Just by looking at it, the "Temari Sushi" is sparkling and glamorous. It's not easy to casually enjoy it for lunch, but I found a shop called TEMARIYA Minamihonmachi that serves "Temari Onigiri". These bite-sized small "Temari Onigiri" cost between 50-70 yen each, with around 10 varieties available daily. The shop has a showcase at the entrance like a traditional Japanese sweets shop, and there are counter seats at the back where you can eat in. The prices are as follows:
- Standard: 50 yen for Salt (recommended by the shop! Daily changing rice variety), 60 yen for Plum, Kombu, Edamame, Corn, Ohagi, Kinako, 70 yen for Salmon, Spicy Cod Roe, Chicken Soboro
- Seasonal and daily specials (60-100 yen): Conger eel, Wakame seaweed, Sea bream rice, Chestnut rice, Stir-fried dishes, Pilaf dishes, etc.
- Set items (contents cannot be chosen): 6 pieces for 350 yen (equivalent to 370-390 yen), 8 pieces for 450 yen (equivalent to 490-520 yen)
I made a reservation and visited the shop around 7 pm on a weekday. I used a coupon this time, so I got my favorite 8 varieties for 450 yen reduced to 270 yen. The flavors I got were Ume, Spicy Cod Roe (2), Chicken Soboro, Tuna and Paprika Pilaf (daily special), Kinako Ohagi (2), Ohagi. Each Temari Onigiri was small but packed with different flavors, and I surprisingly felt full after trying them all. The shop also offers 100 yen daily soup and 50-90 yen Oden as side dishes. At night, they have a bar where all drinks are 300 yen, serving homemade appetizers and snacks. I'm curious about the dashi tea pickles and fried rice made with onigiri. Rice lovers and onigiri enthusiasts should definitely give it a try!
