the medium bottle of beer. Thank you for the meal~ (*^_^*) ☺☻☺☻☺☻ ☆*:;;;:**:;;;:*☆*:;;;:**:;;;:*☆*:;;;:**:;;;:*☆*:;;;:**:;;;:*☆ 【Revisit】 Added photos No. 1064-02 August 2022 ● Dinner. Yakisoba is a side dish. My favorite okonomiyaki restaurant, Pongusa. The yakisoba set meal is 660 yen, but I splurged and ordered the large serving with an egg for 830 yen. The system is to eat the yakisoba as the main dish, along with rice and miso soup. It's nice that it comes with tsukemono and pickles too. The yakisoba here is average, but delicious, right?

Located about an 8-minute walk from Fukushima Station, Pon Gusa Teppanyaki is a cozy restaurant tucked away in a side street. The atmosphere is very pleasant, with around five tables and a counter seating about 5-6 people. The menu is simple, offering options like okonomiyaki set meals and yakisoba set meals, priced around 900 yen. You can add a fried egg for an additional 100 yen. The yakisoba comes with a thick and savory sauce, a choice that would please those from Kansai region. While the yakisoba is not taken off the teppan, the okonomiyaki can be eaten directly off the hot plate (which is not heated). The restaurant is run by a husband and wife, and although the turnover is not very high, the simple and homely taste of their lunch menu is delightful. The portion sizes are not large, making it easy to enjoy a light meal. The complimentary miso soup is a nice touch. Lunchtime okonomiyaki places are not very common, so I would recommend this place to those who enjoy having okonomiyaki for lunch.

Fukushima lunch ☀️ I felt like eating something with sauce for lunch, and I remembered that there was a okonomiyaki restaurant on the way to work. They had yakisoba and okonomiyaki set meals, and the smell was great. Before COVID, I used to imagine the place being crowded at lunchtime, but I was able to get in easily this time. Both the okonomiyaki and yakisoba had a sauce that wasn't too strong, allowing you to really taste the sweetness of the batter. Personally, I prefer a thicker mayonnaise, but the one they served was very smooth! The taste of the batter was to my liking, and I definitely want to go back. Thanks for the meal.

I stopped by for dinner after work at this old-fashioned okonomiyaki restaurant run by a couple. The flavors are simple and delicious, without any fancy seasonings. The photo is blurry, but it's a vegetable stir-fry. I forgot to take a picture of the okonomiyaki because I was too busy eating it... I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!

Located in Fukushima-ku, Osaka City. It is near Fukushima Station, down a narrow alley in Nishi-Umeda. The interior of the restaurant has 3 counter seats and 4 teppanyaki tables for 4 people each. The Yakisoba set meal costs 700 yen with an egg, or 650 yen without. It comes with Yakisoba, a fried egg, rice, and miso soup. The Yakisoba is delicious and traditional. The fried egg goes well with the optional sauce. The rice is firm and pairs nicely with the Yakisoba. The miso soup completes the meal perfectly. The restaurant has a charming atmosphere in the urban alley. The prices are reasonable, and I look forward to coming back. Next time, I want to try the Okonomiyaki!

The sweet aroma of the unique sauce from the flour-based food shop caught my attention and I couldn't help but enter. It's a shop specializing in flour-based dishes, and I'm feeling excited about the menu options like okonomiyaki, set meals, and yakisoba. I'm having a hard time deciding what to order... Plus, it's so affordable! It's a kind and welcoming shop that makes me want to come back regularly.

I found out that there is a delicious okonomiyaki restaurant called "Pongusa" in Fukushima, so I decided to visit last summer. I tried the "Suji Tama - Large" and it was incredibly delicious, almost to the point of being overwhelmed. However, I read on a certain blog that the taste had changed a bit since last fall. So, I decided to revisit to confirm. Of course, I ordered the "Suji Tama - Large" for 920 yen. I see, there is not as much thickness as before. It had a slightly rough texture that bothered my tongue. It's not that it's not delicious, it's just not as shockingly delicious as last time.

After finishing work on Nakanoshima, I was looking for dinner and in the mood for okonomiyaki. As I headed towards Osaka Station on Route 2, I found an okonomiyaki restaurant just off the main road. Without hesitation, I went in. There were both counter and table seating options, and even though I was alone, I was seated at a table, which I found surprisingly nice. Every okonomiyaki restaurant has its own special menu, and this one was no exception - they had something called "Pongusa-yaki". While I personally love Modern-yaki, I ended up choosing the Mixed Modern-yaki. They cook it for you in the kitchen, which is convenient for Modern-yaki. The dish that arrived was packed with ingredients and very satisfying. Next time, I'll challenge myself to try the Pongusa-yaki (apparently it's loaded with meat).

Located in a quiet alley near the intersection near the Deiri Bridge, this restaurant is easy to miss for those who are not locals. I decided to explore a new place for lunch on a Saturday and stumbled upon this spot. The exterior and interior are not too old, and it doesn't really look like a typical okonomiyaki restaurant. I ordered the Osaka-style okonomiyaki set meal for lunch. It came with rice, miso soup, and a pork and cabbage pancake cooked on the hot plate. The okonomiyaki was light and fluffy, with enough side dishes to make it feel like a main course. While there was nothing particularly unique, being able to enjoy a typical Osaka okonomiyaki in a house near the office district was quite nice.

I didn't know about this place despite being close to Fukushima Station. It's a shop located in an alley. I visited around 1:30 in the afternoon. The interior is wooden with 4 tables for 4 people each and a 3-seat counter. The owner runs the shop alone. The lunch set includes yakisoba set for 670 yen (regular) or 790 yen (large), vegetable stir-fry set for 870 yen, and okonomiyaki set for 690 yen. I ordered the deluxe okonomiyaki set for 970 yen, which includes shrimp, squid, scallops, and pork with rice and miso soup. The table griddle is for keeping warm. The owner prepares the okonomiyaki at the counter. When it arrived, I was delighted to see a sunny-side-up egg on top. It really lifts your spirits, doesn't it? The batter is on the softer side with a high cabbage ratio. Despite being a lunch set, it felt generous with plenty of shrimp, squid, scallops, and pork. It feels even more cost-effective at 690 yen for the okonomiyaki set.

I had been thinking that the lunch prices were cheap, so I decided to visit this place for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, which happened to be a working holiday for me. When I walked in, it looked like a very typical okonomiyaki restaurant. Each table had a hot plate, and there was a TV in the restaurant. The cheapest option was the Yakisoba A Tamago Teishoku for 670 yen. However, I decided to go for the next cheapest option, which was the Okonomiyaki Teishoku. I chose the Butatama flavor. The chef brought the freshly cooked okonomiyaki to my table. It came with white rice, miso soup, and a bottle of pickled kombu and daikon. The okonomiyaki was a simple type, similar to what you would find in a downtown area. It was a bit firmer than what I usually prefer, as I like mine with lots of grated yam. But overall, it was not bad. The rice portion was surprisingly generous, so the meal was quite filling. All of this for 690 yen was a good deal. Definitely a great place for flour-based dishes! Thank you for the meal.Requested Menu: Okonomiyaki Teishoku 690 yen
