A small diner located between Rausu and Notoro Peninsula. The diner is run by an elderly man. They offer a variety of lunch options, from seafood bowls to grilled fish sets, but the recommended choice is the chef's special set meal. I ordered the chef's special set meal, which came with a selection of sashimi, grilled fish, and other dishes. The portion was quite generous, and it was definitely a great recommendation. All this for 1300 yen. Compared to the prices in touristy Rausu, it felt reasonably priced. Since it's a small shop, it's best to call ahead before visiting.

Around noon, I passed through Shiretoko Rausu and decided to have lunch at Shiretoko Shokudo, which is perfect for experiencing Hokkaido. Despite high ratings on food review websites, the restaurant had few reviews which affected its overall score. However, I discovered this small restaurant and decided to give it a try. The place looked like an orange hut and was easy to miss if not for the reviews. I parked my bike in the adjacent parking lot and entered the restaurant where a cyclist was waiting. The owner was still cleaning up after the previous customers, so there was a short wait. Eventually, we were able to enter, and the owner mentioned that they usually close by 12:30 pm. The menu was an omakase set for ¥1300, and the food was served promptly. The meal included grilled salmon, sashimi of tuna, salmon, scallop, and octopus, as well as side dishes like squid salted guts, simmered dish, and salad. Despite the area not having much fish available, the dishes were delicious. We had a pleasant meal and chatted with the owner, who shared stories about his family and the young cyclist who was on a journey to cycle around Japan. It was a heartwarming experience, and I hope the cyclist has a safe and enriching journey. I look forward to visiting this restaurant again in the future.

We decided to have lunch at "Mineya" just before Rausu. We ordered the Chef's Special Set Meal for 1300 yen and the Chef's Special Seafood Bowl for 1600 yen. The Chef's Special Set Meal for 1300 yen was a surprise with a plate full of salmon, tuna, squid, octopus sashimi, along with salad, small dishes, and soup. It was a great value for money. Everything was very delicious. The "Seafood Bowl" was piled high with octopus, squid, yellowtail, tuna, flounder fin, and botan shrimp sashimi, enough to make you full with just the sashimi. Grilled fish came with grilled silver salmon. This also came with salad, small dishes, and soup, and everything was very delicious. It seems that the shop is run by the owner, who used to be a fisherman. We hope this shop will continue for a long time.

This year, first time. As always, the seafood bowl was delicious, and I was happy with the thoughtfulness of the owner and his wife. I will definitely go eat more this year. Thank you for the meal.

During a drive in Shiretoko, I searched on Tabelog for where to have lunch and narrowed it down to the Michi-no-Eki in Rausu or this place. I was able to make a reservation over the phone, so I chose this place. I arrived about 20 minutes earlier than planned, but I was kindly shown to my seat. It's a small restaurant, but they seem to get quite a few reservation calls. An elderly couple seems to be running the place. My family of four came, so we decided to order different dishes. I had the "Chef's Special Set", my wife had the "Chef's Seafood Bowl", my daughter had the "Grilled Fish Set", and my son had the "Sashimi Set". The sets come with a variety of dishes. There's salad and simmered dish included as well. The Chef's Special Set had grilled fish and sashimi as the main dishes. When asked which was better between silver salmon and cherry salmon for the Grilled Fish Set, I chose silver salmon. All the dishes had generous portions and were great value for money. The grilled fish and sashimi of flounder were particularly delicious. There was also a veranda. The hospitality of the husband and wife was excellent. Finally, the husband asked, "Are you full?" and of course, I answered, "Yes". Thank you for the meal.

On the last day of the consecutive holidays, I headed to Rausu. The weather was bad and there were fewer tourists, so I thought it would be a good time to visit. On the way, I passed by a pachinko parlor in Nakashibetsu that had a long line of people waiting outside (people really love their pachinko, huh). When I arrived in Rausu, I found a small restaurant open and decided to give it a try. It was 1:10 PM, with 2 groups of 4 customers and 1 group of 2 customers (reservation). They all seemed like tourists who had been enjoying their time in Eastern Hokkaido. The owner was busy cooking, so I took a look at the menu while waiting. I usually go for the chef's choice set meal, but this time I decided to try something new and ordered the pork sauté set meal. After a short wait, the owner brought out a pork bowl instead of what I ordered. I didn't mind and told him it was fine. The pork bowl turned out to be made with Shiretoko pork, a special kind of pork raised in Shiretoko with a focus on natural feeding and health. It was thick, tender, and delicious, served with a perfect sauce. The owner asked if I had enough rice, and I always leave the restaurant full and satisfied. In conclusion, everything at this restaurant is delicious. The owner, a 77-year-old man, travels to Nakashibetsu every week for medical treatment and enjoys running the restaurant at his own pace. He is happy to see many customers coming in, but I hope he takes care of himself and continues to run the restaurant with his wife. I look forward to visiting again. Thank you for the meal.

