On April 29, 2023 (Saturday), with one night and two meals included, I had been wanting to visit this inn since hearing my colleague, who joined the company around 20 years ago, stayed here with their spouse. Despite it being Golden Week, I came across a great opportunity to stay here for a total of 39,200 yen, or 13,000 yen per person, using a coupon and points from Jalan, so I made a reservation on a whim. One thing I really liked was the valet service - just pull up in front of the inn, hand over the keys, and that's it, which was a nice touch. Inside the inn, there was the sound of a koto playing and background music of a lion dance, creating a traditional Japanese atmosphere. The room I stayed in was room 601, which turned out to be a two-room suite! They had upgraded me for free, which was a pleasant surprise! The yukata was provided based on the size I had requested when booking. The inn had two elevators for around 30 rooms, so they were very fast and stress-free. The hot spring bath had a male-female switch-over system from 9:00 pm to 9:30 pm, and you could use it throughout the night, which was great. It was a sulfur spring with natural spring water flowing in, and the bath area was a suitable size for the amount of water, showing their commitment to the hot spring. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the room. My wife and I chose the couple's plan. The menu included various dishes such as appetizers, sashimi, sukiyaki, and more, all of which were delicious. The room service was excellent, and we were able to enjoy a luxurious stay at a reasonable price.

On April 15th, Reiwa 5 (Saturday), I stayed at a full-service kaiseki plan (20,500 yen per person). As the title suggests, you can enjoy meals in your room for both breakfast and dinner. The dinner includes a set of three types of sake to enjoy. The food was delicious and the service from the staff was great. I also enjoyed the milky white hot spring water and fully enjoyed Noboribetsu. This inn is recommended for those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle and enjoy meals and hot springs.

I tried to conquer all the inns in Noboribetsu Onsen by changing accommodations every night for about half a month. Most of the inns in Noboribetsu are buffet style, but the one I stayed at offered room service with a very customer-oriented traditional Japanese course meal. It may be more geared towards older guests, but as an older person myself, I was very satisfied. The course was very well-prepared traditional Japanese cuisine, without any out-of-place dishes, and the flavors were just right. Despite not having any rare or expensive ingredients, the skillful preparation was evident. For a proper traditional Japanese kaiseki meal in Noboribetsu, I would recommend either Takimaru or Sankakko, depending on personal preference.

In the onsen ryokan in Noboribetsu that I stayed at using the GOTO travel campaign, the room was a traditional Japanese style room with 10 tatami mats and 6 tatami mats. There was a river nearby where you could hear the sound of the flowing water as you slept. The bathing area was not very large, and the hot spring water was a sulfur spring unique to Noboribetsu. The bottom of the bath was covered with mud-like mineral deposits, which was a first for me in Noboribetsu. The water was comfortably warm and left my skin feeling smooth. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were served in the room. The dinner included a pre-dinner sake tasting with a special sweet sake from Shimizuya, followed by a variety of dishes such as appetizers, sashimi, grilled dishes, a choice of main dish (I chose snow crab with American sauce), a simmered dish, a grilled dish, a vinegar dish, a rice dish, and a dessert. The sashimi was delicious, especially the sweet surf clam. The simmered dish of Kinmedai fish was tender and flavorful, and the grilled dish of Satsuma pork marinated in salt koji was excellent. Overall, the meal was satisfying and highlighted the best of local ingredients. The breakfast featured a choice of salmon or hokke fish, and the hokke fish was fatty and delicious. The room was slightly larger than standard, and with the GOTO subsidy and coupon, the cost per person was around 11,000 yen, making it a reasonable price for a nostalgic experience of Showa era at this inn.

