I have known and loved a certain okonomiyaki place for its cost-performance ratio and taste for a long time. It seems like it's not a place that regular tourists would visit, but I have been going there whenever I have business trips to Osaka for about 6 years now. Despite being only ¥100, it has plenty of pork in it and is definitely cheaper than making it yourself. The chef who earnestly cooks the okonomiyaki must be a god in Nishinari. It was my first time inviting someone to go there, but my friend was also impressed by the cheap price and delicious taste.

I heard that there is a 100 yen okonomiyaki shop in Nishinari, operating from the evening onwards, with no name. It is registered on Tabelog as "Okonomiyaki Shop," and I finally encountered it yesterday. The shop is a small orange-colored stall with a man cooking alone. The price is still 100 yen, even though the cost of ingredients like flour, eggs, and oil has gone up. The okonomiyaki contains cabbage, tenkasu, pork, and egg, topped with plenty of bonito flakes and sauce. It is about 15cm in diameter and cooked in the traditional way with pork laid on the griddle before adding the batter. The pork turns crispy, which is nice. The shop provides new disposable chopsticks and trays. It's a mystery how they can keep the price so low. I also passed by the "Don Peri Uncle" (the man on a mama-chari bike saying "Don Peri is here") on my way from Tsurumibashi Shotengai to this shop. I'm enjoying my holiday without going anywhere. Pork and egg okonomiyaki for 100 yen.

After visiting the Tsurumihashi shopping street and walking back towards Nishinari Police Station, I noticed a okonomiyaki restaurant that had caught my attention before was now open for business. I bought a regular okonomiyaki for 100 yen and ate it on the spot. It contained pork and egg, and was served in a plastic container. The taste was average, but the impact of the price and atmosphere was quite significant. They are open for business from around evening time.

I came to the cheapest okonomiyaki restaurant in Osaka. The pork and egg okonomiyaki is only 100 yen. It is located on a street just north of the Haginoyama shopping street. There is always a line because of this. The owner is constantly cooking without a break. There are many okonomiyaki lined up on the hot plate. When you hand over a 100 yen coin, it is put in a styrofoam container and handed to you. Since I eat it right away, there is no packaging. There are benches next to the food stall where you can eat. Some people buy canned beer from a nearby vending machine and eat it with the okonomiyaki. Some people eat the freshly cooked okonomiyaki in the park across the street. The park is surrounded by iron sashes, but it is a comfortable place to eat. Despite being a 100 yen okonomiyaki, it contains eggs and pork. The sweetness of the cabbage is also well felt. The sauce and bonito flakes are generously sprinkled on top. 2-10 Haginoyama, Nishinari-ku, Osaka City, Hiitsu Arisu 1F.

Title: "Spring 2023 Youth 18 Ticket in Osaka Day 2, Oh, They're Still Open! Gotta Have Some Okonomiyaki Then" On the second day of the spring 2023 youth 18 ticket trip in Osaka, after finishing some errands and checking into the hotel, it was time to go grocery shopping for dinner. On the way to the Tamade supermarket in Hanazonocho, I noticed that the okonomiyaki restaurant was still open! And they still had the 100 yen option. I had to go in! I ordered one piece from the owner. When asked if I wanted to eat it there or take it away, I decided to eat it on the spot because it would get cold if I took it home. Since the round chairs were being used by a group of young customers, I relied on the light from the vending machine and ate standing up. I would rate it a perfect 10 out of 10. Okonomiyaki (100 yen): 10 out of 10! The okonomiyaki had pork and egg in it. The egg seemed to blend in with the batter, so it was hard to tell if it was actually there. The batter was a bit sticky, with a subtle texture, but it was topped with sauce and bonito flakes. The cabbage had a strong texture. Surprisingly, there were two slices of pork belly! One slice was about 6 cm long, 4 cm wide, and about 2 mm thick, small and thin, but it had the delicious flavor of pork belly. All this for just 100 yen! An impressive bargain price. By the way, I recently saw 100 yen cabbage pancakes being sold near Nishinari Police Station. That also caught my interest. After eating one piece of okonomiyaki, I headed to the Tamade supermarket. There are about four stores in this area, and the Hanazonocho store is open 24 hours a day. (March 11, 2023)

