I purchased some sweets at an event. I got black bean daifuku, persimmon daifuku, kusa mochi, and Kyoto rich matcha jelly. The red bean paste was from Hokkaido and was slightly sweet and thick. The matcha jelly had a hint of bamboo leaf fragrance and the matcha flavor was not as strong as I expected. The white rice cakes were chewy and I liked them. The persimmon daifuku had a sweet white bean paste but lacked the persimmon flavor. Overall, as a fan of Japanese sweets, I would buy the black bean daifuku and kusa mochi again. I also want to try warabi mochi and mitarashi dango next time.

They were selling warabi mochi at a limited-time shop in Otsuka Atre. Other items included kusa mochi (with tsubuan and koshian), black bean daifuku (with tsubuan), salt daifuku (with koshian), hojicha jelly, black syrup dango, mitarashi dango, and fu mochi. I chose the kusa mochi with tsubuan and the black bean daifuku with tsubuan. I often choose tsubuan when given the option between tsubuan and koshian. The kusa mochi with tsubuan has a delicious mugwort flavor. The black bean daifuku is just delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Limited time only at Shibuya Scramble Square! When you think of Kyoto, you just have to buy it, right? Kusa mochi with whole red bean paste - a refined and not too sweet filling, wrapped in fragrant kusa mochi skin! It was delicious! The wheat gluten steamed bun was a bit sweet, but the kusa mochi wins! lol

I exhibited at Hankyu Umeda and tried three types of kashiwa mochi: koshi-an, tsubuan, and miso-an. The miso-an had a subtle miso flavor, not too strong, with a solid sweet bean paste taste, and the mochi was slightly soft and delicious. The koshi-an and tsubuan mochi had a chewy and elastic texture that I liked. I definitely want to visit the main store as well. ◎

I visited this place right near Arashiyama Station. I had the "Warabi Mochi Matcha" for takeout. It is a big, brown warabi mochi that is soft and chewy. The warabi mochi itself is sweet, so when you sprinkle the included matcha powder on top, the sweetness and bitterness balance out perfectly.

I bought two pieces each of salted bean daifuku and grass dumplings (with smooth red bean paste) on my way back from the New Year's sale outing. It was the perfect timing as I was craving red bean paste. I tried the grass dumplings as soon as I got home. The texture of the mochi was just right, not too firm or too soft, allowing me to enjoy the chewiness. The red bean paste was mildly sweet, which I thought was just perfect. As for the salted bean daifuku, I felt that it could have been a bit saltier, but I liked the slightly firm texture of the beans. It added a nice contrast to the softness of the mochi.

Tonight's dessert, I decided to buy something to bring home. Near the shop, I saw a few people carrying "take-out" treats in pudding cups sized containers. I purchased the "specially made warabi mochi" (1180 yen). It had a unique texture that I had never experienced before. It was lightly sweet and fluffy. It was delicious! Such a luxurious dessert♪

I wanted to know the ingredients, so I asked for explanations about three types of warabi mochi. The staff at the store was kind even though they were busy. I decided on a special warabi mochi that does not contain Mizuame. It came with sugar-free Kinako powder. The smoothness of the warabi mochi, without the gritty weight of sugar, is enhanced by the gentle softness of the Kinako powder, making them a perfect match.

At a temporary shop in the local station building, I bought some mochi made with wheat gluten skin. I had high expectations because I had previously tried the black sugar warabi mochi from this shop and it was amazingly delicious. This time, I bought a pack of 5 pieces. This was only my second time trying mochi made with wheat gluten. The first time was in Wakayama at a famous shop, and it was so delicious that I couldn't forget the taste. However, the mochi I tried this time was just okay. I was expecting a firmer texture and more chewiness from the wheat gluten, but it was similar to regular yomogi mochi. If they're going to use wheat gluten, I would have preferred to taste more of the umami from the gluten extracted from wheat flour. Next time, I think I'll go back to the warabi mochi. Thank you for the meal.

Located a 10-12 minute walk from Saga Arashiyama Station is the popular traditional Japanese confectionery shop, Kyoto Sagano Takejyoan Main Store. Specializing in warabi mochi, this shop offers not only take-out options but also mini cups for eating on the go. You can choose between a smooth and sticky warabi mochi or a more traditional chewy version, allowing you to enjoy your preferred texture. I purchased the popular menu item, kinako warabi mochi, which is a luxurious sweet of chewy warabi mochi generously coated with kinako powder. Surprisingly not too sweet, it is light and easy to eat, especially refreshing when chilled. Perfect for picking up as a souvenir during a stroll in Arashiyama. Bon appétit!

At the Kobe Hankyu B1 event, Kyō Sagano Takejiroan was set up as a vendor. I bought one of their souvenirs. They had kashiwamochi with sweet bean paste, coarse bean paste, and miso bean paste available. I purchased:
- Kashiwamochi with sweet bean paste x2 for 173 yen each
- Coarse bean paste x2 for 173 yen each
They also had Kyoto-style rich matcha jelly for 398 yen each x2. The kashiwamochi had a chewy skin and a not-too-sweet filling, making it easy to eat and delicious! The event runs until May 10th!

・Takejyoan (including tax 885 yen) - The chumaki (rice dumplings) 3 pieces (excluding tax 660 yen) are incredibly smooth. They have a great texture on the tongue and a subtle bamboo flavor with a hint of sweetness. The simplicity is taken to the extreme, making it delicious! You can eat it without getting tired of it! Kashiwa mochi with sweet bean paste (excluding tax 160 yen) - The mochi is chewy yet smooth. The sweet bean paste has no off-flavors, it's moist and smooth. The balance between the mochi and the sweet bean paste is good, making it incredibly delicious overall!

I found these on the web, one for eating on the go, warabi mochi, and the other for takeout, special matcha-flavored warabi mochi. Hmm, they were just okay in terms of taste! Eating on the go is fun, though! Priceless!!!

After visiting Tenryu-ji Temple, we went to the mochi shop where my daughter wanted to try warabi mochi. We decided to get the warabi mochi in a cup for eating on the go. We sat on a bench outside the shop and enjoyed the mochi, which was soft and delicious. Next time, I want to try the fresh warabi mochi too.

I purchased some bean daifuku. The bean daifuku here is small and easy to eat, with a chewy texture and a refined sweetness from the black beans. The rich sweetness of the red bean paste complements it well, making it delicious. The chewy texture is the best part. It's a dish that makes you want to eat it again. It was so delicious that I ended up ordering some bracken rice cakes as well.