Holiday outing series. Using the GoTo Travel campaign, we visited Noboribetsu Onsen for the first time in a few years. My husband always dislikes buffet dinners when staying at hot spring resorts, so I made a reservation at "Miyado Shimizuya," which offers room service and delicious cuisine. We arrived at the inn later than planned, so we decided to have dinner before taking a bath. The dishes served were plentiful and quite satisfying. It was a Japanese course menu incorporating seasonal ingredients. While not visually extravagant, the dishes were carefully prepared. The highlight was the soup dish. The matsutake mushroom steamed in a pot had a fragrant aroma and a gentle, comforting taste. The mixed rice with chestnuts and ginkgo nuts was also delicious. It was nice that the dishes were brought out with some time in between, so the table didn't get cluttered, and we could enjoy the warm dishes before they cooled down. You could choose from three main dishes, so I opted for the yellowtail simmered dish since I don't eat crab. There was a slight mix-up, and crab was served, but they also prepared the yellowtail dish for me, and it was delicious. Breakfast was also served in our room and had a wide variety of options. I couldn't finish everything since I was still full from dinner. The room had a separate bedroom from the tatami mat room, so you could relax after eating without any issues. You could spend a leisurely time until check-out. The hot spring was not too hot, allowing for a long soak, and had a strong sulfur scent. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I came to a hot spring inn in Noboribetsu. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, being able to have meals in the room is good, so I chose this place. It's quite a large inn, so it often ends up being buffet-style, making it valuable to be able to have meals in the room! The welcoming, carrying of luggage, parking the car, and guiding to the room were all very polite and impressive. Dinner starts around 6:00 pm. It seems you can choose a slightly earlier or later time. I forgot to take photos of everything, but there were so many dishes with quite a large volume. Each dish was made very carefully, and enjoying the meal with a beer in the room was the best! Thank you for the feast.

I visited for the first time using the Go To Travel discount. I chose a plan with hairy crab included because the discount was useful, and the hairy crab was fresh and delicious with sweet meat. The hot spring water quality unique to Noboribetsu also warmed my body to the core. The building had a charming atmosphere that may appeal to some people.

The night before, I lay in bed at 9:30 p.m. watching "Ad-machi Tengoku" before going to sleep. I want to visit Shigaraki, popular from the morning drama "Scarlet". In the morning, I woke up at 6 a.m. to a snowstorm outside with trees swaying. Breakfast was served in the room at 7 a.m., 7:30 a.m., or 8 a.m., and I chose 7:30 a.m. The good thing about the Japanese-style room is that it's not rushed when raising and lowering the futon. The same slender-armed attendant from the previous day served the meal. The Japanese breakfast included rice, miso soup, grilled salmon, thick rolled omelet, salad, simmered hijiki seaweed, simmered pumpkin, fish cake & vegetable hot pot, steamed egg custard with sauce, nori seaweed, wasabi pickles, tarako, pickles, yogurt, and milk. It was a typical delicious Japanese breakfast. My mother, feeling full from the previous night's dinner, said she couldn't swallow and retired early. I, on the other hand, had a big stomach from overeating the day before and finished everything. The rich milk was particularly delicious. On the way back, I took the "High-speed Onsen Bus" departing from the Park Hotel next door at 9:21 a.m. to Sapporo. Until then, I relaxed in the room. Information about the inn. The interior of the inn, like the rooms, uses carefully selected items from past eras. With a total of 40 rooms, the inn was fully booked without any impact from the coronavirus. As soon as you enter the entrance, you'll notice the tatami mats embroidered with cold camellias. These embroidered tatami mats come in several varieties and are changed according to the season. I remember seeing these tatami mats at the "Hanayatei Hanaya" where I stayed last month. The entrance and corridor are decorated with colorful silk balls, hanging hina dolls, decorative dolls, stone lanterns, and various Japanese decorations. Below the corridor flows a river, and you can hear the sound of the river even from inside the room. The hot spring is a sulfur spring with a source that flows continuously, and the bottom is not visible due to the white sulfur. The women's bath from check-in until 9 p.m. includes two indoor baths with low and high-temperature rock baths, and one outdoor bath with a gazebo. After a 30-minute changeover, the women's bath from 9:30 p.m. onwards only allows the use of one indoor bath, and the outdoor bath is not available. Even after taking a shower after bathing, I could still smell the sulfur on the bus ride back (^^;) The sulfur spring in Noboribetsu is really nice.