Title "2022 Railway Day Commemorative Ticket Journey #6, this time it was really delicious, half-sized okonomiyaki" On the second day of the railway day commemorative ticket journey with my friend K on October 2022, we enjoyed the Night ZOO at Tennoji Zoo in the evening, and on our way to Nishinari Kitchen U-chan, we made a stop. We decided to have a light meal at U-chan to save some money. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:43 PM on Saturday, with about 3 other customers already seated at the outdoor tables. There were also quite a few customers getting takeout, and the place seemed to have a steady stream of customers coming in. The staff was the same elderly gentleman as last time. This time, I decided to try the cheapest menu item, the pork and egg okonomiyaki for 100 yen. Here is my rating out of 10 points: Pork and Egg Okonomiyaki (100 yen): 10/10! Last time, I had this dish after drinking at U-chan, so I was quite full and a bit drunk, and couldn't really appreciate it. This time, I had only had one strong canned drink 1.5 hours prior, so I was sober. When I tried it this time, I noticed that the pork was actually in there and it was delicious! The dough part may feel a bit powdery because there is more dough than ingredients, but the sauce and bonito flakes give it the authentic okonomiyaki flavor. It had cabbage, egg, and pork (likely pork belly), and the texture and umami of the pork really stood out. The size was about half to one-third of a regular okonomiyaki, making it a perfect snack. Many customers were buying two or three to take home. It's similar to cabbage yakisoba, but the dough is thicker and closer to okonomiyaki. It was delicious! Next time, I want to try the large pancake or pork okonomiyaki during a less busy time. ~Afterwards~ There is an arcade right next to the restaurant, and at the end of the arcade is the izakaya Nishinari Kitchen U-chan. It was great last time, but how was it this time? Let's go inside. (2022.10.15)

Title: "Summer 2022 Youth with 18 Tickets to Osaka #6, Probably the Cheapest Okonomiyaki in Japan" It's the evening of the second day of my trip to Osaka in September 2022. We were drinking at Nishinari Kitchen U-chan just a little while ago. We left U-chan's place around 7:20 PM and found a place right in the alley off the arcade called "Okonomiyaki-ya." There's Yume-san nearby, but it seemed closed that day, maybe even out of business. The atmosphere in this area is quite shady, to be honest. The whole town feels sketchy, so it might be a bit intimidating for tourists. Still, the safety has improved a lot over the years, and it's much easier to walk around now. The menu is simple. Okonomiyaki (with pork and egg) for 100 yen, plus 50 yen for an extra egg topping. There are also options like Obanyaki and Buta Hirayaki, but they cost a bit more. This time, my friend Mr. Saki had the 100 yen okonomiyaki, and I added an egg for 150 yen. Since there was no line, we got our food in about a minute. But then, more and more customers started coming in, confirming its popularity. It's only 100 yen, so it's no surprise. I'd give it a 10 out of 10 for value. Okonomiyaki with pork and egg, plus extra egg topping for 150 yen: 7 points. The okonomiyaki is quite thick and satisfying. It's a bit powdery, but with plenty of bonito flakes on top, it's definitely a great deal and probably the cheapest in Japan. The amount of sauce and mayonnaise is a bit on the low side, so I thought it might be tastier to take it home and add more sauce and mayo from my own kitchen. Whenever I stay in Osaka, I always stay in this area, Kamigasaki. So, I'll definitely be able to come back on my next trip to Osaka and maybe take some to enjoy with a beer from Tamade in my hotel room. Later on, we decided to check out a shop run by a beautiful Chinese lady inside the Hagi no Chaya Arcade. It's a rare find in this area without karaoke, so it seems like a quiet place to drink. It's a bit unsettling that the name is the same as my mother's though... (2022.9.3)

The old men standing in line are grumbling because the guy in front ordered 5, making them wait. The man in front of him gives up halfway through. This is the deep world of Osaka's okonomiyaki stalls. The dish is packed with eggs and pork, and costs only ¥100.

