I had lunch with a colleague near my workplace, and we visited this restaurant at their request. It's a famous tonkatsu restaurant that I remember seeing on TV commercials since I was a child. Although I had been there a few times with my parents when I was young, this was my first visit as an adult. We arrived around 12 o'clock, and the restaurant was almost full. We managed to find a table for four people. Looking at the menu, I noticed that everything was priced at over 1000 yen. I was a bit hesitant about spending that much for lunch, but then I found the lunch specials at the back of the menu. They looked quite appetizing. I ordered the special lunch set, while my companion ordered the Hire Katsu set. Within 5 minutes, our lunches arrived. The set included two pieces of Hire Katsu, one piece of Minced Katsu, and one Ebi Fry. It came with a generous serving of cabbage, tartar sauce, lemon, Gomaae (sesame spinach), pickles, rice, and miso soup. I started with the Hire Katsu, trying it first with a bit of salt and mustard. The flavor of the meat was rich and delicious. It was better than I expected. Then I tried it with the sauce, which was also very tasty. The side dishes like Gomaae and miso soup were also delicious. I finished my rice quickly and asked for a refill. The Minced Katsu was lighter than I thought, but it tasted great with the sauce. Personally, I prefer a richer flavor, but this one was well-balanced and would appeal to many people. The Ebi Fry was served with tartar sauce, and despite being a bit small, it had a crispy coating and juicy shrimp inside. The tartar sauce complemented the sweetness of the shrimp perfectly. My companion was enjoying their meal as well. I wanted to get more rice, but I felt a bit embarrassed in front of my companion, so I refrained. However, I thought that each katsu and fry dish was delicious. The restaurant is located in the basement of Takashimaya Sakai Higashi store, and since it was a weekday, there were mostly women and elderly customers. Although the prices were not too high, they were not cheap either, so I don't think I can visit regularly for lunch. However, I realized the importance of taking the time to enjoy a delicious katsu meal occasionally. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.