Enjoying a meal at Shimizuya, a ryokan known for its delicious meals. This time, I opted for the upgraded dinner plan featuring high-quality meat and fish, such as simmered kinki fish and Tokachi beef teppanyaki. The room service dinner allowed for bringing in good sake to pair with the meal, enhancing the dining experience. The crab miso tofu was a flavorful appetizer, perfect with a pre-dinner drink. The sashimi was fresh and delicious, with the chu-toro making a strong impression. The simmered kinki fish seemed like a dish that would appeal to inbound tourists. The Tokachi beef sukiyaki was satisfying with its marbled texture. The fried dish was lightly seasoned, and the sweet Kyoto carrot was easy to enjoy. The pickled dish was not too vinegary, making it suitable even for those who don't like vinegar. The finale of cooked rice with a crispy bottom was tasty. The three types of pickles and red miso soup were a nice touch. The dessert didn't seem to pair well with the meal, but overall, the upgraded Tokachi beef was the best value. The dining experience lasted about 2.5 hours, with the pace adjusted well by the staff. Dining leisurely in the room made the ryokan worth the stay. The diverse clientele all seemed to enjoy the dining experience regardless of age. I would love to visit this onsen ryokan again. Thank you for the delicious meal.

To enjoy a meal, I stayed at Shimizuya for breakfast. When I was shown to my room, they asked me what time I wanted breakfast. It's best to decide early, as the later times fill up quickly. If you're not careful, you might end up with a 7 am breakfast, which can be tough if you want to relax in the hot springs. You can choose between salmon or hokke for fish. When dining with multiple people, it seems best to order separately, but for breakfast, just the salmon was enough. With over 10 dishes for room service, I didn't feel overwhelmed like with dinner. It was a normal breakfast experience.

Once a month, I go on a mini hot spring trip with my mother, and this time we went to Noboribetsu. We stayed on the first day of the three-day weekend, Saturday. We took the one-way Donan Bus "Express Onsen" at 14:10 from Otaniichi and got off at Park Hotel at 15:30, just a 2-minute walk away. If two people make a round trip, the discounted ticket from Sapporo (4 tickets) for 6,980 yen is a good deal. We arrived at Shimizuya in the drizzling rain, left our shoes in the shoe box, and checked in. We were guided to our room through a connecting corridor. The room was a spacious Japanese-Western style room on the 6th floor. It had a Japanese-style room, a Western-style room with twin beds, an entrance, and everything was spacious. However, the room was quite old and had a lot of history. There was a TV in both the Japanese-style room and the Western-style room, which felt super luxurious! For dinner, we had a room meal with a special kaiseki dinner plan from a long-established Japanese inn. We chose the 5:30 pm seating. It was mentioned that a small bottle of Japanese sake would be included for two people, but we were able to switch to other drinks. I had beer and my mother had apple juice instead. The menu included a pre-dinner drink (Shimizu sake), appetizers, sashimi, a hot pot dish, a rice dish, miso soup, pickles, and dessert. The sashimi was particularly delicious, all very fresh and fatty. The grilled Taraba crab was served hot until the end, and the corn was sweet and delicious. The service was excellent, and the attendant who took care of our room was a lovely elderly lady who was very efficient and graceful. We spent 18 hours at the inn and the total cost for two people, including two meals, drinks, bathing tax, and consumption tax, was exactly 50,000 yen. Breakfast will be continued in the next review.

On January 5, 2019, we requested breakfast starting at 8:00 am. The staff member will come around 7:30 am to set up after taking down the futon. They work efficiently and consider the guests even while working. The breakfast menu is the same for all guests, but you can choose grilled fish. We had grilled hokke and salmon as we requested. The rice and side dishes were delicious, especially the tarako (cod roe) was not too salty and very tasty. The rice is from Kurisawa, a neighboring town, and it's called Zensei rice. It's so delicious because it's high-quality rice. We shared the grilled fish and it was perfectly seasoned. All the dishes and accompaniments were excellent. Even though I usually don't eat breakfast, I felt the importance of eating properly. We only stayed one night but we are already fans of this ryokan. My wife already said she wants to stay here again next year. It's a great place to relax. Younger people might not appreciate it as much, they might prefer a buffet. Overall, we had a very satisfying stay. Thank you for the delicious meal!

