■A rice ball specialty store that recently opened near Shinsaibashi Station. This is a sister store of the popular "Onigiri Gorichan" in Nakazakicho, where you can enjoy rice balls with plenty of fillings. The interior has a counter seat in a U-shape, allowing you to see the process of making rice balls and enjoy them freshly made. There are a variety of rice balls available, from classic ones to unique ones like curry and shrimp mayo. You can also add extra ingredients or double the filling, making it satisfying for those with a big appetite. The miso soup is free for refills, which is a nice bonus.
■Order (including tax)
- Rice ball with soy sauce-marinated egg yolk and minced meat: 550 yen
A trendy rice ball with "soy sauce-marinated egg yolk," a must-try filling. The rice, cooked with Niigata Koshihikari rice, has a sweet taste, and the rich egg yolk and minced meat make it appetizing! I also tried turning it into free dashi tea pickles halfway through. The hot dashi soup made from bonito flakes and kelp has a gentle flavor.
- Rice ball with salmon flakes and salmon roe: 700 yen
The most popular item, the parent and child filling of salmon. The crunchy texture of salmon flakes and the rich taste of salmon can be enjoyed. I realized later that I should have turned this rice ball into dashi tea pickles.
- Rice ball with clams: 350 yen
I also wanted to try a light filling, so I chose clams. The combination of clam umami, seaweed flavor, and ginger seasoning was excellent. The staff kindly explained the options when I was deciding which rice ball to order, and their cheerful greetings made the dining experience pleasant. I'm curious about the other fillings, so I would like to visit again!

The staff were friendly and the onigiri was delicious. I ordered the squid mentaiko and plain salted onigiri. The rice was tasty, so even the simple salted onigiri was delicious! The squid mentaiko was a little spicy and tasty!

Just visited a newly opened rice ball specialty shop. Even though it was only 11:15 am on a weekday, there was already a line. More customers kept coming in. It seemed like the operation was a bit chaotic, as there were empty seats but customers were not being seated promptly. However, the staff were very friendly and energetic, saying "Welcome" and "Thank you" with enthusiasm. Despite the operational issues, the positive attitude of the staff made up for it. As for the rice balls, they were delicious! The portions were generous and the flavors were excellent. It was my first time visiting a rice ball specialty shop, and I was very satisfied. ☺️

In the Edo period, the currency was rice. There may have been a conversation like "Wow, Lord A, a handsome daimyo with a stipend of 1000 koku, is so cool." The lunch of such a daimyo was onigiri, two salted onigiri. The amount of rice in one onigiri was one gou. Being able to eat this was a sign of wealth. The side dish was about two pieces of pickled daikon wrapped in bamboo skin. There was a new onigiri restaurant in Shinsaibashi called Onigiri Gorichan, a branch of a popular shop in Nakatsu. There was a line at the store, and one reason might be that it had just opened and the service was slow. Water was self-serve. Since it was my first time there and I didn't know what was delicious, I ordered the top three toppings. Miso soup was 200 yen with free refills. After a while, the popular onigiri top three were brought out. The visuals looked delicious, with each one seeming to contain about one gou of rice. First, the third place: negitoro with fish roe soy sauce, for 500 yen. There was plenty of filling on top of the seaweed and inside the onigiri. Second place: egg yolk soy sauce with minced meat, for 550 yen. The visual looked quite delicious. The egg yolk and minced meat were a perfect match. And the prestigious first place: dried fish flakes with salmon, for 700 yen. A classic menu item with plenty of dried fish flakes and salmon. With the combination of Koshihikari rice, salmon, and dried fish flakes, happiness spread in the mouth. A onigiri restaurant that seemed to be there but wasn't. If the staff at the restaurant become more accustomed to their tasks, the wait time might decrease. Onigiri, which has been engraved in the DNA of Japanese people since the Edo period, may be a truly powerful menu item.

I went to a popular onigiri shop in Naka-Zakai-cho that recently opened in Shinsaibashi. I ordered the sujiko + sake, egg yolk soy sauce-marinated + minced meat, and miso soup. Since it just opened yesterday, there weren't many people in line yet, but it looks like it will soon become very crowded. The tofu miso soup is all-you-can-eat. The onigiri took a little while to be served since there was only one person making them and they are still getting used to it. The onigiri arrived! It was big and fluffy, with toppings on top, so you can enjoy the filling from the first bite. There was plenty of filling inside, so every bite was delicious. You can choose the main filling + topping, extra filling, and extra rice. Today I had the crunchy sujiko and salmon, a must-try combination, and the egg yolk soy sauce-marinated, which is also a favorite. There are many other options on the menu, so the choices are endless. You can also have free ochazuke, so you can change the flavor at the end. It was delicious.