On a regular afternoon, heading north towards Rausu Town. I had listed some unvisited restaurants in Rausu Town for lunch, but some of them were not open, causing me some anxiety. However, finally I saw a sign indicating that this particular restaurant was open! I hurried up the mountain roads, trying not to spill the water in my cup, and finally arrived at the parking lot of this restaurant. It was 12:40 PM, with 4 groups of customers (6 people in total) already inside and no one waiting outside. The restaurant had 4 counter seats and 2 raised tatami seats, and the master seemed quite busy. After being asked to wait for a moment, I looked at the menu on the wall. When the master finally had a moment, I placed my order. Since the master mentioned that the saury was expensive at the moment, I decided to go with the grilled fish set menu starting from 1000 yen. The master kept asking if I was not feeling cold, but I was fine (though the highest temperature in Rausu that day was 7 degrees). The mistress kindly prepared tea for me in a pitcher. The background music changed from Showa era songs to radio. The food arrived in about 10 minutes, looking beautiful as always. The grilled fish was silver halibut. When I asked the master about it, he said it was originally 1200 yen but he would charge me 1000 yen. The fish was perfectly grilled with amazing flavor and texture. When eaten with grated radish, it was like paradise in my mouth. The salted squid had a hint of mountain wasabi as an accent, which added to the delicious taste. The miso soup with large clams was also flavorful. All the dishes, including the salad, were consistently delicious. The master offered me a second helping of rice, but I had work in the afternoon so I politely declined. The restaurant started its business in 2017 on May 7th, with a new regular holiday every Wednesday due to the master's medical appointments. I hope to visit again soon. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I visited a restaurant in Rausu on a Monday afternoon in November 2016. I was initially worried because it was the restaurant's regular day off, but luckily I saw a sign outside indicating that they were open. I quickly parked my car and went inside, where I found out that they were open because there was no snow yet. I ordered the pork set meal without really looking at the menu, and to my surprise, it turned out to be a shabu-shabu set meal. The meal was delicious and filling, and the owners were very attentive and kind. I left feeling satisfied and grateful for the unexpected dining experience. In September 2016, I visited the same restaurant for the first time. Located in a remote area of Rausu, the restaurant was a hidden gem. The cozy atmosphere, the selection of delicious dishes, and the friendly owners made it a memorable dining experience. I was impressed by the quality and quantity of the food, and I left with a desire to visit again in the future.

When driving on the national highway, you will come across a small orange building. Inside, there are 6 counter seats and 2 tables in a raised area for 4 people each. The menu includes not only seafood but also steak, miso cutlet, curry rice, and more. I ordered the chef's special set meal and was surprised when 10 dishes were served. It included rice (with free refills), clam miso soup, grilled salmon, assorted sashimi, simmered dish, pickles, salad, stir-fried garlic chives, salted fish guts, and one more dish that I can't remember right now. As you can see, it was a huge amount of food! I was extremely satisfied and my favorite was the grilled fish. I visited again and tried the steak, which was incredibly tender and delicious!

Rausu Omakase Set Meal - Mineya, a Dining Place by the Harbor On the way from Shibetsu to Rausu, the drive overlooking the sea is truly refreshing. The weather is nice, and you can see the Kuril Islands on the other side clearly. And... wait, was there a restaurant in this area? I can't seem to remember passing by one. It's bothering me! So, I decide to make a U-turn and stop by to check it out. The place is Rausu, a fishing town, just around the corner. The sign says "Harbor Dining Place," so it must be a seafood-focused restaurant. My expectations rise as I walk in. I am greeted by the owner and his wife, and the interior has a counter seat on the left and a raised seating area on the right. Two customers are already seated at the counter. One of them finishes his meal and bids farewell to the owner before leaving for work. The other customer seems to have just arrived. The owner serves me a Katsudon, but my eyes catch the blackboard with the "Omakase Set Meal" written on it. That must be the specialty here! I ask the owner about it, and he explains that it includes a variety of seafood and meat dishes, quite a generous portion. So, I decide to try it out. And what arrives at my table is a feast of seafood delights. As I enjoy my meal, I learn that this restaurant just opened this year. No wonder I don't remember it! The owner is an avid fisherman who enjoys various fishing activities and even offers fishing trips and bait arrangements upon request. He is also a certified tourist guide in Shibetsu town, full of energy and passion. Originally from Honshu, he moved here for fishing and worked in local hotels and inns before opening this restaurant after retirement. A fascinating individual with a diverse background, I couldn't help but get engrossed in our conversation. And the restaurant's top recommendation is the A4 grade special Wagyu beef from Ikeda. Surprised? Well, that's the charm of this place! Why not visit Mineya, the new dining spot in Rausu by the harbor, and see for yourself. The number of seats is limited, so there may be a wait to get in. They often close after 3pm. However, the freshness of the seafood is top-notch. You can also get seconds of rice. You can leave feeling satisfied and full. Highly recommended.