January 4, 2019 - First visit and stay for dinner Today's accommodation is a place I stayed at once before, during a company trip when I was still single. Staying at such a high-class ryokan like this was something I never did in my private life when I was younger. The food left a strong impression on me back then. The ryokan is called "Miyado Shimizuya" and it is quite a long-established and old building in Noboribetsu Onsen, which adds to its charm. The traditional atmosphere, like taking off your shoes right at the entrance, is really nice. We were shown to our room and a maid served us tea. The traditional charm of the place was really something. There is no dining hall here, so dinner and breakfast are served in the room. This style of onsen ryokan is quite rare in Hokkaido. Dinner was served promptly at 5:30 pm. The maid's movements were precise and efficient, which was a joy to watch. The dinner course was called "Couple's Feast" and it looked beautiful from the start. The portion seemed just right. We toasted with a sake before starting our meal. The dishes were not only visually appealing but also of high quality. Each dish was prepared with skill and care, making a huge difference in taste. The salt koji miso-grilled chicken in foil was particularly outstanding, with the flavors of the vegetables and meat blending perfectly. The sashimi was also of excellent quality. Enjoying such dishes with sake was a delight. The hot pot dish was delicate and delicious. Even the scallop rice dish at the end showcased a wonderful sense of taste. Although I couldn't eat it, having dessert included added to the overall satisfaction. The ryokan's bath also had a nice atmosphere and the hot spring water was thick and rich. Despite the slightly old-fashioned room, it was clean and well-maintained. My wife, who usually doesn't like old things, was impressed by the cleanliness. We are now looking forward to breakfast tomorrow. We had a wonderful and memorable dining experience. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

During the Taisho era, or wait, have we gone back too far? This story actually takes place in the Heisei era before the Reiwa era. Welcome to Noboribetsu Onsen, where even the demons can be seen from afar. As we approached the first demon to be defeated, it became clear that it was huge and scary. We decided to just drive through and continue with our check-in and meals. But there was still some time before we could eat, so we decided to go demon-slaying in the meantime. Despite not having any kibidango, we were followed by a group of people who seemed eager to join in the demon-slaying. As we made our way to Jigokudani, we encountered demons that seemed incredibly strong, wielding large metal rods. They were tough opponents indeed. Suddenly, we were attacked by Nezuko and her companions, who seemed more interested in hunting their prey (me) than in slaying the demons. We ended up taking turns carrying Nezuko and the others, making it impossible to focus on demon-slaying. As we walked around Jigokudani, we could hear the sounds of various breathing techniques, such as insect breathing, flower breathing, wind breathing, rock breathing, and snake breathing. Unlike in "Demon Slayer," the demons here seemed to be persistent and would not disappear even after being defeated. They were quite formidable. Next time we visit Noboribetsu, we will definitely find a way to incorporate elements of "Demon Slayer" into our activities. As we continued to edit our reviews, we checked into the Shimizuya Ryokan, where we stayed in a traditional tatami room and enjoyed room service for both dinner and breakfast. We even slept on futons. Before dinner, we snacked on a bear-shaped manju and had a beer, but we had to stop ourselves from eating too much to save room for the evening meal. After our encounter with the demons, we found ourselves quite hungry and eagerly awaited the dinner service. We indulged in a delicious meal, starting with appetizers and moving on to a variety of dishes that were all very tasty. The atmosphere was enhanced by the sake we enjoyed with our meal. However, we were so focused on eating and drinking that we didn't have time to take notes on the dishes. If you're interested, you can refer to the menu photos for more details. Although we were tempted to upgrade our meal with more drinks, the large group we were with made it difficult to do so. After dinner, we decided to explore the town at night, using Google Maps to find a place where we could continue drinking. Despite the fact that it was already autumn, there was a noticeable increase in the number of insects, including ladybugs, both inside and outside the inn. Some might find it hard to ignore these creatures. Our time in Noboribetsu was filled with demon-slaying, bear-defeating, and insect-battling adventures, just like a certain Demon Slayer Corps. Stay tuned for the next episode, where the Demon Slayer Corps boards an infinite train to Noboribetsu for more demon-slaying adventures. The end. Overall rating: 3.7 Taste: 3.6 Service: 3.5 Atmosphere: 3.9 Value for money: 3.3 Drinks: 3.3 Address: 174 Noboribetsu Onsencho, Noboribetsu, Hokkaido Shimizuya Ryokan ☆☆☆ Next episode preview ☆☆☆ As the Demon Slayer Corps boards the infinite train to Noboribetsu for demon-slaying, what adventures await them? Stay tuned. Reference: Demon Slayer manga.