The best onigiri shop in Osaka! They have a wide variety of onigiri that are visually appealing. The fillings are plentiful and delicious. The miso soup has a gentle flavor that complements the onigiri well. You can also turn your leftovers into ochazuke for free, which is easy to eat. The service was great too, so I will definitely go back!

In 2023, the new store development diary, Part 180: Tokyo. The onigiri specialty store "Bongo" in Otsuka, Tokyo, is a popular place, but there are other stores that simply imitate this onigiri, apart from the branch stores and independent stores of the alumni of this store. It's easy to imitate because it's just onigiri. In Osaka, a store called "Onigiri Gorichan" opened on April 3rd this year, which is similar to "Bongo". I wrote about it here. And already, the second store opened on September 1st, "Onigiri Gorichan Namba Store" in Shinsaibashi, Osaka. Even though it's called Namba store, the location of the store is definitely in the northern part of Shinsaibashi. Prices have gone up. You can only choose between the basic shape with additional toppings or a larger size. You can't order "more rice with additional ingredients". I ordered the salmon with additional toppings for 400 yen and the grilled mackerel with additional toppings for 500 yen. On the opening day, there was a strange staffing arrangement, with essentially only one person making onigiri, but there were many other staff members. It's very noisy, like a rowdy izakaya. If you don't mind that kind of atmosphere, it's fine, but I found it unbearable. Maybe it's because it was right after opening, but I hope this situation improves. "Tonkatsu Onigiri Chiyomatsu" in Shinsaibashi, Osaka, has the biggest tonkatsu onigiri in Japan.

Giant rice balls with plenty of fillings! I visited the famous rice ball shop from Nakazakicho in Shinsaibashi and it was so satisfying! The 180g rice ball had a lot of filling options to choose from and it was a great experience. If you want to avoid the lines, go around 4 pm or consider ordering for takeout. I tried the sujiko and sake rice ball for ¥700, and the umeboshi and shirasu rice ball for ¥400. They also have delicious miso soup for ¥300. Follow my account for more delicious food recommendations in Osaka! Visit the Onigiri Gori-chan Namba store at Minamisenba 3-5-25 Fuji Building Minamisenba 1F, open daily from 11:00 to 20:00. No regular holidays.

Order: Mentaiko Mayo Cream Cheese 400 yen, Saba Buta Kimchi 500 yen, Tamago Yolk Niku Soboro 550 yen, Oshinko Mix 250 yen, Miso Soup 200 yen - Free refills! - The Saba Buta Kimchi was surprisingly delicious, the combination of mackerel and pork with kimchi was amazing and good for the body! The portion sizes are generous, and you'll be satisfied with just one. A popular onigiri shop from Nakazakicho has opened its second store in Namba. The customer service is excellent and the onigiri made with Niigata Koshihikari rice is a must-try. The Namba store will definitely become popular too.

I went to a popular onigiri shop. The onigiri are big. I had a hard time choosing the filling, but the salmon and tendon onigiri was really delicious. The pickled radish and tuna were also good. They had dashi and green onions, so I could also make it like ochazuke.

Ordered menu: sujiko + sake 700 yen, beef tendon + raw egg soy sauce marinated 550 yen, eel + cream cheese 700 yen, miso soup with seaweed 300 yen, pickles mix 250 yen. Located a 3-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station on the Osaka Metro, this onigiri shop is a new branch of Onigiri Gori-chan in Nakazakicho. The interior has a counter seat that surrounds the kitchen. There are a variety of options, allowing customers to choose toppings, double the base ingredients, or select the size of the onigiri. Ordered sujiko sake, beef tendon raw egg soy sauce marinated, and eel cream cheese. The rice is slightly firm when cooked. Made with Koshihikari rice from Niigata Prefecture, it has a strong sweetness and a sticky texture. The onigiri is generously filled with ingredients, not just on top but throughout the inside. Among the three, the eel cream cheese was the best match! The miso soup comes with tofu for refills. The pickles are simple but go well with the onigiri. To finish, add free green onions, seaweed, pour broth, and make ochazuke. After eating three onigiri, I was quite full. Thank you for the meal.