If you have normal manners, it is customary to show gratitude and use polite language when purchasing here, even if it's just receiving a small gift of pocket money. However, a young person in their 30s bought only three 100 yen okonomiyaki and said to the store clerk, who was around 60 years old, "It looks tough, but hang in there!" It would be better to show respect and gratitude by using the correct attitude, such as paying 1,000 yen or simply thanking the store for the good deal. Prices at the restaurant: Okonomiyaki (tax included) 100 yen, Okonomiyaki with egg (tax included) 150 yen, Large pancake with extra meat and egg (tax included) 300 yen, Pork pancake (tax included) 300 yen. #Nishinari #NishinariAleRice #NishinariAleTown #AilinDistrict #OkonomiyakiShop #100YenOkonomiyaki #The pack is small so I fold it in half, but there is a larger size available.

There are chairs next to the store where you can eat, but there is a faint smell of ammonia so I cannot recommend it. You can get two eggs for 300 yen to fill your stomach.

I haven't been here in a while and there was no line, so I couldn't resist even though I was already full haha. It's only 100 yen per piece, which is quite cheap! The sauce is a bit on the light side, but you can also try the freshly made ones here, so give it a try. If you bring a canned beer, it's more than enough! Cheers! 🍻

Title "Osaka Touring in November 2022 Part 3, Cup Sake and 100 Yen Okonomiyaki" For dinner on the first day of the Osaka Touring in November 2022, we had a set meal at Nanba Kyushokujo. We took a train from Nankai Nanba Station to Shin-Imamiya Station, and bought cup sake at the Tamade Shin-Imamiya store next to Shin-Imamiya Station. If there was an okonomiyaki shop, we planned to buy okonomiyaki to go and enjoy the night in Nishinari with cup sake and okonomiyaki! We arrived at the store at 7:56 pm on Friday and it was open. There were about 3 customers, 2 for takeout and 1 eating at the eat-in corner (outside there were long tables and chairs). We ordered 2 okonomiyaki from the same man as last time. The 1100 yen okonomiyaki was 200 yen for 2. About 7 pre-made okonomiyaki were on the edge of the hot plate, and he took 2 to the center, poured sauce and sprinkled bonito flakes to complete them! He folded one in half, put it on a plastic plate, wrapped it in paper, and secured it with a rubber band. His movements were like a craftsman! It was a quick movement. It took about 1 minute to receive the order. We received the pack in exchange for cash. We walked to the hotel holding it. It was only about 200 meters. After checking in, we immediately took it to the room. We took off our jackets, turned on the TV, and started drinking right away. Since there was no low table, we ate it on the tatami. We rate it 10 out of 10. Okonomiyaki (2 for 200 yen): 10 out of 10! The size is small for okonomiyaki. It's about the size of a cabbage yakisoba. It contains egg and meat. There are also cabbage, tempura-like ingredients, and maybe small chewy parts like squid. Maybe the core of the cabbage? The dough is slightly chewy, but overall it's not bad. There is always one piece of meat in one piece. It's small, but it's amazing that there is meat in a 100 yen okonomiyaki. Two pieces in one pack. I feel like I should have bought another pack. It's so familiar. It might be nice to have more okonomiyaki. As I started to feel a bit tipsy, I thought it was nice and enjoyed the night in Nishinari. Later, I took a bath, bought a 30 yen carbonated drink (from a major manufacturer) at the vending machine in front of the hotel, watched TV, and went to bed. The next day, I plan to go out early and have morning dango soup at a dango soup shop if it's open. (2022.11.18)

I had been curious about this place for a while, but since it's only open in the evening, I had to come during the day. I was prepared for the long wait, but surprisingly, I ended up being able to buy my food quickly. The okonomiyaki was only 100 yen each, but they were delicious with plenty of pork in them. I bought 5 in total and enjoyed them at home with extra sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, and seaweed. I will definitely come back for more as a snack in the future.