First time at Noboribetsu Onsen. Familiar with the lyrics of "Ii Yu da na♪" by The Drifters. Approached by car from New Chitose Airport. The distance is almost the same as Sapporo, so the access is more convenient than expected. When you exit Noboribetsu Higashi IC, a red demon welcomes you. Called "Yukijin," he lives in Jigokudani and purifies people's misfortunes. Upon arrival, checked into the room. Spacious Japanese-style room and a splendid twin bedroom. It's a shame to stay alone. Looking out the window, surrounded by small mountains, already feeling like a Hokkaido resort. After finishing some business following lunch, it's finally time for a banquet. The menu is very elaborate as always. The review lists the various dishes served. The next morning, after a delicious breakfast, leisurely went to the hot springs. The milky white water is very hot spring-like. Enjoyed the hot spring while slowly walking as the bottom is not visible. Some facilities seem to be aging in places not easily visible. Nonetheless, the hospitality of the employees felt like a refreshing agent at Noboribetsu Onsen's inn.

December, first Sunday. Morning of the second day of staying at "Miyado Shimizuya".《Wake-up・Morning bath》As usual, mornings after staying in a place like this are early. Still half asleep, I head straight to the bathhouse. Unlike last night, there is a change in the gender of bathers this morning. Hmm, whether it's night or morning, the hot spring water here is still good. It feels like the water seeps into every corner of my body, giving me the energy for the day. Stepping outside to the open-air bath, the color of the water under the sunlight is truly a signature of Noboribetsu. The appearance, smell, feel on the skin, all of it is to my liking. It's truly a luxurious moment from the morning.《Breakfast》After enjoying a long bath, it's time for breakfast. Since it's a room service, I relax until the meal is ready, letting my body rest after the bath. Soon enough, the staff arrives to prepare breakfast. The meal is simple, typical of a traditional hot spring inn. I prefer this kind of simple breakfast. The lineup includes options like pickled plums, seaweed, salmon, and scrambled eggs, which is more than enough for me. The breakfast is slightly different for men and women, with variations in side dishes like grilled fish and vegetables. I appreciate the consideration for my preferences like no sweet potato in my meal and including natto instead. This traditional Japanese breakfast is just perfect. Dessert is served to complete the meal. Thank you for the feast.《Check-out》It's a bit sad to leave. If time and money allowed, I would stay for another 2-3 days. The area around here is lively with a bustling shopping street in the hot spring town and many tourist attractions, so I'm sure I wouldn't get bored even with an extended stay. It's a shame to see many hot spring towns struggling with deserted souvenir shops. It's important for the community to work together to keep the area vibrant, as it becomes a memorable part of the travel experience. I hope Noboribetsu continues to thrive. With a reluctant feeling, I check out and start my journey back home. I would love to visit again, and this concludes the 2017 "Impromptu Hot Spring Therapy Series" at "Miyado Shimizuya".
